The problem is would Jerry give a GM the free reign he needs, or would he micro manage just like he does everything else.
Sadly I'm not confident.
The only way out IMO is to have someone with such gravitas that they can stand up to Jerry (like Jimmy/Tuna did).
Not a lot of GM's out there like that.
I think if he did decide to hire a GM, we'd interview also rans who were available (just like we did with head coaches) who would be yes men for Jerry. And get the same result.
I actually think we had an opportunity last year, when Urban Meyer announced on the Herd that he would be interested.
I know Meyer is not perfect, I get it, but he has the kind of gravitas needed to say NO to Jerry. He is also a phenomenal leader of men.
I was hoping we'd bring him in with full power, have him Coach for a few years, then name one of his assistants as HC and step upstairs. Like what he did at OSU. Instead, Jerry hired another rerun NFL head coach yes man.
Same bad plan = Same bad result.
I fear it would be similar with most GM's.
