game starts tomorrow ....that missed FG on T-Giving is coming back to rip our throats out....we should have been 8-3 - instead we're 7-5, fighting for our lives against the hottest Offense in Football...

Make no mistake - we lose tomorrow and we're out - OUT! May as well play Romo the rest of the way. You can't lose 3 in a row in Nov&Dec and expect to make the post season...

8-3 to 7-5 - I'm sick to my stomach....thanx Bill - you choking stiff.
You really shouldn't have such a "bad attitude" :D

Inconclusive. It's fuzzy, but it looks like Bledsoe's already committed to his throw on the other side of the field. The Raiders appear to be playing zone. There is a LB occupying the area the receiver just came from and a DB that appears to be baiting Bledsoe into throwing a pic to be returned 90 yards for a TD. I'd be more interested to see a still from before Bledsoe had already started to throw. Maybe the receiver was open. Maybe he wasn't.

When you hold a kicker responsible for winning, losing, your status in the playoffs, being a Super Bowl team or not....you're already admitting the inevitable...that you're not a team to realistically contend.

jack has a fine point. don't let kickers decide games. score td's.kickers miss fg's. it happens to all of them. score td's and then all you have to worry about is whether they can kick an extra point. being as cortez is gone i think we can handle the extra points

We would be 10-2 or at least 9-3 right now if we would have had a consistent FG kicker all season. 3 makeable FGs missed from 41, 21, & 34 yards cost us the games vs the Commanders, Seahawks, and Broncos.
As usual, right on the :money:

You don't want to underestimate the importance of special teams, though. The Pats won 2 Superbowls because AV is clutch. The Chiefs lost a playoff game to the Colts after our kicker missed 3 FGs under 40 yards. Dante Hall has bailed us out multiple times over the years.
It's nice to be able to pound it into the endzone, but kicking can absolutely win or lose games.

If Cundiff made the fg, and if our defense held on to that 3 point lead, since they couldn't hold onto a tie in overtime long enough to even get 1 possession, wouldn't all that make us 8-4, only one game better? The G-men still kicked our butts, and Cundiff had little to do with that.

How about video of the play?

2MB file.. need DIVX codec to view it.

4th and 4 against the Raiders. Witten WAS open but Bledsoe had his target set before the ball was even snapped. I'm not trying to blame Bledsoe for anything by point that out.. I was just pointing out SOMETHING that could have been done differently that would have changed our season. The original thread maker puts ALL blame on the kicker when I think that is quite unfair.. because there have been a lot of mistakes and "what ifs" throughout the season. I was merely disagreeing with your statement that "its hard to argue his points".

I watched it several times. It looked like good defense to me. The pocket was collapsing. Bledsoe wouldn't have had time to go through his progressions. I notice he was sacked 4 times that game. I assume pressure on Bledsoe was a recurring theme.
Converting a 4th and 5 1/2 from the opponent's 6 is a pretty tall task.
His points were all valid. They may not have been all-inclusive in terms of reasons a team lost the game, but they all appear to be large contributing factors.

Witten was open, but from Drew's foot pointed toward Terry you can see he would have had to turn his head 90 degrees just to see if Witten might be open. If Witten weren't open, by the time Drew looked, Terry would have been out of bounds or turning the other way. Besides, Drew had game winning, last minute TDs in 2 of the 3 games prior to Oakland (WA being the other game, where he would have had a 100+ rating if the D held the 13 point lead). You can't expect 3 GW TDs in a 4 game span. If it doesn't happen, it's not because Drew sucks. It's just the law of averages.

If Cundiff had won 2 of the 3 games prior to Denver with clutch, last minute FGs, I don't think we'd still be holding a grudge.

Dude-look at the game clock. Even if Bledsoe had found #82, Moss and co still had googles of time to get the winning score-and all they needed was a FG to boot.
