The Cowboys didn't offer Zeke a reduced deal to avoid insulting him

I think he makes a nice complement to Pollard. Elliott does some things well that Pollard doesn’t. Specifically short yardage power runs and pass protection.

And in my opinion, Kellen Moore’s finesse running game didn’t do a power back any favors. I think he would fare better under the Schottenheimer/Solari style run game.
This whole thing about Zeke being so much better than Pollard at pass protection is exaggerated. Pollard is much better in pass pro than given credit for.

I can't remember all the back and forth, but I distinctly remember Randle being hyped up by AC. He was pretty pedestrian as I recall it. Expectations were high after that meat on the bone comment. Then he stole some underwear. Lol

It was nice to get away, right?
Randle was actually a darn good back, as far as having the physical talent.

He just didn't have it between the ears, and/or had developed CTE.

How many other teams do you think have not offered respected veterans a reduced deal but did not see the need to get that out in the public?

If the Cowboys have ever had a player they need to be respectful of his feelings, Elliott isn't it. He held out with two left and went for the money and I had no problem with that but his move made it all 100% business and there are no feelings in business.

You sure about that? He held out after his 3rd year.
Positive. The rules were different back then. It was common knowledge that Emmitt didn't have a contract. He was not holing out. He didn't have a contract. The hold up was about what he was going to be paid going forward. But he was not under contract.

Wouldn't wanna hurt fat boys feelings. Feelings are important in Dallas. Production not so much.

Yeah, one wouldn't want to insult the overpaid declining commodity running back......I'm insulted the Cowboys selected him in the first round 4th overall in a league where Running backs have become less of a value position and then caved to his contract demands with a year left on his contract.....
I don't understand the vindictiveness in these comments.

Yes, he has declined, and in retrospect probably wasn't the best drat pick they could have made. That's just the nature of the game and of the draft. Draft picks aren't guaranteed to work out the way you hope.

As for the contract, both sides make demands. That's how negotiating goes. Why be upset with him for having an agent that negotiated a good deal for him?

I’d take him back for $2 - $3 million a year.

(ducks)
I think people would be happy to have him back at that price. It’s a totally different scenario than being paid one of the highest RB salaries in the league and taking away snaps from people better than him.

That makes no since
He’s near the top of the list for all time rushing TD’s and you don’t think he’s goid along the goal line?
He's good for a yard or 2, but half those goal line TDs he goes in untouched thanks to the rest of the team. I want a RB who will make explosive plays and shred a defense in the 4th. Zeke can't do any of that anymore.. especially, at the end of the year when it matters most. If we need 1-2y, I'm seriously ok with Pollard, Davis, a FB/"jumbo package", some draftee RB. Get one more free agent/draft to improve the line.

Because I think he gets resigned after June 1. He will feel out the market and if he gets offered 3 plus million he may go elsewhere. But I think the plan is to give him between 2 and 3 million on a new contract. He is already getting 6 million from the last contract and being released. Add in another 2 million with I am sure player incentives for a certain amount of TDs or carries or yards and I think he comes back. He really wanted to stay. And things have gotten quiet.

he's not coming back, there is no other team that wants him for any price, only Cowboy fans that can't see the writing on the wall for a declining player that they only think that he's still great, he's done!!!

I’m not advocating for bringing Zeke back at all
But his whole career he’s been good around the goal line and that’s just a fact

Yeah man. See the same people making the same arguments. Nothing has changed a bit.

Remember what happened when Jerry tried to call Emmitt's bluff? Almost lost the locker room....... players' attention to their teammate's negotiations. If they are not willing to pay not just a teammate but one of the best players in the league, what does that say about me?
You're comparing apples to oranges. As I understand it, in 1993 Emmitt did not have a deal in place, Zeke did! Zeke was under contract, he was just trying to force a new deal ahead of time. Big difference.
