It's begun...

I've been reading and seeing it in the media the past few weeks. These mediots get suckered in every offseason by the Eagles and announce they're the team to beat or winners of the offseason.

I swear this began 8-9 years ago with the signing of Nnamdi Asumougha.

What's it going to be then, eh?

If they ever win a Super Bowl, it will be bad. Very very bad.

They must never do this as the integrity of reality as we know it depends on it. They must lose. And continue to lose. It is a bonus if they do it painfully though.

You don't have to take it as an attack when people praise other team's offseasons. They've had a solid offseason and addressed the things they needed to. Who knows how good or bad they'll be until the games are played, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that they've had a good offseason. I personally think all of the teams in the NFCE had pretty solid offseasons.

I don't think it's outrageous to think they could win as many as 9 games this year.

Their schedule is tougher on paper so I say they will probably be in the 8-8 range. No CBs and their pass rush still has some questions to expect more than that. If Wentz is as good as people think, 9 wins is possible. If he scuffles, it brings 6 wins into play.

Reality is they are a better team on paper, at least offensively, than last years. Their WRs are infinitely better unless people are going to try to argue that Jeffries/Smith isn't better than Green-Beckham and Nelson Agholor.

It's always interesting to me that people get pissy when other East teams get praised for offseason moves, etc.

With the Eagles, its an annual tradition. Rosemans team building vision has always lack for substance. This offseason really hasnt been any different. Jeffery is a good signing on paper, but he is on a short term deal and they kind of guy you are scared to death to sign long term. They seem to have no real long term plan for the position

I don't think it is so much that they had a good off season, the media always, ALWAYS say they have a good off season.
But the fact is that we can have a good off season also, they yet they always, ALWAYS, say our off season sucked...you know, kind of like how it goes on here....other teams nail it, we blew it....

Actually I think it's a pretty smart way to do business, these one year deals for vets. I've been advocating the Cowboys do this to fill in holes and create some depth. This actually is new for the Eagles. They've been burned on long term deals for guys - Maxwell being one of the most recent.

For Jeffries, it's perfect. You aren't tied to a guy who has some question marks, so if he sucks or gets hurt, you aren't tied to a vet likely sliding down. They drafted two WRs in this draft and likely will draft more going forward unless Jeffries proves his worth this year.

And FWIW, last year, they weren't given rave reviews for their offseason and no one said they would be great last year. I think people just kind of make stuff up about what people have said about our rivals so we can play the old, "No respect" card.

I don't understand the Eagles love

LOL.

What love? People are saying they had a nice offseason. They did. They addressed the WR position, even if only in the short term, and they needed pass rush help and took a guy MANY here were hoping would slide to us at 28 in the draft. Then they took a change on a kid with an injury who was slated to be a Top 15 first round pick (kind of like we did last year) in the 2nd round. Then took a CB in the third that some people here were hoping the Cowboys might take in the 3rd or later. They had a decent offseason.

No one is suggesting that they are being predicted to win the NFC and challenge the Pats for the SB in 2017.

Find me one non-Philly media publication or writer that is claiming the Eagles are the team to beat in the East.

One year deals are fine when you're loading up for a championship.

When your top 3 receivers and top 2 running backs are playing on a one year deal...it's not a good deal unless you have a QB that is towards the end of his career and you're trying to gear up for one last run.

I agree with the premise of this post though. Eagles are praised every season for their offseason moves but they haven't won a playoff game since George Bush was President.

One year deals when you are building a team is also fine. Because it allows you to be competitive and still not be tied to aging vets while you add talent through the drafts. What would be dumb would be a team not ready to contend to go out and sign a vet for $100MM.

Smart thing is to build through the draft. Get players that will grow with your young QB and build chemistry instead of investing money in players that may go to the highest bidder in a season.

We resigned Williams due to this reason. We wanted Dak to have familiarity and continue to build chemistry. This will allow him to focus on improving other aspects of his game instead of focusing on building chemistry and getting the timing down with all new players.

Signing one player is good...having your entire cast of playmakers on one year deals could backfire.
