The Coaching Carousel

Every year before the last week starts I post this thread theme. How many are gone? Who do you see as the coaches on the way out? Who do you think gets the axe first? Who is your surprise fire?

Shurmer...Browns
Turner...Chargers (my first one announced)
Reid...Eagles
Schwantz...Lions (my surprise fired guy)
Ryan...Jets
Crennell...Cheifs
Gailey...Bills
Whisenhunt...Cardinals
Mularky...Jaguars

how about our DC Rob Ryan?....IMO he's been all hype and little substance...ya ya i know about the injuries but before then I still wasn't impressed. Very little pressure, very few turnovers, and usually a crappy gameplan. Here's a fast fact, there are 4, yes FOUR INDIVIDUALS in the NFL this year that have as many INTs as our entire TEAM! pathetic....

I think every case is different; when a new coach takes over.

To start with what is the shape of the roster

What is the status of the GM

How is the Salary Cap

If like Red Ball you take over a team that is already a playoff contender the leash should be shorter.

If you take over a disaster like say a 2-14 team then you should have a longer leash
When a roster is without say a Quality QB and is otherwise devoid of real talent you will need more time

But if you have a franchize QB and other talent already there, frankly you SHOULD NOT need that much time. 3 years Max to get to the playoffs at least.

Turner to the Chargers
Phillips to the Cowboys.

Two mistakes!

And they were the final two candidates for the Cowboys job at the time.

Great work by the GM.

A surprise hire would be DeCamillis. I don't think that's part of the game but I'm throwing that out there.

I really hope we get better on the defensive staff.

Every year it's the defense that gets us beat. For different reasons its always the defense.

Romo takes the heat nationally, but it's always the defense.

This year the injuries are too much at this point to expect much, but we need a better staff. A difference maker who has a real plan.

TO differential. There's a 24 TO differential between us and the Skins this year. That's a ridiculously big number between two teams with similar records.

Yep that's part of it too.

The bears have 41 turnovers forced and might not make the playoffs.

If we could ever get turnovers we would be in great shape.

It's not looking too good for Lovie Smith....was cautiously optimistic the Packers would beat the Vikings, putting the Bears into the playoffs.

Nope: Vikes lead 10-0.

Phillips is regressing in Houston just like he did here. He starts out on fire and then he goes and acquires old veterans that are familiar with his scheme and then it goes downhill.

No Garrett? I don't think he gets axed, but he still deserves to be in the conversation especially if the Cowboys totally tank tonight.

If the Cowboys tank tonight, depending on the game overall, he may enter the conversation--rightfully so.

He's more likely to be in the coach of the year discussion if he limps this group to a division title than he is to be on the coaching black list no matter what happens tonight.

Please. Wade is regressing in Houston because they have a very banged up defense that has lost its pass rush.

Fans are so insanely daft.

Rex Ryan is a good DC here. He is getting heat because people are generally stupid. This team has lost a ridiculous amount of defensive talent and is starting off the street players.

They may be injured but that doesn't change my opinion of him. I believe atleast to an extent, he favors an old guy( if he is familiar with his scheme)more often than he should.

I said more likely to be in that discussion. How else would you explain limping this IR list past Coughlin, Reid, and Shanahan playing more-or-less the same schedule? I'd consider that an impressive accomplishment if we win tonight.

There's more to head coaching in this league than fans second-guessing play calling based off of largely insufficient information, after all.

You are entitled to any opinion of him you like but it doesn't match the evidence in Houston.

They let guys walk off that defense and replaced them with some very young draft picks.

Yes they have 80 year old Bradie James but they are by and large a very young defense.

What young players did he hold back here in Dallas?

Wade has issues as a Head Coach but he loves talent and plays talent regardless of age. His rookie 4th rounder plays tons of snaps and his 1st rounder is starting. If Brooks Reed and Brian Cushing were healthy he'd look a lot smarter as DC.

Completely agree.

Turner...Chargers - Andy Reid (David Caldwell GM)

Schwartz...Lions - Jon Gruden
Crennell...Cheifs - Bruce Arians (Polian replaces Pioli as GM)
Gailey...Bills - Greg Roman(Tom Gamble GM)
Whisenhunt...Cardinals - Ray Horton (Mike Maccagnan GM)
Mularky...Jaguars - Josh McDaniels (Pioli GM Tebow Tebow Tebow )
Rivera....Carolina - Bill Cowher (Surprise GM/HC)

I assume you meant to say Rob Ryan. He should get some heat for some of his coaching decisions. Rushing three men and playing scared has hurt the defense. It can't be blamed on injuries. He was outcoached in the Seahawks game when everyone was healthy. Even "stupid" fans would have put more pressure on a rookie QB. He has earned the heat that he feels.

I really wish more people would realize all of this.

Our D has been getting us beat for years, and if we lose tonight will be the reason why we lose.

We just have to find a way to create more turnovers, even when healthy we didn't produce them. People hate the 3 man rush with a zone behind it, but it does produce INTs for some teams, just not us.

Some will blame the injures, but guess what, we weren't producing turnovers before the injuries cause teams just have too big of windows to throw in when facing this defense. You have seen average QBs pick us apart, even with 2 double digit sackers, and it is cause these windows are too large.
