:lmao2: You do realize that EVERYTHING you're talking about in your post is the EXACT same situation as if running just a plain old 3-4 right?

Not really. 3-4 base defense works much differently than a 3-3-1-4 defense which is a common passing down scheme.

IF your talking about running a 3 down lineman and 3 down LB's with a Roy williams playing in the box but in a 3-4 formation, then you might as well call Roy a LB. But in a 3-3-1-4 Roy won't be a LB because of the allignment of the Dline and LB's.

Whatever happened to having 2 big monsters up front at tackle, then having some guys on both ends who can terrorize your QB? You don't need a gimmick offense or defense when you draft talent and not pass over players to prove you're a War Room God.

I guarantee you, if we had a dominating pass rusher opposite Ware, all of this talk would go out the window.

Look at teams like Philly and NewYork. They continuously bring in pass rushers all the time, I wonder why?

so Greg Ellis, Bobby Carpenter, Jay Ratliff and Jason Hatcher aren't pass-rushers?

I'll put it this way. I didn't see any pressure on the QB consistantly this year, and they are on our team. They may be pass rushers, but they're not top notch.

Yes they are. And Mario Edwards, Kareem Larrimore, Lance Frazier and Dwayne Goodrich were CB's too. ;)

so the young guys can't improve? gotcha

I don't know what you want, you don't like what we got, yet you are blaming the coaches for trying

You're post dealt only with you talking about how it would get abused by a good running game. Talking about how the guards would get up to the next level. And... that is something that happens in a base 3-4.

Roy is not gonna be a linebacker, People. Nor should he be. His coverage abilities are no worse then any other STRONG SAFETY in the NFL.

Let's worry about our pass rush before we worry about anything else.

Amen, Rack. A good pass rush will make an average secondary look like pro bowlers.

Greg Ellis is the only legitimate pass rusher in that group. I wouldnt call Ratliff, Hatcher and Carpenter "pass rushers" any more than I would call Larry Lacewell a "talent acquirer."

Exactly. The game is won or lost in the trenches, and right now the Cowboys are losing the trench battle.

are we sure RW can actually pick off some passes though?...how many INTs did he drop this year?...he mostly only intercepted the deep floaters...
He did lead the team in INT's w/ 5.

It ended when all these teams recently have started winning Superbowls with the 3-4.

The 33-14 defense sounds like the average score of Cowboys games in December, but seriously, how will this defense work? I know #31 will be the "1" but wouldn't this defense require superior linebackers to make it work? They will have to cover a lot of ground.
it won't work

I don't see us doing a 3-3-1-4 at all. I think we'll see or what least what I'd like to see is Roy playing closer to the line of scrimmage with the FS over the top. Newman can handle a lot of 1-1 coverage. I could also see some nickle packages where Roy plays linebacker, a 3-3-5 alignment or something like that were there are two safeties other than Roy on the field.

Explain?

We will still be doing the 3-4 just in certain situations switch to it.

If Bill does go to it he will most likely use it like Pittsburgh does when they go to theirs.

cause bill will probably be a fool and use it on short yardage or something. if we use that formation against a kc team or new england team or sd team we will get ran over. its basically a 3-3-5 but making roy an lb and adding an extra db anyways. o yeah we can't get pressure with a 5 man rush now you think a 3man will

Yeah I do.

Lebeau does it all the time in Pitt and it works well for him.

The defense creates confusion and thats something we need.
