If you look at Bryant as strickly an investment then at this point, as he heads toward declining returns, it would be very prudent to get as much as possible for him now.

I'm convinced. Most of the posters of this site are mentally incapable of understanding the game of football. Dez sucks now? He only runs outs & flys by design of OC & the OC's play calling. Not Dez's fault. However if he came out & complained about the play calling he would considered a cancer. Jason Witten would never receive this much hate. Btw Jason sucked yesterday. No one calling for him to be traded. I wonder why???? Hmmmm...
Dez or Witten didn't play well, but Witten played better. Witten is a future HOF, so your hmm is answered.

Who says I'm not relaxed? I didn't cuss you out. Just think it's not a problem to demand more from a guy that sat out because he "knew what he was worth."
Lol, the disclaimer I put had nothing to do with you. It's an inside joke I got going on with another poster mixed with some sarcasm from how much controversy this thread caused. So, absolutely nothing to do with you at all and actually no other specific poster. But sorry to rattle your feathers, I could totally see how that could be misunderstood as directed at you since I quoted what you said. So sorry about that bro, but nothing to do with you.

Witten played well? How many blocks did he miss on that caused loss of yards on the play? I'm sure you wouldn't know bc you're only a passes caught type of football fan. He did well on those te screens huh? Haha..you funny dude. Also, your hofer Witten will be surpassed by Dez this year in TDs..go figure..my hmms were answered a long time ago actually

I would absolutely entertain offers. I agree with others that I would like to see a few more games first... But there is zero doubt his production has been on the decline as of late. Denver traded Brandon Marshall in his prime and look what they just did.

I would like to see Dez succeed here, and I would like to see him catch 3 TDs a game from here on out. However, the numbers don't lie and injuries are obviously an ongoing concern. The Cowboys could get 2-3 stud WRs for what they pay Dez. There is no denying that fact. He should be producing Antonio Brown numbers for what they pay him... Consistently.

I thought if you trade him the team takes on the salary and his salary cap numbers are off the books. That's a big part of my initial thought would be if we're rebuilding with no Romo and someone offered us a #1 or #2 AND took his salary off the books then I'd do it.

Disclaimer : I love Dez, Dez is the greatest human being ever, this is just a hypothetical discussion to kill time inbetween games, Relax and take a deep breath.
No, all bonus money stays on the Cowboys cap.

Bill Walsh always said it's better to get rid of a player 1 year early than hang on to him 3 years late. That's something Big Jerry has always had a problem with is hanging on to the players he likes with oversized, cap restricting contracts. Bill Walsh let Ronnie Lott and Roger Craig walk and they were big in their 80's run. But he used that logic of better a year early than 3 years late.

Now I'm not saying trade him, again this is just hypothetical conversation, I love Dez.

Very good points. Let's take this a step further and think for a minute. How much talent could we realistically bring in for Romo and Dez's contracts? We could get a decent RT, several stud WRs, some big help on the defense. Having such a small contract on Dak... We could stock so much young defensive talent with future draft picks that it would make the Cowboys legit contenders for years.

I feel this is all possible if managed properly.

Thanks.

That sucks, so if he's in decline it'll be at least this season, next season and probably the season after that before we could move him. Unless we want to eat that 25 million of dead money. So he's basically on the team until at least 2019. See my biggest fear with Dez is he's going to have a Miles Austin type career. Miles had some nagging injuries here and there and then when he went down hill physically, he went down hill fast. Miles it was just his hamstrings. But Dez has missed games in just about every season and he's had ankle issues and feet issues and I vaguely remember something with his back. But that could have been back spasms one game. I'm worried that what were seeing is the beginning of the Miles Austin esque decline of Dez from a physical stand point and maybe a talent stand point.

I hope not, cuz I love me some Dez, but there's a little bit of concern there. I'm really anxious about this weekend. My concern will grow with each bad game he has. Hopefully my concerns will be squashed Sunday. Please be squashed on Sunday.

Exactly this is along the lines of what I was thinking. What if we made these trades and got a bunch of 1st round picks and was able to stock up on young defensive talent, we pay Dak whatever he gets for a 4th rounder, which isn't much. Then we got the offense lined up for at least 2 years and our team would be young and dynamic. Especially if Jaylon Smith recovers. The reason I singled Dez out, and the only reason, is because he's the only one I think we could get something for. No one would trade for Romo with his age and a broken back. Dez is still young enough and has time to produce in this league that someone may give up some loot for him.

But with xwalker's information about the cap (thanks for the info BTW) we couldn't trade him even in a rebuilding mode scenario until 2019 or it would be 25 million on the cap. I thought when you make a trade for a player the receiving team takes on the bonus money as well and cleans the complete contract off the books.

I need to check, but some of that 25M might be guaranteed salary (not bonus money) which would go to the new team if traded.

Noted, sir. Carry on. If the thread goes more than a good page, you stirred up a good one. Kudos.

The WR position historically peaks at age 27 and maintains roughly that production over the next 3 season before aging gracefully (not like RB btw).

So how again is Dez an "aging" player?

Also do you understand the cap?
