This is true but as for the contract........it was the perfect storm for Zeke where timing was everything. He had just finished the 3rd year of his rookie deal where he was top 3 in rushing with over 1400 yards. Everyone knew he wanted a new deal but thought he was fine waiting another year. LOL.....Zeke dropped a bomb, not showing up for OTAs and threatening to sit out w/o a new deal. Caught Jerry and Stephen totally off guard. Their lead rusher, who they just burned 4th overall pick on three years ago now wants a new deal or says he's sitting out. It was unprecedented .... player on a rookie deal demanded a new one immediately after his 3rd year.

What options did Stephen have? call his bluff and make him sit out, fold and give him a new deal or trade him.
Jones blew it. All he had to do was call Zeke's bluff and let him sit out 3 games. Pollard gets the 3 starts his rookie year and becomes completely obvious we dont need Zeke and Pollard is better.

But Jerry felt Zeke was needed for their SB run. Another huge blunder.

That would've been my choice......call his bluff and make him sit out. I would've told him you better rent an apartment because you're gonna be there for a while. Period. Caving was a mistake.
I liked drafting him but the Cabo caving painted us into a corner.

There’s no reason to rag on zeke. The contract he got isn’t his fault. Good player for a long time. Left it all out on the field. It was time to move on. Is what it is
Good player for a long time? 4 years is a long time?

One of those years he got himself suspended and we missed the playoffs because of it. Single handedly ruined that season.

Yeah. 4 years is a decent amount of time. Not many players are good for much longer. And he was really really good for a period of time

So insulting. Paying a guy still more than people who actually perform life-saving surgeries. It REALLY pisses me off when players are crying about not getting a few more million when they're making enough mony to never work again, send their kids to college, live in a mansion, and will have a nice NFL pension.

It was an overreaction. After Murray they thought someone like Tashard Choice could be the lead back. They were so stupid in that thinking that they overreacted and went all in getting a back. And of course Garrett was pushing hard for it.
It was Joseph Randle. Choice was gone after 2011. Your boy AC argued with me in favor of Randle. I think he still thinks Randle wasn't given a fair shot.

It was a screw-up at all stages

  • We should have drafted Jalen Ramsey.
  • We should never have re-signed Zeke
  • We should have given him way fewer carries to preserve his career a bit

The Jones Boys were steamrolled by Zeke and his Agent with the last contract. Best to just move on with an infusion of youth at the position.

People are making a big deal about spilt milk. Zeke was only here for two more years than he would have been had they not extended him. He was a cap gobbler for 1 whole year. People are acting like this is some travesty.

:) starfan will tell ya im the biggest homer....as an insult. Is true im a fan. Wont go intp epic 2014 epic ncaa 1st playoff championship. Why would dallas cowboys fans care about a dallas cowboys credentials and pedigree when they hate him....and think they are heroes for doing so

But i did object to his holdout. I objected to an obscene contract. And coming back "fat".

It appears...i do have to apologize..
For giving zeke some slack for playing injured and dysfunctional organization

So you are saying they were too dumb for zeke....yet you are still a fan?
So epic....does not compute.

Lol, “to avoid insulting him” come on man, Cowboys didn’t want Zeke anymore at the league minimum. And I’m not joking. If you don’t believe me 32 other teams are not going to pick him up. He’s done. He’s retired whether he knows it or not.

Remember what happened when Jerry tried to call Emmitt's bluff? Almost lost the locker room....... players' attention to their teammate's negotiations. If they are not willing to pay not just a teammate but one of the best players in the league, what does that say about me?

sure it was his fault. The jones clown crew was complicit and equally at fault, but he pushed for it, got it and this is what comes with it.

Nice to see you again. I didn’t like Randle, but I will defend him that year (2015). People to this day will give Zeke every excuse they can dream of to justify a 4.1 ypc, yet won’t acknowledge the impossible position Randle was put in playing primarily behind Weeden with TWill as the #1 receiver and rake him over the coals with the same 4.1 ypc. Furthermore, people will still try to trash DMC for his 1K season after replacing Randle. Baffles me.

It was 2 years left counting the 5th year option. As for selecting him 4th overall, the right position but probably could have traded down and still drafted him. We have to remember the two straws stirring their thinking in drafting Zeke. First, they initially struggled with whether or not to move up and draft Wentz ( who they coached in the Senior Bowl ) or Goff but decided against it coz Romo was looking to play another 3-4 years. Second, Romo had a career year in 2014 when DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing. So drafting Zeke was all about putting Romo in the best position to lead us to an SB AND covering for NOT re-signing Murray.
Jason Garrett ruined him... He was Adrian Peterson 2.0 coming into the league, took the NFL by storm ..and we had the OL to further maximize his combo of breakaway home run speed
and punishing power and knack for the goal line TD.

Led the NFL in rushing Twice prior to his new contract, so he earned the right to play for a bigger contract - but Garrett regime decided to bulk him up and beat him up.
They wanted him to be Emmitt Smith 90's,.(which is all Garrett knows) . and take on running, catching blitz blocker, without much relief and breathers. ..maybe little wonder he
was tapping his head out of games ?

I can't remember all the back and forth, but I distinctly remember Randle being hyped up by AC. He was pretty pedestrian as I recall it. Expectations were high after that meat on the bone comment. Then he stole some underwear. Lol

It was nice to get away, right?
