I feel this is how it's going to. Don't know if dez or lee will be here when it works out though.

The key is before 4 years, not in 4 years. In 4 years, Dak will demand a huge contract. These next 3 seasons we get top QB play without top QB pay. If there was ever a time to restructure and load up on defensive talent it is now. It's not just Dak. In 4 years, the O line will be very expensive as well. We'll also be a year away from a Zeke decision.

Now is the time. We maintained the balling on a budget, bargain-bin free agent shopping this year, but hopefully they see the light and take advantage of this rare window of Dak playing under his rookie (4th round) deal.

These are interesting times wrapped in quizzical discussions about unknown intentions. Oh, to be a fly on the proper wall somewhere in that pristine practice palace in Frisco...

With the quarterback page almost turned over, suddenly this puppet show has turned from panicked urgency to a comfortable purr. Timelines and turnover have a whole new meaning. What exactly that is is anyone's guess.

This much we know. In four years, Dak Prescott is going to get paid handsomely if he becomes what they're banking he will. Gonna make Tony's deal look like a down payment on a used Chevy. And to make that investment, this time the roster has to arrive in unison. Lessons were learned, you've got to think, with the last franchise QB.

And so, this draft has to be real, and it has to be spectacular. Next year, too, and the one after. Money has to be carved and cleared for some ripe expensive free agents at the proper time, which they clearly don't believe in their belly is right now.

By my count, when that day arrives, only about nine of the current guys will suit up for it. Dak, Zeke, Tyron, Frederick, Martin, Jaylon, Byron, Brown, and Bailey. There'll be a couple of others that will survive, and LP will probably be long-snapping into the 22nd century, but those are the likely core.

So if 80 percent of this roster turns over by the time Dak is in his full-tilt prime, Will McClay must continue his brilliance off the radar in that broom closet they hide him in. It's not that they can't win a bunch of games until then, even play around in the playoffs, but their recent actions don't speak to that being the focused plan right now.

A big part of me is just so tickled that a plan actually exists. Duct tape and super glue didn't work while they threw darts in the dark campaign after campaign, and I grew so tiresome of it all.

So I'm willing to wait and watch and be realistic as they hatch their plans before our eyes. Stephen will pay Dak one day, but perhaps no one else. The Patriots way fascinates him, I suspect.

I won't be surprised if the draft doesn't yield a tight end or receiver in the first round. I won't surprised if they go all defense. Nothing would surprise me because I don't think they're that dug in. They want to add core plays for the future, not band-aids for right now.

I like your effort I wonder about your interpretations.
All teams that are fortunate to grab a perceived franchise QB will pay out a fortune at second contract?
Not sure about your count. This franchise has decided staying young is advisable so if a player isn't viewed as a viable
big contract player gosh, he wont be here?

What is certain is the puppet master has us by the yingyang Many are so fascinated they hate it but their lives
spin around rock throwing.

With the majority of this fan base, as long as they claim to have some sort of a plan, it will do. Actual winning need not matter, 21 years and counting.
I would like to see a plan where they can put together back to back 10 win seasons. Been twenty years since that has happened. Amazing.

Maybe you shouldn't make so many assumptions. Makes you sound like less of a clown.

You are the one calling a 1/3 page post a TLDR. If that's too-long-to-read... you win the clown of the year. I'd never try to compete with you in clownmanship skillz.

But hey...if you can some day get past twitter-length posts...maybe you can work up to things like articles, chapters...even a short book. So let me offer a little encouragement.

I don't always agree with Erod's posts but he's one of the better writers on this forum. Unlike some he actually puts in some thought and craft. Ooops. I'm writing too much for you, I suppose. We've passed your word quota for the day.

This is what I've been thinking lately too, Erod. This team is taking a more patient, thoughtful approach. Instead of madly running around trying to stick fingers in a every leak....they are being much smarter these days.

It won't get fixed fast enough for the instant-oatmeal crowd...but it's way better for sustained success.

If this is the chosen path, then this is the plan. If Romo was the QB, then this would not be the plan.

Develop for the long haul versus here and now.

I think they could do both, but if this is the decision, then let's execute the plan accordingly.

I don't believe that the plan changed with Dak.

They're taking the same approach as last year (before they even drafted Dak).

Building through the draft is the plan both for now and the future.

The Patriots rarely go big in free agency. The Cowboys 1992 Super Bowl winning team was young. Most of that core had less than 5 years of experience.

On the flip-side, the hugely expensive rosters of the Wade Phillips era and early Garrett era didn't win a ton of playoff games. Think about all of the expensive defensive players in Wade's final half season. That defense is what got him fired.

We saw many of Jerry's win-now moves over the years that failed (Joey Galloway, Roy WR Williams, etc). During that time the Patriots were generally on a slow steady pace in terms of building the roster. Even when the Patriots spent big money, it was generally limited to short term contracts like Revis being there 1 year.

Cool story bro. You don't have to compete because you already won clown of the year. Congrats, you can pick up your participation trophy.

I didn't want to read his poorly written short story, I just want to read his point so I can post my response/opinion. That's it. You can take your assumptions with you to clown college, don't forget to pick up your red nose and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

If that is too much for you to comprehend, ask your mommy for help. Little boy.

I would say if we don't appear in the Super Bowl within the next 3 years it is a serious organizational failure.

If they don't change their philosophy on acquiring defensive talent, this team won't smell the Super Bowl. Which sucks because this is a championship contending offense. Can't keep rolling out Sean Lee and 10 dudes and expect them to stop playoff caliber QBs when games matter most.

Thats the truth! Defense wins the big games.
