The absurd underrating of Tony Romo just hit a new low

What's it going to be then, eh?

You can only say "wow".

Michael Vick wasn't a top echelon QB even before Puppygate, so I don't understand how many of these players (especially Romo) are "comparable" to him. Even a lot of the "worse" players aren't that either.

That's such a total joke. I think for anyone who actually WATCHES all the Cowboy's games, they clearly see just how damn good Romo is. Does he make mistakes? Of course, but who doesn't? Does he make game winning plays? Yes.

Yes, he's screwed up, but name a time when a player came through Tyree style (meaning he tossed it up and someone made a great play, or the anti-Crayton play)

whatever...I hope Cowboy's fans actually appreciate the guy. This nonsense about celebrity, etc...you'd think he was at Sky bar every week during the season. oh well...

You forgot Captain America. He has been against Romo before he played his first game.

CA would have to do a whole LOT of catching up to pull even with those two. I have to admit being somewhat surprised that neither have posted on this thread yet. Florio wrote this article practically with both of them in mind.

This is so unbelievably bad, and off, that the guy who wrote it doesn't even really deserve to be mentioned on these forums again.

On November 11, 2001, Vick made his first career start at Dallas and threw the first touchdown pass of his career on a nine-yard toss to TE Alge Crumpler in a 20–13 victory.

On January 4, 2003, Vick led the Falcons to an upset victory over the heavily favored Green Bay (Brett Favre) Packers 27–7 in the NFC wilcard playoffs, ending the Packers' undefeated playoff record at Lambeau Field.

On January 15, 2005, Vick led the Falcons to victory over the St. Louis Rams 47-17 in the NFC divisional playoffs at home. Vick had 119 yards on eight carries, while the team finished with a franchise-playoff-record 327 rushing yards.

On December 16, 2006, Vick tied a career high four touchdown passes against Dallas and eclipsed Bobby Douglass' 34-year-old record for most rushing yards in a season, finishing with 990 yards after 14 games.

Only Randall Cunningham and Steve Young have more rushing yards at the QB position than Vick. He's also first among QB's all-time in rushing yards per game, at 53.5 yards per game. Vick holds several NFL QB rushing records, including most rushing yards in one game (173), most 100-yard rushing games (7), and most rushing yards in a single season (1,039). Vick has a 2-2 playoff record, losing both games against Philthy on the road in January of 03' and 05'.

There are some less than stellar QB's who have rings that are not near as talented as some who did not get rings. I know people get tired of hearing it but truth is the truth which is Teams Win Championships not QB's

I see why the young guns (Ryan and Flacco) are highly regarded, but they are not yet better than Tony. And most certainly, Tony is better than Pennington, Bulger, Edwards and...Vick. I think Rodgers also belongs in the "better" list.

You look at anything he's ever written about the Cowboys and it's obvious he's a hater.

At least they both got there.
Would you trade Romo for Trent Dilfer in his prime?

Don't evade the question. Answer it.

Granted, but no one has more control over a game than the QB and that includes the head coach.

What if you already have a "championship caliber team" with Pro Bowlers at almost every position and still can't win a postseason game?

Do you blame the coaches...that always seems to be the next logical conclusion for most fans. Who's to say, that bad playcalling on offense or on defense isn't just the result of poor execution.

No...I like Romo and what he brings to the table as a QB. I'm just pointing out, that you don't throw a multiple playoff winning QB under the bus, especially when your QB hasn't won one yet.

until he proves to be able to PROTECT THE BALL for a full season and playoffs this is about right.

he's proven himself as a middle-of-the-pack QB over a full season.

To paraphrase the article below (for the lazy), Florio is figuring which teams should want Mike Vick as their QB.

He then rates every team's starting QB with one of the 3 following rankings... Better (than Vick), Comparable, or Worse (than Vick).

He gives Romo a "Comparable" ranking. As in, Vick is comparable to Tony Romo at QB.

Thirteen QBs got a "Better" ranking. So Florio believes that AT LEAST 13 starting QBs are better than Tony Romo. Among them: Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, and Matt Hasselbeck.

All better than Romo. :lmao2:

For more comparison's sake, here are the other QBs given the "comparable" rating that Romo received. Trent Edwards, Aaron Rodgers (another severely underrated QB in this article), Matt Schaub, Matt Cassel, Chad Pennington, Marc Bulger. Romo is on THIS level.

Man, it's annoying being a Cowboys fan sometimes. I embrace the hatred like Hos suggests, but wow... how do people like this have jobs opining on NFL matters? Has this ******* ever watched Romo play? Or does he just do this because he knows it'll piss off Cowboys fans?

