While I would love to see a Deon Grant added at FS; the fact of the matter is that Watkins improved as the season progressed.

We can't hit a home run at every position. Not to mention, I'd rather put some cap room towards OL.

RG is a huge problem IMO and someone like a Steinbech would go a long ways, if he isn't too pricey. Young, athletic, and good. Combined with a resigining of Columbo and Gurode, and we have a solid group.

The other hole that desperately needs to be filled is OLB (and slide Carpenter inside to replace James). That could come via the draft. It would give us someone opposite Ware who could generate a pass rush as well as give a viable blitzing candidate at one of the ILB spots (as opposed to the "none" we had this year in Ayodele and James). Offenses would have to account for Carpenter blitzing from the middle (better than Ayodele and James)

Look at a first day CB, an OLB, and OL on day one.

Fill those holes. Get a free agent veteran QB to backup Romo. Steinbech would be ideal in free agency to start at RG. Perhaps snag a backup NT via free agency.

Nothing too sexy; but I don't think we are too far away either.

slick, the reason I dont want to spend a 1st on another rookie safety, is because I'm tired of inexperienced players goofing up back there, w/ another rookie, and no vet, Dallas won't be able to play Roy close to the LOS out of fear, they keep saying they want to, but each year we go into the season w/ an inexperienced player at FS, and can't afford to, we need a vet, and Deon Grant is not that old, and is solid in both the pass and run, for one of the best pass Ds in the league

no more rookies at FS

I agree. I dont want to suffer through another year of a guy learning on the job and spend another 1st round pick on a safety. We've been there and done that. Best Veteran Free Safety available. Whoever it is. Hamlin, Grant or Sharper.

It's ok to use FA to fill some holes...but you need to use it wisely.

No FAT CATS.

They need to find mid-level players who are in the wrong system on other teams and looking for a chance to prove themselves. New England has been incredibly effective in doing this and it's the model the 'Boys need to use.

Agreed.

Watkins will be the starter at FS come the start of next season.

I like that proposed 1st day.

On day two I could see:

A WR
A NT
Another O-lineman
A ILB

you see u can build through FA just fine........the Commanders dont just do that.....if they would just sign UFAs, they would be fine.....what they do is make stupid trades and go after RFAs that cost them precious draft picks.....that is where they get into trouble.

I think there's a good chance Watkins ends up starting there, but we need to be sure we've solved the FS problem once and for all. A veteran upgrade (in coverage) to Parish is a good idea, and listening to Jerry's comments today, sounds like it's inevitable.

I agree, though, that interior run blocking needs to improve, and that we need another pass rusher or coverage inside LBr.

I wouldn't mind seeing Grant here. I wanted Sharper quite a while back but we didn't get him, no he's not what he once was. I like Grant quite a bit but that would mostly eliminate the Watkins project because Grant isn't that old. I'm not quite ready to give up on Watkins but we definitely need more insurance.
IMO what we really need is to draft or sign a CB that can replace Henry who will move to FS. Of course, contractually we're pretty much bound to keep Henry at CB. I know Davis is a great ST player, but we are wasting him and a roster spot by playing him at FS or keeping Roy. Davis would've been a very good SS if given that fulltime IMO, but with Roy here he will never have that chance. We need to get rid of either Roy or Davis and commit the roster spot to a coverage guy. Or we need BP to bring in a real DC like Capers and let the guy run his defense rather than BP's antiquated, non-functioning versions.

At the core of the issue, is DC. Maybe it was Zimmer, maybe it was BP, maybe it was a combo....but we shouldn't need an all-pro or first round draft pick player at EVERY position on defense to have any sustained success. No team has that. Get a real DC, and our roster is good enough to fix the FS issue....JMO.

The Vikings are rumored to release Troy Williamson? I know he hasn't done anything yet, but aren't they paying him a boatload of money? Did he get caught smoking marijuana or something? If he is clean and gets cut, I would love for Dallas to sign him and let him get tutored by Terry Glenn. He could eventually replace him when Glenn retires.

The more we over look these 2 areas, the more we'll keep complaining about Romo making horrible scrambling fumbles and can't run, don't have time to throw, Roy can't cover, no pressure on the QB.

Both sides of our line need help and this year should be dedicated to it, no matter if we like it or not, at some point we have to spend the high picks on the line.

Everything depends on FA. I say you need 2 parts. "gsht187" has the 2 in Free Agency we need.

If we get those 2, then I would look at another Guard and Tackle. I honestly don't think that Flozell is the answer, I saw way to many times where he didn't even get a finger nail on his defender and that's unaccetable. Kosier is solid, I would love to up grade this position, but if we can't then we can't, it's not life threatening.

We have Austin and Hurd. 2 young prospects who we hope will be studs. You only need 1 true stud at WR, the rest can be solid pretty good contributers.

We need CB, NT, and WR. I would look to WR on day one, but if you can get a stud LT or RG in the draft, GET HIM AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!!
