The Brandin Cooks trade doesn't solve the problem. It is the problem!

Very good player, I tend not to look at players we don't have vs players who we do or are available and not too keen on paying him the avg of 30 mill a season?

they restructured his deal, giving him a bonus which is now spread out over 2 years.... he is locked in for 2 years..... which is what they WANTED anyways. As he came they could have opted out after 1 year.
So that lowers his cap hit this year about $6 million and lowers his cap hit next year about $3 million.

4.33 speed when he was 21? What a joke. He is sooooo good that 4 other teams have sent him packing.
Do you think he is garbage? Or do you think he is an improvement on what the squad had last season? I think he will fill the role they will have for him quite well. He isn't being asked to be the #1 WR and certainly isn't being paid for the role, either. I was against trading a 1st or 2nd round pick for him last year because that isn't worth it. This trade and current contract make him quite the value for Dallas and leave them with options in both the draft and the remainder of free agency.

not sure about next year, but it definitely lowered what they are paying this year. Since Zeke's savings comes after June 1st, Im assuming that money will cover most of the rookie class?? Could they have freed up more money to make 1 more run at a FA that is still out there?

CD Lamb is the player you are talking about. He will excel with Cooks and a healed up Gallup running routes next to him.
I hope Gallup is significantly more impactful this year. I liked him a lot before that ACL. Not so much after it.

When Brandin Cooks joins the Dallas Cowboys, he will join his 5th team in his 9-year career.

Saints, Pats, Rams, Texans, and now the Cowboys. A lot of folks on here are caught up by a name they recognize and a player some wanted during the season, last year. And I'll be the first to admit that Brandin Cooks is a NICE player, he isn't what this team needs.

This team needs an offensive weapon. A "game wrecker" of sorts. Not another nice WR that will fight for number 2 touches in our offense.

It points to the obvious blind spot in the front office that most of here can see but some are blinded too as well.

IMO settling for anything short of DHop or OBJ is just that. Settling.
Cooks is going to basically give you Amari Cooper numbers every year like clockwork (1000+ yards - 90 receptions - 6 TDs). That is not insignificant production and puts him squarely in the top 20 receiver range. Cooks + Ceedee + Gallup is an excellent group of wideouts.

The game wrecker you so badly want is very difficult to come by. DHop would fit the bill, but he is going to come at a very steep price and if Cooks can give you 80% of the production at half the price, he is the much wiser signing.

I agree. The past three years both Cooks and Lamb have each produced more than Hopkins has while in Arizona. I do think Hopkins has the potential to have a great, impactful season, but the price in terms of both draft picks and money are too much in my opinion. Dallas has more than one position to improve.

We got Cooks, Gilmore, and 5 million in cap room instead of DHop.

Gotta look at the big pic.

I disagree. Cook has put up the numbers over his career, he still has very good speed to be a threat on deep balls in turn that opens up space for Lamb. Stat wise Cooks numbers are as good as Cooper, very little difference between the 2. I don't think this move guarantees anything not did Cooper guarantee anything? Cook is a very talented player and has the numbers to back it up.
Except we did a whole lot better in this trade. We only gave up two day 3 picks instead of a 1st.

Jeebus ...... The OBJ thirst is real with some of these posters
OBJ has big talent however my concern is the ACL injuries in back to back years. I'm happy with getting Cook looking at the deal Cowboys did an excellent job. Cook is still getting the 18 mill on this season just that Houston is paying 6 mill of it

I think he will fill a role, but I dont think WR was the teams problem last year. So the big question is how many more points is he really going to add to our team total from last year?

Would it be good well of course in this era you don’t get everything you try to piece together within the cap. Now let’s call me capboy. Look right now at the teams that went forward and now they can’t bring back everything they had from last year if you don’t want to accept it that’s on you

if Tolbert has a great camp and shines, the issue is solved. BUT I would call the Cards and see if they would take a 4th rd pick and a conditional 3rd next year for DHOP. That buys us time to wait on Tolbert, letting him develop and get integrated into the scheme.

exactly. Its like an alcoholic "thirst" freaking catnip this Beckham thing. Its strange as heck. The guy wants the bag and is an arse. Yet many here still want him.

IMO OBJ was a serious threat when he could outrun an entire defense. That's no longer the case. Hasn't been for a few years now. Now he's just a name.

You have to remember that this is an insanely flawed organization that doesn't go after game changing FAs so don't expect too much from this club in 2023.................
