The 3-3-1-4. How will it work?

The 33-14 defense sounds like the average score of Cowboys games in December, but seriously, how will this defense work? I know #31 will be the "1" but wouldn't this defense require superior linebackers to make it work? They will have to cover a lot of ground.

I think roy woudl be the 4th LB and have to read and react to the run, it would put him closer to the line, but also leave a lot of room for mess ups if he bites on play action.

So next season when we're not running it and Parcells is running the same defense, I fully expect tons of threads whining about the 3-3-1-4 and how we haven't been using it.

Its basically a 3-3-5 but Roy would get to move around and be the X factor like Troy Polamalu a lot more.

Also he can play up a lot too and either show blitz or drop back into a zone.

Making Roy a lot more of a disruptive player just by design.

That's great, we can't get pressure on the QB using the 3 DL and a LB, so now we are getting rid of one of the LBs, becasue our over rated star SS can't cover. We will suck at defending the run and rushing the passer.

Genius! Kind of like the 2 TE offense that was going to revolutionize football, and we gave up on it after a few games.

We should get rid of Parcells, get on with the future now instead of waiting one more year.

This defense would allow the Guards to get to easily to the next level because the ends would get blocked by the tackles and the NT would likely be jammed by the center and one guard allowing the FB and the other guard to easily pick up LB's or DB's

Roy is not gonna be a linebacker, People. Nor should he be. His coverage abilities are no worse then any other STRONG SAFETY in the NFL.


Let's worry about our pass rush before we worry about anything else.

You do realize that EVERYTHING you're talking about in your post is the EXACT same situation as if running just a plain old 3-4 right?
