The Cooper Effect

It’s only a two game sample size, but Amari Cooper is having a very positive effect on Dak and the Cowboys offense. His presence has had an immediate impactful improvement and here are some quick examples of that evidence:

1. Before Cooper, Dak’s completion rate was 62%. Since Cooper’s arrival, it’s up to 70%.

2. Before Cooper, the third down conversion rate for the Cowboys offense was an anemic 31%, near the bottom of the league. In the two games since his arrival, 3rd down conversion rate has improved to 48%.

3. Cooper has 11 receptions in two games- 9 of those 11 receptions were on 3rd down and resulted in a first down.

4. With Cooper’s presence on the field, defenses are having to roll more coverage to him, opening up more opportunities for Beasley, Gallup and Hurns.

Again, it’s a small sample size, but Amari Cooper has had an immediate positive impact. For Dak, having at least one serious threat at WR gives him so much more to work with.

I was wrong about this trade. I did not like it at first, but I will gladly eat some crow. Now it’s up to this coaching staff (God help us) to take advantage of the team’s new offensive prowess, lol.

so the conclusion is exactly what some said it was. That REAL receivers would improve the way Dak plays. CHECK!!!!!

Yes, the coaches need to use Jerry's shiny new toy. And not screw it up.
And as mentioned in another thread. The use of Olawale helped in the run game as well.

The OL was much better. Was this because Su'a-filo made that big of a difference, or was it the Colombo / Houck effect.
But most likely a combination of everything.

It’s still important to remember two things to temper excitement:

1. It’s a small sample size.
2. Jason Garrett is still this team’s HC.
3. Jerry Jones is still in charge of EVERYTHING with this team.
 
trading off a 1st always hurts and trading it off for a guy who wasn't putting up much in the way of numbers is why a typical reaction was to LOL.

but advanced metrics suggested amari was getting open quite a lot and that oakland may well have just not wanted to win games this year.
that they are tanking purposefully to clean out the locker room of players gruden doesnt want and rebuild it in his image.

having watched the guy for 2 weeks here it is clear he is the most talented DAL wr.
he has beasley's quickness but was also able to take that big 3rd down hit and still go get 2 extra yards.
he certainly isn't dropping passes.
and outside dak and amari being slightly off on deep balls there's been nothing to complain about for the two of them.
he is a different dude outside then they had and a most acceptable use of the 2019 r1 as we sit.

Agree it was a combination of everything, but on top of Columbo and Sua-Filo, Cooper actually helps the OL because teams can't run blitz all day long. That causes a lot of confusion on the OL and with a deep threat, they spend more time beating their man.

While Cooper’s addition has been a great help, teams will start making adjustments to his presence soon. And once again this coaching staff will have to show that they have learned something about in-season adjustments.

The NFL season is a constant chess match between coaches who study film and make effective adjustments...and those who can’t. In order for Cooper to stay an effective weapon, these coaches are going to have to continue finding ways to use him and add some new wrinkles. So far that has been Garrett and Linehan’s downfall. We’ll see.
 
He could have offered a 2nd and a 3rd in 2019 or two 2nds... but we outbid ourselves.
 
While it will suck not having a 1st round pick to be excited about this next spring, I love the trade. We needed a solid WR and we got one. I just look at it like Cooper is who we are going to draft this April. Lol
 
I did notice, they used him in the slot a few times last game... that's a smart move in my opinion then just sticking him out wide every passing down. oh and BTW Bob, my roots are in S Louisianna, there isn't ANYTHING walks, crawls or flies, that don't taste better with a good brown gravy...even crow :laugh:

How come you said 2 things and put down 3?

I am so confused. I do know none of the above will change except for maybe #1.
 
Another addition is with defenses rolling cover to Cooper... Zeke has open field on weak side runs away

Thats what I notice
