Our pass rush is elite but our run defense isn’t. Funny how they left out our run defense which ranks 24th.
They’re running the ball on us simply because our pass rush is so dangerous. It’s not that we are bad stopping the run. It’s just that that’s what teams are doing to us. Yes we could be better

Passing defense correlates much more strongly with winning than rushing defense. Having a top 3 passing defense statistically almost guarantees you’ll make it to at least the divisional round.
OK but it would be nice if they could fix the run D.

The Cowboys have given up the 7th most rushing yards in the league and one reason is because their best linebacker is being used as a pass rusher most of the time. Our linebackers struggle against the run and we’ve had some problems upfront, which is why we traded for Jonathan Hankins. Opponents have been run heavy against us to avoid our pass rush. Even when we have teams behind they continue to run the ball. Defending the run has been a problem for the Cowboys for years. It caught up with them in the playoffs last season and it will catch up with them again if they don’t improve.

Yes, but despite the rush yards given up, we are still ranked 3rd in scoring (1 extra point away from being in 2nd place). That means a whole lot more than being 10th in rushing.

We bend but don’t break however, we did give up 29 points to Chicago two weeks ago. Our run defense must improve if we’re going to get over the hump. We had a great opportunity to beat Philly a few weeks ago, but we couldn’t stop their running attack late in the fourth quarter. They imposed their will on us.

The pass D is elite, the run D certainly less so.

I do think we are a victim of our own success and teams run on us simply because they see that as the keys to success. The Bears game was a great example of a team knowing they had to run on us despite the points differential. Almost gave us the W.

I'm not overly concerned by our run D as we have the ability to make the opposition 1 dimensional right now. Can't remember seeing a Dallas D dictate to an opponent how they need to play us for a long time.

It's an advantage, no doubt.

Not saying we don't have room to improve, but excluding the Chi game, we have given up an average of 15 points a game...even including Chi we are giving up 17 points a game. I wouldn't base our overall run defense off of that one game. Yes we need to improve...but as long as we are not giving up pts, I will take it (not withstanding giving up the field position battle)

#### PFF and their grades, but I know what this Defense is and have known since pre season what this Defense could become.
This defense has not even reached its potential yet.
PFF is just a day late and a dollar short as usual.

We haven’t given up a lot of points, but we have given up the 7th most rushing yards. That’s not based off of one game. We’ve given up 140+ rushing yards in at least three games this season. It’s hard to keep everyone out of the end zone, we saw that against Chicago. Philly put up 26 points on us and one reason was they were able to run the football, especially late in the fourth quarter. We have to get better against the run or it will catch up with us in the playoffs if we make the playoffs. We could end up running into San Francisco again, and it could be a repeat of what we saw last year in the playoffs.

If that one dimension keeps our offense off the field and scores points, it's all they need.

Thing is, every other team saw what Chicago did, so if we don't fix it, it's just going to get worse as teams build on what the Bears did.
