Thank You, Bill Parcells

+1.

Personally, I'm glas Parcells is gone. He is overrated as a coach, IMO. His record without Belichick on his staff speaks for itself. I also think his eye for talent is overrated.

Having said that, I think Parcells greatest quality is that he changes cultures. He demands respect from players. And he has this aura about him where players would run through walls for him.

I'm happy that he came when he did. The team desperately needed it. But I also took solace in that Seattle game as I knew it meant the end of the Parcells era.

+2 Parcells was the guy who wanted Peyton here.

Parcell's was a fiery coach and is currently responsible for about 30% if not more of our starting roster today right? I've been seeing more and more clips of him getting pissed off and going at people it's kinda cool. Didn't he grab Spears by the face mask in practice one time? Anyways, the New Jersey con man was a good one but eventually like all others, the game evolved and passed him by...

Yeah, funny you point that out. The tough guy act didn't work for him. He thought he was Mr. Yankee bad-***. And yeah, he's responsible for a lot of what's on our roster. I'd be interested if someone could give me a breakdown of just who. I want to think it's more than 30%, but it's at least that much. However, I'd love a see a statistical, historical analysis of this.

New Jersey con man is a bit harsh, but I can see where you're coming from. He was a stubborn coach and thought that being stubborn meant being great.

That's not how the game works today. I don't like the way the younger generation changes about a lot of things, but you have to be savvy enough to know that if you want to be successful working with players that you have to adapt.

He was just so conservative. Every game came down to the last 2 minutes of the game with him as our coach. You live like that in today's NFL and you will lose your fair share of games. That playoff game against the Seahawks Parcells conservative approach cost us a chance to put away the Seahawks in my opinion.
3rd and short with us right on the fringe of field goal range and he takes a timeout. We were ahead at the time I believe...He runs a dive play to Barber and Seattle sells out on a run blitz and we lose 3 yards...I thought that was the turning point in that game.
We were on the road it was a playoff game...we should have "hit the gorilla in the mouth" as Jimmy Johnson use to say but instead we played not to lose and that was a problem I had with Parcells approach towards the end.

Good post.

I'm still longing for the return of Bill.

Maybe not as the head coach, but I wish he was still a part of this organization.

That's interesting. Equally as interesting, is that I don't think you're trolling either.

Surprising is the word that comes to mind.

BP was just about burned out when he came here. He was great in 2003 getting that collection to 10 wins. But that was the last year he was a top coach. Coaching the way he does you cannot last too long. He made it as long as he did by taking a year or so off after each team. By the way no coach in the history of the NFL took four separate teams from total losers to the playoffs. He will undoubtedly be a first ballot HOF guy. So idiots calling him over rated just show how stupid they are.

I just realized that it would be pretty stupid of me to say that I don't really care if I took the time to read what CowboyMcCoy wrote and then posted my own opinion about it. But yet...why should I care about the impact Parcells had on this team? I'm only about the present...I couldn't care any less about the past and how it shaped/molded this team to prepare them for a Super Bowl run now.

Hmmm...I just re-read that last statement I wrote and realized that I was being stupid again. Nah, 'stupid' doesn't sound quite right, especially with all the effort I'm putting into this post. I think 'idiot' works better. Yea, but it should have more adjectives to let others know how ill I think of my own post. How 'bout 'blithering idiot'? Yea, that sounds better but it's still missing something.

Wait! Now I know...(ahem)...For me to have taken the time to read CowboyMcCoy's post and then agree with the others about not caring about it and forgetting about how it shaped our team by writing my own post, would make me a stupid, blithering idiot.

Yea, that's the ticket.

Reminds me alot of 4th & 1 vs Minnesota. Having our way with the Minny defense at the time...definitely on the fringe of FG range...and Wade opts for the FG try. Big miss...we could have 'punched the gorilla in the mouth' their also. For me, that was the turning point in the Minnesota loss...so we're still too conservative.

Either scenario, you make it you're a genius, miss it and you're too conservative for 'today's NFL' as all the youngens like to say.

And I hope all of our coaches play not to lose. Playing to lose just won't cut.

Sometimes a post is so well thought out, and so well worded, so well put that you just can't argue with it.

Best job of post padding I've seen in a while though.

brian broaddus was in the room and parcells wanted merriman. Stephen and jerry pulled bill aside and explain how he would never get to camp on time and would always be a problem on the business side because of his agents the poston brothers.

according to broaddus bill then wanted to go with ware like most did.

Why this keeps getting screwed up I dont know,
but just to be clear, He wanted spears sure.to run the 3-4 in 05 we needed an end but parcells wanted to take merriman at 11.

and you cant blame bill for wanting spears at 20, he had great success with another end from lsu once upon a time named leonard marshall. When you have an end in a 2 gap 3-4 who is among the league leaders in sacks a couple of years like marshall was I am pretty sure you would want another one!!!

Thank-you Theebs............This should be flippin' stickied!

I love everything tha.tbill did....except for one thing, and thats running off A.Bryant.Now i know you dont disrespect the coach, fine him sit him for a few games but dont release they guy at the time Bryant was one of very few things going for the cowboys. When he got cut i knew it would come back on us. i know Bryant hasnt exactly done anything special, but look who hes playing with???GARBAGE!! No doubt in my mind Romo to Bryant woulda been one of the best QB to WR combos in the league. I still hate that decision to this day but all in all Bill Parcells made a world of difference here.

Of course you realize that I was defending you in my own awkward way. We've had differences in the past but I agree completely with your initial post on this subject.

Except the part about Wade.

Perhaps but Bryant had a lot of growing up to do. If you noticed, he didn't really excel until he went to Tampa (given that it was probably his last chance to prove himself in the league). It amazes me how these so-called great players (with attitudes) don't start shining until you start messing with their grocery money.

Funny how that seems to work itself out. ;)