Guess it worked on me though, huh? :laugh2:

Plenty of teams should want Vick
Posted by Mike Florio on July 20, 2009 12:06 PM ET

Our latest item for SportingNews.com makes the case for quarterback Mike Vick refusing to serve as a backup quarterback/part-time Wildcat option once he's reinstated to the NFL.

"The question for now isn't whether Vick will win a title or otherwise become the best quarterback in the game," we explain. "The question is whether he's currently one of the best 32.

"There's no reason to think he isn't, and so there simply is no reason for him to accept any other role."

To prove our point, let's compare Vick to the starting quarterbacks for every other team, and let's apply one of three labels to each guy. ("Better" means he's better than Vick, not that Vick is better than him. And you should feel free to come up with your own scale, if you think you're better than me.)

Here we go.

Arizona: Kurt Warner . . . better.

Atlanta: Matt Ryan . . . better.

Buffalo: Trent Edwards . . . comparable.

Baltimore: Joe Flacco . . . better.

Chicago: Jay Cutler . . . better.

Cleveland: Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn . . . worse.

Cincinnati: Carson Palmer . . . better.

Carolina: Jake Delhomme . . . worse.

Denver: Kyle Orton . . . worse.

Dallas: Tony Romo . . . comparable.

Detroit: Matthew Stafford/Daunte Culpepper . . . worse.

Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers . . . comparable.

Houston: Matt Schaub . . . comparable.

Indianapolis: Peyton Manning . . . better.

Jacksonville: David Garrard . . . worse.

Kansas City: Matt Cassel . . . comparable.

Miami: Chad Pennington . . . comparable.

Minnesota: Tarvaris Jackson/Sage Rosenfels . . . worse.

New England: Tom Brady . . . better.

New Orleans: Drew Brees . . . better.

New York Giants: Eli Manning . . . better.

New York Jets: Kellen Clemens/Mark Sanchez . . . worse.

Oakland: JaMarcus Russell/Jeff Garcia . . . worse.

Philadelphia: Donovan McNabb . . . better.

Pittsburgh: Ben Roethlisberger . . . better.

San Diego: Philip Rivers . . . better.

San Francisco: Shaul Hill/Alex Smith . . . worse.

Seattle: Matt Hasselbeck . . . better.

St. Louis: Marc Bulger . . . comparable.

Tampa Bay: Josh Freeman/Luke McCown/Byron Leftwich . . . worse.

Tennessee: Kerry Collins . . . worse.

Washington: Jason Campbell . . . worse.

So that's 13 starters better than Vick, seven who are comparable, and a dozen who are worse.

Of course, many more factors go into the analysis. We aren't accounting for potential or contract status or other factors that would cause teams not to pursue him.

But the bottom line is that, even with two seasons out of the game, Vick better than many guys who'll be taking snaps on a regular basis this year. Thus, once the Commissioner reinstates this specific convicted felon, there's going to be a team that ultimately will feel like it should be convicted of grand larceny.

That game was at Atlanta. I don't think Vick has ever played a game in Dallas.

Dallas was terrible in 2001. By the time they faced Atlanta the Cowboys were on their 4th QB of the season with Ryan Leaf. Emmitt Smith missed that game as well.

Vick stopped improving as a QB. He had very little college experience coming into the NFL. Even at that it he did not run a pro-style offense at VaTech. I knew it would take him several years to reach his full potential if he ever did. He did not. After 6 years in the league he was not a good QB. It just never clicked for him. He is a dangerous runner, but not a consistent passer. That is not a good combination for an NFL QB. Now he has missed 2 full seasons behind center.

I heard someone on ESPN radio question if he was in good enough shape to come back to the NFL. I would not question that at all. It would not take him long to get in shape to play. He is a phenomenal athlete. It just takes more than being a great athlete to truly succeed as an NFL QB.

I think he would be an improvement for some teams at the QB position. That is more an indictment of how few decent QBs exist in the NFL than it is credit to him. Dallas is not one of those teams.

Middle-of-the-pack. With a 94.7 career QB rating.

Do you even watch the NFL?

"But he's played poorly after December!"

Not as poorly as our defense.

In Romo's December/January losses dating back to 2006, the defense has allowed 28.0 points/game and 348.4 yards/game.

In 2008, those figures would've been 30th in points allowed/game and 25th in yards allowed/game. Atrocious.

But no, let's put it all on our Pro Bowl QB.
