The absurd underrating of Tony Romo just hit a new low

To paraphrase the article below (for the lazy), Florio is figuring which teams should want Mike Vick as their QB.

He then rates every team's starting QB with one of the 3 following rankings... Better (than Vick), Comparable, or Worse (than Vick).

He gives Romo a "Comparable" ranking. As in, Vick is comparable to Tony Romo at QB.

Thirteen QBs got a "Better" ranking. So Florio believes that AT LEAST 13 starting QBs are better than Tony Romo. Among them: Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, and Matt Hasselbeck.

All better than Romo. :lmao2:

For more comparison's sake, here are the other QBs given the "comparable" rating that Romo received. Trent Edwards, Aaron Rodgers (another severely underrated QB in this article), Matt Schaub, Matt Cassel, Chad Pennington, Marc Bulger. Romo is on THIS level.

Man, it's annoying being a Cowboys fan sometimes. I embrace the hatred like Hos suggests, but wow... how do people like this have jobs opining on NFL matters? Has this ******* ever watched Romo play? Or does he just do this because he knows it'll piss off Cowboys fans?

Guess it worked on me though, huh? :laugh2:

Plenty of teams should want Vick
Posted by Mike Florio on July 20, 2009 12:06 PM ET

Our latest item for SportingNews.com makes the case for quarterback Mike Vick refusing to serve as a backup quarterback/part-time Wildcat option once he's reinstated to the NFL.

"The question for now isn't whether Vick will win a title or otherwise become the best quarterback in the game," we explain. "The question is whether he's currently one of the best 32.

"There's no reason to think he isn't, and so there simply is no reason for him to accept any other role."

To prove our point, let's compare Vick to the starting quarterbacks for every other team, and let's apply one of three labels to each guy. ("Better" means he's better than Vick, not that Vick is better than him. And you should feel free to come up with your own scale, if you think you're better than me.)

Here we go.

Arizona: Kurt Warner . . . better.

Atlanta: Matt Ryan . . . better.

Buffalo: Trent Edwards . . . comparable.

Baltimore: Joe Flacco . . . better.

Chicago: Jay Cutler . . . better.

Cleveland: Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn . . . worse.

Cincinnati: Carson Palmer . . . better.

Carolina: Jake Delhomme . . . worse.

Denver: Kyle Orton . . . worse.

Dallas: Tony Romo . . . comparable.

Detroit: Matthew Stafford/Daunte Culpepper . . . worse.

Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers . . . comparable.

Houston: Matt Schaub . . . comparable.

Indianapolis: Peyton Manning . . . better.

Jacksonville: David Garrard . . . worse.

Kansas City: Matt Cassel . . . comparable.

Miami: Chad Pennington . . . comparable.

Minnesota: Tarvaris Jackson/Sage Rosenfels . . . worse.

New England: Tom Brady . . . better.

New Orleans: Drew Brees . . . better.

New York Giants: Eli Manning . . . better.

New York Jets: Kellen Clemens/Mark Sanchez . . . worse.

Oakland: JaMarcus Russell/Jeff Garcia . . . worse.

Philadelphia: Donovan McNabb . . . better.

Pittsburgh: Ben Roethlisberger . . . better.

San Diego: Philip Rivers . . . better.

San Francisco: Shaul Hill/Alex Smith . . . worse.

Seattle: Matt Hasselbeck . . . better.

St. Louis: Marc Bulger . . . comparable.

Tampa Bay: Josh Freeman/Luke McCown/Byron Leftwich . . . worse.

Tennessee: Kerry Collins . . . worse.

Washington: Jason Campbell . . . worse.

So that's 13 starters better than Vick, seven who are comparable, and a dozen who are worse.

Of course, many more factors go into the analysis. We aren't accounting for potential or contract status or other factors that would cause teams not to pursue him.

But the bottom line is that, even with two seasons out of the game, Vick better than many guys who'll be taking snaps on a regular basis this year. Thus, once the Commissioner reinstates this specific convicted felon, there's going to be a team that ultimately will feel like it should be convicted of grand larceny.

You're right, that is completely absurd.

And isn't Florio from Philly? That might explain it.

Thats like saying a McDonalds happy meal is comparable to Filet Mignon.

Understandable if the dude is from Philly though.

Florio's ratings aren't even internally consistent.

They would be justifiable if all the quarterbacks ranked higher than Romo had won playoff games, but they haven't. What have Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler, or Carson Palmer ever accomplished that they should be ranked higher than Tony Romo?

Not one of them has a playoff win -- Jay Cutler hasn't even been to the playoffs -- and Romo dwarfs all of them statistically.

Anyone who agrees with these rankings is either a moron or an agenda-driven hack. Seriously. Florio only posted them to generate interest in his publication, and Romo was an easy target because of the visibility and popularity of the team for which he plays.

Florio can't honestly believe these rankings.

In this instance, you may wish to take an even closer look at that list:

Edwards will be throwing the ball to Owens this season and his 'grade' is 'comparable', same as Romo's. Regardless of the similar 'grade', the prevailing logic of certain fans has been that Owens automatically makes his quarterbacks better. That makes Edwards 'better' than Romo, riiiight?

How could stilltheguru disagree?

RedRaiderCowboysFan's mantra has been Roethlisberger, Manning and Rivers are all 'better' than Romo, so Romo's automatically not a good enough quarterback.

comparisons dont win games... I would think this would excite Romo fans because most athletes try to prove their critics wrong...

Start of the 95 season Troy Aikman reported to camp in the best shape ever... But then again thats Troy Aikman!

He WAS a lawyer until very recently.

PFT partnered up with NBC and now he's making so much money off the deal that he gave up his practice to be a full-time blogger dude.

Yep.

He was not too long ago considered one of the biggest jokes on the net. There were some people that toyed with him and proved that he was a fraud and practically made up stories and they were right. Although it wasn't hard to figure out when each of Florio's anonymous sources used the same verbiage and language to a tee.

And what's the penalty for it?

He's now being hooked up with one of the major American TV networks.

Wanna know why sports journalism is going down the tubes these days? Because they reward guys like Florio.

It's absurd, of course. We'll get a chance this year to see if Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco are really that good or just flash in the pan. Something tells me Matt Ryan is for real, while Joe Flacco was just driving the bus.

I think Jake Delhomme is a better quarterback than Michael Vick, too. Not a better athlete, but better at throwing the football (post Tommy John surgery, before he couldn't throw a ball 15 yards.)

Let me type this real slow so everyone gets this....

Tony needs to protect the ball better. Outside of that there are no major flaws in his game.

Only the super stupid continue to think he is not a top notch QB...and as a wise man once told me...Ignorance can be fixed but stupid is forever.
