I don't see how you can be upset with Parcells. He left a team that was young and in good cap shape. What happen to Wade was his fault. Playing veterans who didn't produced but were still starting. That's on him.

That's not really true.
Parcells was a mixed bag as a roster builder.
He had some huge draft hits (Ware/Witten) and some notorious misses --Carpenter/Rogers et al.
He added a ton of aging vets when he took over and most of them proved awful quickly.
He tried to force a quick turn around and that pretty much failed but he did leave some very nice building blocks around along with some gaping holes.

He brought in a couple failed QBs and waited too long to give the ball to Romo.

Wade took over a VERY veteran roster lead by 30+ year old OL at 4 spots and Terrell Owens as WR1.
Wade lead us to our best 2 regular season records in 20 years but those teams were definitely declining in talent.
He obviously finished up here in a disaster of a season but as bad as that was he still finished 34-22 here and won our only playoff game in FOREVER.

Garrett has lost the same number of games with 10 fewer wins.

There was no need to "predict" anything. Just stay put and let it play out. Like good teams do.

Ratliff would have held out and not played under that contract.
Jerry has stated as much any number of times for people who aren't too busy with an agenda to read.

So Jerry tossed him 10m and guaranteed those final two seasons.
Not really bad cap mgmt.

Doing restructured to lower the cap hits every season has been the real issue.
That is why the cap hit will be 7+ mil; not the original deal.

Stephen is the one who needs to learn to manage a Current CBA cap ironically, not Jerry.

Not to nitpick but.....

I can think of FAR worse moves Jerry has made than re-sign a 30 year old Pro Bowl caliber player to a 5 year and 50 million dollar contract. I wish that was the 2nd dumbest decision Jerry has made......

You can't predict the heart and integrity of a man. He was a very good, active player who would have thrived in a 4-3 so the deal made sense at the time, especially since he was such a hard worker and vocal leader. But he gets the extension and bam! Different guy. Oh well, Ratliff has only hurt his legacy and reputation and the prospects of future players in his position. These owners are probably getting tired of these types of antics and will be much more conservative when it comes time to hand out big contracts in the future. Good job, Ratliff. And you wonder why this team has been mired in mediocrity for so long -- guys like Ratliff, put up a good front but in the end, have no heart or desire to win whatsoever.

Fixed. I don't write them here because I get an odd typing delay for some reason. I copy and paste, then I have to go back and add paragraphs because it doesn't "paste" my paragraph breaks for some reason.

I get that same stupid delay. Infuriating

I'm disappointed in how this has all turned out. We won't cut him and if he hit the open market, he won't gain much interest at all. I know details haven't been revealed but if he is doing his rehabbing out outside of the facility and is reporting when he decides, then it's clear he's the problem.

Jay Ratliff is six games into the first season of his five-year contract extension. For no apparent reason, Jerry Jones gave that to him....two years ago when he still had two years left on his previous contract.

**SNIPPED**

Well, check that. Roy Williams got $45 million from Jerry, and the Lions got a bevy of high draft picks to boot. Perhaps this is second on the list, which seems logically impossible for anyone by Jerry.

Soon, Ratliff will be sent away on IR to count his $18 million for nothing. He'll likely be cut loose on June 1st.

Don't get me started........the ripples of those two horrendous decisions are still being felt today, makes me sick!

I'll never understand why Jerry coddles the players and appears to throw money at players without seemingly any regard for the consequences. Its hard to believe this is the same guy that forced Emmitt to hold out.

In contrast it appears JJ is a complete hardass in business outside of player relations. A buddy of mine had an opportunity to do some advertising work for the Cowboys this past year but they would only pay him with limited cowboys merchandise and pre-season tickets. I wish he or whomever negotiates with players would be as shrewd .......yuck, I'll stop before a blow a gasket

Yea you aren't always going to hit. And a 5 year 40 million 18 million guaranteed contract for a player of Ratliff's caliber isn't a terrible move. It didn't work out. You couldn't predict the injury. With Barber and Roy you kind of saw their futures coming. Barber was too physical to last long in this league and Roy simply wasn't what he once was. I wasn't too upset with Barber because for what he did for us he was worth the contract. But I knew a cut was in his near future with his style of play.

While Jerry deserves criticism he's now getting some undeserved criticism for not hitting on 100% of his moves. A bit unfair.

I was down on the Barber contract because he just didn't have elite speed for a running back. In fact I would say he was in the bottom 25 percent of backs (for sure in terms of starting running backs) in the NFL. You don't pay a guy mega bucks who doesn't have the speed to take it to the house from anywhere on the field. You pay him for who he is which was a mid-tier player.

That contract? He won't play under THIS contract. It was a brain-dead move by Jerry.

Now, he'll count $10 million against the cap two years after he played his last down, and he will not play a single down under his current contract, which began this year.

Good point made about owners getting tired of these types of antics, Ocho Cinco, Haynesworth and a few others come to mind when thinking about players that could be useful to a team but no one wants to deal with the drama that comes with them.

We don't need any drama queens, so let Rat take his show on the road out of town.

Stephen seems to be the type that is less willing to kick the proverbial can down the road. He could have waited to release Ratliff and Livings but he didn't. Smith and Bryant do not need extensions until the year after next. I would rather keep our current tactic of building through the draft and resigning our own talent. Carter doesn't seem quite so problematic nowadays either.

I think people do not give Jones enough credit. We complain about bad cap management all offseason saying our hands are too tied to do anything. Then we resign Lee. At a certain point people might want to say that they don't know as much about the cap as they think they do.

SO, 2 more years of rat in salary cap. Oh goody.

Sure if you are intending to act like this current offseason isn't over and the current season isn't almost half over.

He will have all his remaining dead money accelerated into next years cap. Nothing more for this year.

I love how people frame things.

Two years after the rat is gone, the Cowobys are still paying for him. That's my frame of time.

Jay Rat should have been release with cause after his physical confrontation with JJ last year.
