You don't think adding Chance Warmack, Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith, LeGarrette Blount, Chris Long, and drafting Derek Barnett and Sidney Jones improved their team?

Those are just names, when you put them into context it takes on a whole other meaning.

Warmack was basically a bust. He's okay, sometimes he's terrible. That's why he's only making a little over a mill. Torrey Smith is an "ok" #2, but that means Wentz is going to have to to throw it more than 4 yards. Chris Long is done. Sidney Jones won't even play this year, and could possibly never be the same player.

Jeffery has his own problems, which is why he's on a 1-year deal. Blount's been productive, but he's also a 30 year old RB (statistics aren't kind to them), and Brady makes everyone look better than they are. Derek Barnett was solid I like that pick.

Losing Barwin for Long is a step back in depth. Jeffery probably won't play the whole year but he's talented. Bennie Logan was a monster next to Cox so they got weaker there too. Their secondary outside of Malcom Jenkins is still a complete disaster.

I think they got incrementally better, all things considered. Not nearly enough as the "names" would suggest though.

I can see how someone would spin it that way. You could also spin it that Warmack adds depth to an already good O-Line. Torrey Smith and Jeffery are tremendous upgrades over the terrible WR's they fielded last year. Chris Long can be a nice veteran contributor playing limited snaps who is also a leader in the locker room. Yes Sidney Jones will not play this year, but before his injury many considered him a top 3 corner in this past draft. Blount led the league in touchdowns last year and at the very least can provide good production in short yardage situations. Barnett seems to have the ability to have an immediate impact. I always look at situations and try to determine what is the absolute worst case scenario. This is probably why we have a differing opinion.

And FWIW, their one blog Bleedinn Green Nation, often has full blinders on.

It's begun...

I've been reading and seeing it in the media the past few weeks. These mediots get suckered in every offseason by the Eagles and announce they're the team to beat or winners of the offseason.

I swear this began 8-9 years ago with the signing of Nnamdi Asumougha.
It's so annoying. All these people talking about Prescott and if he will have a sophomore slump and not one mention about Wentz. They seem to forget about all the other quarterbacks, especially the first two picks, that went before Prescott.

But then again, I guess it's hard to have a sophomore slump when your rookie year was mediocre as hell!

I don't understand the Eagles love

It's pretty simple. For whatever reason, many of the ESPN guys were former Eagles players. ESPN hotshotted the business with the entire 'everybody is a fanboy' crap and it still presides.

The rest is guys like Troy who appear to be either deathly scared of Eagles fans or trying to side up with Eagles fans and not understanding that Eagles fans will *never* like you or show one ounce of respect towards you...no matter how much praise you give the team.

A couple quibbles.

Barwin was horrible last year. Long and Barwin are a wash. And they did lose Logan but they traded for Timmy Jernigan who is probably better suited for their 4-3 defense than the 3-4 Baltimore plays. Also remember Lane Johnson was suspended for a large chunk of the season. Their OL played better when he was at RT.

They are a better team than last year, at least on paper. Whether that translates to the field, who knows.

Frankly, I think their biggest issue is the guy in the headsets, Pederson.

Giants have the best defense in the division.

The Eagles have the worst corners in the division by far.

Still like the Eagles front 7 better, but it's close.

There's a wide gap in the secondary though. So even if you give the Eagles a slight edge in the front seven (and I don't until we see guys like Barnett perform), the Giants secondary is much better. Safeties are comparable but CBs are a wide win for the Giants.

True, but Sidney Jones is good, and he'll be ready sometime this season.

Jones is a rookie and based on what's being reported up here in Philly, the rumors are that the Eagles might take the Jaylon Smith approach and just sit him for an entire year. Further, it's rare a rookie comes in and performs at a high level right from the start, not even taking into account that the CB here would be coming off a major injury.

The two positions that rookies can generally step into and play at a high level right away are running back and corner, especially in man coverage.

I heard he was supposed to be ready by October, but I can certainly see them sitting him for the season, too.

To me all the "woe is me, everybody hates the cowboys" fans here are worse than anybody who hypes the eagles. Whining and complaining about a couple of articles complementing the eagles offseason is ridiculous....and they did have a pretty good offseason.

Exactly, Wentz can't have a sophomore slump because he was so bad as a rookie. Consider how far Dak would have to slide to reach down to the Wentz level.
