The 2015 draft

  • Yeah Byron jones is an average player that's losing snaps to Kavon Frazier - B
  • Randy Gregory - failed to show up - F
  • Chaz Green - passing but barely - D
  • Ryan Russell - has a 42.4 PFF grade ( yeah I take it w grain of salt ) - F
  • Mark Nacho - has 6 tackles in three years - F
  • Laurence Gibson - hasn't played one NFL game - F
  • Swaim - B straight up good find by the cowboys
If those players were college classes, the cowboys would be failing and probably kicked outta the university

I know Will McClay gets almost knighted status on here but this one hurts. Check out 2015 draft for Dallas:

Byron Jones
Randy Gregory
Chaz Green
Damien Wilson
Ryan Russell
Mark Nzeocha
Laurence Gibson
Geoff Swaim

This is a huge indictment of current philosophy of not spending in FA and addressing all needs in draft. That sounds good in theory but you have to actually go out and draft well.

Dam, talk about a whiff.

Yea, if a team is going to build through the draft they actually have to be able to draft good players that turn into good starters. You cant whiff on an entire draft class and expect to contend for anything.

I'm not opposed to trading picks for players but the Bene trade doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Impossible to know because he never played on defense.

He is only 26 and has played about 1500 snaps in the NFL including 14 starts. He played over half of Carolina's snaps on defense for 3 straight years.

His chance of contributing was probably higher than a late round pick.

It's a good sign that he was the 5th CB on the roster. There have been years were he probably would have been a starter for the Cowboys (Remember Nate Jones or Lance Frazier).

Hated pretty much every pick that year except Wilson, unfortunately, he hasn't amounted to much. Swaim might be the best of the bunch, at least he excels at something (run blocking).

I was ok with the Jones pick knowing we needed secondary help. The Gregory pick made a lot of sense at the time with the needs at DE and potential value offered late in the 2nd round. The Chaz Green pick was a bit puzzling, but thought it was better than taking another TE in the first few rounds. Unfortunately the Cowboys didn't end up with any high end players through the first few seasons, but still hold out hope that Jones, Gregory, and Wilson can be the positive contributors from this draft.

This has to be Jerry because we know  that McClay and Garrett make great draft picks

I don't know the in depth details of what the Cowboys thinking was behind this trade. I know the trade was conditional. I am not sure, but weren't the contingencies for the pick met? If so our pick is gone so hopefully he is worth the pick.

I can't figure out why we would give up a pick for a guy like him and never have him see the field in a meaningful way, and lose the pick. Either play him or cut him and save the pick. At least that's what seems logical, in a vacuum. I know there is probably more to it than that. There has to be.

It's not a banner draft, but some draft classes are going to be better than others. If we got this result every year, there is no doubt it would be bad news for us.

We were also drafting at the bottom of the round that year, so that's a factor too.

I was a little odd but if you think a player can help the team in games in the present tense, then you always want to do that if possible.

Look at baseball trades. Teams give up a lot for players that will be free agents after the season because the team want to win now.

They did a condition trade like this once or twice where they cut the player before the condition was met and immediately re-signed him. Levar Edwards might have been one of the players.

I think they would have held onto Carroll if not for Benwikere.

Benwikere needs to be on Cowboys' 46-man gameday roster four times (or more) in 2017 for the Bengals to get the Cowboys’ sixth round pick in 2019.

On a note, if your last name is: Benwikere would you name your son Bene?

Most importantly, no RB drafted to replace DeMarco. Going with Joseph Randle was a huge fail. We still would have been terrible once Romo got hurt but at least that would have freed up the Top-10 pick we'd have in 2016 on another premium position of need.

Yeah I wanted Tevin Coleman

Had Collins not been railroaded and Jones not given him a mean steak dinner, that would have been a lousy draft.
BJones has more than lived up to the 27th pick
Same with LCollins
And the book isn't written on RGregory.... we still have 3 years of control

So 2 out of 3 with a longshot for 3 out of 3

2/3 of all draft picks are straight up busts........ 17% never play a down for the team that drafted them
10% are average
12% are good
7% are great
1% are legendary

you need to adjust your scales and grade on a curve

Word has it they wanted Gurley and were surprised when he went as high as he did to the Rams.

How so?

Landon Collins was taken five picks later. And he is a real safety.

Same with LCollins
Collins was gravy. And big fat greasy yummy gravy.

That was a free agent signing. Not a draft pick.

Control? Control of what? A flake that is still struggling? What evidence is there of Gregory getting his life back together?
