Yeah.

I like David Carr as a QB but his Run Game is absolutely horrid. Most teams, including the Cowboys are going to have them one dimensional by the 2nd Quarter and I personally thought it was only a matter of time before he started turning the ball over because he has no run game.

I have to re-check the game, but I thought we got sack toward the end of the game.

Not sure if you are thinking of this play.

However on one play Ellis put pressure on Carr in the backfield and forced Carr to run out of bounds for a loss.

Personally I think if the QB is hit and dropped or is forced out of bounds for a loss than it should count as a Sack.

Earlier in the season we got to a QB (can not remember which game) for a loss but they said it was not a sack because the QB was doing a draw or planned run...yet he was still tackled behind the LOS.

I beleive any loss of yards by a QB is considered a sack. Including running out of bounds and fumbles no matter who recovers.

Edit: Providing the fumble is a loss of yards and not recovered and ran for positive yards.

Nah, this one was on the backup and I thought I heard that Ellis and another defender were going to get a 1/2 sack.

But according to NFL.com, noone was credited with any.

I thought so too but I am pretty sure I heard during the game yesterday that they did not give Ellis credit for a sack on that play.

Now I will say that the TVU player I was using was sticking so maybe I heard wrong on that but I thought that was what I heard.

you were thinking of Vince Young we tackled him for a los 2 times, but on both he was tackled after he attempted to scramble and run so it counted as a run play

Sacks are a good read as to how much pressure you are getting on QBs.

Today, we rushed 4 most of the time and didnt get any sacks. Houston kept at least man in most of the time and Carr did a good job of getting the ball out quickly. The result was short patterns that either we had covered (Henry played short routes all game) or a quick tackle by a LB in zone.

The 4 man rush would have gotten more sacks had Houston tried to go to deeper routes, but had they tried that you might have seen a blitz or two from us.

I think Houstons game plan was for shorter routes to avoid sacks and we were happy to let them try to put a long drive together. Works for me anyway.

Wow, someone who actually understands the concept of defensive schemes!

Houston, for whatever reason, decided to test the Cowboys on short routes rather than go after the safeties on deeper routes. Shorter routes mean less time to get to the QB with a standard four-man rush. The Dallas defense will take the dink and dunk stuff all day because it gives the opponent more opportunities to make a mistake.

Anyway, the Dallas defense is designed so that individual players win their one-on-one battles. Blame Canty, Spears, and Ferguson -- if you want to blame anyone -- for not winning those one-on-ones in passing situations.

Bob Dole needs to lay off the viagra and let the blood return to his head... :D

if you want to complain about coaching, complain about the OL coach of the Cowboys,,,, they had to max protect all day and still let Bledsoe get sacked and harrassed.

A bash Mike Zimmer thread at Cowboyszone! You're probably shocked.

It is warrented today though, against a team as bad as the Texans, the Cowboys had ZERO quarterback sacks.

Not only did they have zero quarterback sacks, but they weren't even close to Carr but maybe one or two times.

Now, as we all know, David Carr is one of the tougher QB's in the league to sack, but that is simply no excuse.

Bob Dole has heard people all year long with these tiresome "Ware vs. Merriman", "Is Marcus Spears a bust?" discussions.

The fact of the matter is this - there is NOBODY out there that can tell Bob Dole with a straight face that this defense doesn't have the talent to be causing havoc on opposing QB's.

So why aren't they?

Mike Zimmer.

Has it ever crossed anyone's mind that we just don't have the best pass rushers around .......?

The game plan this week was to play conservative and not blitz a lot so that we didn't expose ourselves to the possibility of big plays, because we knew full well that the only way Houston had a chance was if they made big plays.

So we limited our pass rush to 4-5 people.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have gotten a pass rush.

The fact is that if we can't at least put some pressure the QB and ocassionally sack him with 4-5 people then schemes and game plans aren't the story - personnel is.

Good pass rushers don't ONLY pressure QB's when aided by blitz pacakages ........

And blitz packages are supposed to supplement the pass rush, not be the ONLY source of it.
