The 2015 draft

It doesn't matter -- Free Agency -- if we don't have a franchise QB. Not saying Dak is or isn't, just something to consider.

FA is viable (needed) when you are close, and filling a few positions solidifies the squad into a contender. If we are still too far away (re: QB), even with some nice FA pickups, it will all be for naught.

There are NO draft geniuses. Im sorry but we do hit on a ton of picks as well as miss on our share.

Im sure someone brighter and more informed than myself like @percyhoward could probably provide statistical evidence to show we are still one of the top drafting teams in the league.

Although I absolutely agree our dollar store FA shopping needs to stop. Either sign one or two real players or save our cap.

everything I have read is Dallas will do eveything thru draft and will not be active in FA. Only way I see that working (when they whiff in draft) is doing what they did with getting Irving from KC practice squad.

This year's FA class isn't very good. Who would you sign? Last year's was way better. Our luck that we finally might have some cap room but the FA group is weak.

I'd make a run at Jimmy Graham.

tbh, even teams like NE lay an egg in the draft on occasion. But their philosophy is unmatched. Roll into the draft with 11, 12, 13 or more picks. With that many, even if most are lower rounds, you're bound to get a hit or two somewhere.

And you get that many picks by not trading yours, taking from others, and ruthless churning of the roster.

But the Cowboys don't care about any of that.

Obviously.

No matter who is setting the board, you still have incompetent people making the final call. Yes sometime they get lucky but that's all they have is luck to work with.

NE addresses things in FA.

At the right price maybe, but I think hes declining. Lots of Tds and a great redzone threat but Im not sure what else he can do anymore. (Admittedly TDs sound nice, couldve used a couple last week.)

The Gregory pick sucks the most because the entire league knew to stay the hell away.

there was no evaluation needed and contract was limited. In other words, it was impossible for Dallas to screw it up.

Id give the FO props for thier recruiting job at least, the bottom line is we got him and that has to be worth something.

Most importantly, no RB drafted to replace DeMarco. Going with Joseph Randle was a huge fail. We still would have been terrible once Romo got hurt but at least that would have freed up the Top-10 pick we'd have in 2016 on another premium position of need.

I'm amazed how many Cowboys fans don't appreciate Ezekiel Elliott.

NE traded a **** load of picks. They've also had a few stolen from Goodell.

They are smart in FA and when it's time to dump their own players. But their true genius lies behind the coaching of Belichick. They've drafted a bevy of QBs during Brady's tenure and finally hit on one and traded him away (not Belichick's idea; Kraft's orders).

I think we traded one pick this year, for Benwikere (was he on the roster for four games or whatever amount it was supposed to be?)

not giving up on this draft just yet

Byron Jones - IMO, misused as a safety...if he gets more free safety work and CB work next season, he cound pan out
Randy Gregory - druggie, clean him up and he could be very good
Chaz Green - ugh, never liked this pick and I bet Dak doesn't either (see: Atlanta game)
Damien Wilson - has played a lot, not an all-pro, but not horrible
Ryan Russell - who?
Mark Nzeocha - burger-flipper?
Laurence Gibson - need fries with that?
Geoff Swaim - has seen playing time

Throw in Collins and this class could turn out to be ok

Really how you got a player isn't all that relevant as long as you acquired a player who can play. Collins counts. It doesn't matter how we got him.

Well we picked up La’el Collins as an UDFA the same week and signed David Irving a few months later off the Chiefs practice squad. So while we didn’t draft them, those are two nice rookies that we acquired in 2015.

Yes. They do. But my post still stands on its merit. I didn't really speak to your supposition about FA.

Just the draft portion of it.

that's was entire premise of my post. You have to be active in FA if your not crushing it each draft.
