The rush defense woes are way overblown imo.

You can't get all caught up in the rankings. PFR has Dallas ranked 23'rd in yards per rush, at 4.7. Sounds terrible. If you look closer you'll see that reducing that by less than .5 yards per rush gets them in the top ten. Not a significant difference. League average is 4.5.

The Cowboys are second best in rushing TD's given up with 4. The 23'rd ranked team is the Jets with 10. League average is 8.

The Cowboys are right in the middle at 16th with rushing attempts against - 232. 228.4 is the league average.

This defense overall is the best we've had in decades. I'm not going to get upset if their aggressiveness leads to giving up a couple big runs a game, which lead to field goals.

They’re running the ball on us simply because our pass rush is so dangerous. It’s not that we are bad stopping the run. It’s just that that’s what teams are doing to us. Yes we could be better
So, we can't have a great pass rush and at least a decent run defense? Our DE play wide out but they seem to miss out on half of their responsibilities. Being wide gives them the opportunity to set the edge and contain but they rush the qb like they are having a sack contest.

Well, we all said the same thing last year and 49ers kept pounding us for 30 some carries and 200 yards on the ground. Period. So, I'll save the talk for a playoff game. Oh yeah, the team did a lot of chirpin before that game too.

Do any of you recall the bend don't break of the 92-95 defenses? I'm not condoning the run defense as we see it. But there is a half season left. Plenty of time to bring that per yard rush down with the addition of Hankins.

As seasons progress, coaches make adjustments to strengthen deficiencies if the coach is worth his salt. If Quinn hasn't convinced you by this time he is a cut or two above the average coach, you might review your cynicism.

Lots of football left. The arch enemy will be on the field tomorrow. This is a tough stretch. Packer and Vikings on the road. Then the Giants. All within 11 days.

Gotta take 'em one day at a time. As Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh once said.

You are only as good as your last game. Who said that? because it is true.

My thoughts.....and it's simplistic I admit. Its really hard to run consistently and pick up 7. A flag here, negative yards run there and you either punt or kick for 3. Teams can't CONSISTENTLY put up 7 on us drive after drive.

The cap era makes teams pick their strength and weaknesses and I like our decision making on D......at least for now.

Exactly. Every team has holes. If you’re going to be “weak” on defense you want it to be against the run.

Once you start playing elite NFL teams they usually have QB who could care less about turning around and giving it to their RB.

Thing is, every other team saw what Chicago did, so if we don't fix it, it's just going to get worse as teams build on what the Bears did.

The Bears did nothing but #1) Have a running QB capable of rivaling Lamar Jackson and #2) Continue to run while down 14+ points most of the game.

Not saying opponents won't run on this team a bit, but expecting other squads to be capable of emulating the college offense the Bears run is unrealistic. The Chicago offense is putting up monster rushing numbers on everyone and still managing to lose.

It’s a passing league. If you want to stop the run then put some points on the board with your offense.

Nearly every team will abandon the run if you score points.

Our pass rush is elite but our run defense isn’t. Funny how they left out our run defense which ranks 24th.
Teams are running when the game is essentially over because they have little to no chance to pass continuously.

Sacks = $.

Simple enough.

Sure. We're not that far off from a "decent" run defense.

But having a top pass defense and a top rush defense is difficult.

Just try to improve...

Which leads to big pay days then no results

Yep. But that's the "modern" NFL, when you had players having to take off season jobs to make ends meet, or make a better than average living, you played football because you loved it, not because you can make gazillions of dollars.

Not saying some guys like Parsons or others don't have playing the game as their top priority, but it's just not that common....

I mean, can you really blame them? If getting 10 sacks vs 6 meant a difference in my future annual contract value of 5-10 million dollars I think I might care a little bit about picking up those few extra sacks. The NFL first and foremost is a business and players are employees. This isn't high school football.
