The Brandon Carr situation

The Cowboys are likely squeeze Carr just like they did Free. By waiting until after the draft to offer the pay cut
or just cut option to Carr, they really limit his opportunities to make any real money until next year. Most teams
will have filled their positions by draft time or just draft a CB. Carr will be in a real low negotiating position at
that point in the process... It's likely that he would just accept the pay cut and keep playing for the Boys unless
he just gets mad and says buhbye...We better have options if he does that...

Can someone explain how Carr had a horrible season. May seem like a dumb question. But was he really all that horrible. Stats please? Times thrown at, passes defenses, passes caught and yardage, average yards per attempt at him. He's never been a INT guy though.
I know he is not living up to his pay, but was he really all that bad compared to 2013.

I am not defending Carr, but just asking people to back their statements instead of just making the normal statements that he needs to be cut.

Though there are some good posts on here about salary cap issues. Remember if cut, add his cap hit to his replacements cost, and is that value worth it talent wise.

He'll be here. It's a roster and talent move at this point, in my opinion. You ready to trot out Morris Claiborne for 16 weeks on the other side of Scandrick? Patmon isn't ready. Sterling Moore your starter? A high draft pick?

For these reasons I think Carr will return. People won't like it, but he's a better option than the alternative.

They also will not restructure him. He would sign a new deal for less, if anything.

Yeah, I meant a new deal for less as opposed to any sort of "push salary forward" kinda thing.

He's not getting 9 mill as a UFA, so he's likely open to a cut. He HSS underwhelmed but it is hard to evaluate dbs when the pass rush is so limited

No, he's definitely not getting 9 mil. I think he gets that cut in half.

Fair enough.

If you're going by QB Passer Rating Given Up, Carr gave up a QB rating of 116.6, which ranked 70th in the NFL.

If you're going by TD's given up he was 57th (with 6 passing TD's given up).

If you're going by Int's he was tied for last (with 0 picks).

If yards-after-catch given up he was 66th (with 321 yards given up).

Thanks, at least something to show why. I knew he wasn't playing great, but didn't know it was that bad either.
He did play better toward the end, but the entire defense was.

He was less of a problem than the pass rush was. If the pass rush were intact, people likely wouldnt be able to whine about him either.

we are stuck with him for one more year is my guess... hopefully his role is reduced due to an influx of young talent.

This season, is a rather poor outlook for drafting a really quality cornerback or safety. To go the draft route to fill positional needs, will be quite a gamble for this team, now.

That would most realisticly means sticking with both Carr, and Claiborne for the corners, and putting a safety in the highlights for free agency.

I assume you mean 2 veteran CBs?

That's depends on who they are. I see the Cowboys re-signing Moore and either keeping Carr with a pay cut or replacing Carr with 1 free agent and adding a CB in the draft.

I think the players in the 1st section of the list below are as good or better than Carr. I would just offer Carr and all of those players 3M per season and sign the 1st one that takes it.

26 Davon House GB

Not going to lie. If Carr won't take a pay cut I'd love to sign Tillman to the vet minimum & draft a corner with similar traits to him for him to mentor for the year.

He started off rough, but came on as the season wore on. Many people think his mental state was effected by the passing of his mother which is understandable. I am ok with him returning at 3.5/4mill, he isn't nearly as bad as 70th overall.

I usually dog Brandon Carr for comparative reasons involving contract dollars-to-performance ratio. But, I have to say I thought he played very well in the playoffs - much better than he did in the regular season. With that said - Dallas will still need a discount from the guy. And a good one, too.

I don't recall an off-season with so many plots brewing. From everything we have heard Carr comes off as type of guy who would accept reduced pay. But its still unclear. What we do know is he absolutely is not $12 million year type of player. There is very good chance Dallas takes CB in 1st or 2nd around as draft has some really good players in that range. I want to see how Marcus Peters interviews this week at combine. He could start tomorrow and be as good as any Cowboys starter but has some behavioral issues that need to be researched further.

I'll state right now (and I don't think it's any kind of stretch...) that Carr will not get his $9 mil next season. Restructure or get released.

I think he takes a paycut to around 1-2mil in his base salary. saving 6-7mil in the came.

Carr gets a lot of hate around these parts, and I think it's more to do with his contract than anything.

Cutting him creates another hole on defense, which is something we don't need. Improve our front 7 and watch Carr and the rest of this secondary magically become better.
