The Cowboys have spent less cash on players than any other team in the last 2 years

Yeah, we technically have been "cheap" the last couple of years but cash spent can often be skewed.

It can simply be a timing issue. If you gave a guy a big signing bonus three years ago with small base salaries the last two years, it looks like we spent little cash over that two year period but in reality we spent a lot of cash overall.

Its a cap league. Whether you put out your big contracts to fill the cap 3 years ago or 5 years ago or last year all that matters is that you cannot go over the cap. This is honestly such a strange way of judging things that it almost certainly falls under looking for data to justify theories.

Was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure what this tells us. If anyone wants to take this as Dallas is cheap, which is the usual take, that's incorrect. The Cowboys have spent (and possibly overspent, depending on who you ask) to retain their own players. They have shown over and over again that they will pay market value or above for their guys.

The problem is not them being cheap. The problem is their free agent philosophy, which is reward your own and add low-cost outside free agents because you can get burned by high-cost outside FAs and be stuck with the salary cap tab.

When Dallas goes cheap again in free agency this year, it will be for that same reason. The Joneses are stupidly and stubbornly married to this philosophy even though it hasn't paid dividends. That's one of the issues with having an owner who is also the GM. Jones has gone from being a free agent wildcatter who overpaid for good but not great talent but had a bad draft philosophy to finally getting good at the draft (with some guidance from Bill Parcells) and adopting a bad FA philosophy. A GM who doesn't have job security is forced to adapt when a philosophy doesn't pay off quickly.

three of these teams are this low because the spending valuations treat cash commitments made in February/early March as belonging to a prior league year so teams that do a lot of restructures for cap purposes could lose money to a prior valuation period, which is what I believe happened to these three team.

Maybe read the article you posted.

I'm pretty sure that they spent almost all of their cap space and certainly had a full roster and one of the best teams in the league. Now they are set up to have their 3rd consecutive double digit win seasons and will be in good position to sign some players that they need.

I need a different source on this.

Because anyone that even suggest Dak could be the best QB in the NFC cannot be taken seriously.

Edit: Good to see he is getting roasted in his replies about this horrible take.

Well anyone like you who said Dak IS a bum, but failed miserably for about 9 months now to find me a HOFer, current or former players, coaches and GMs who said he IS a bum...

And also someone like you who run and hide after wins, but show your face on the board after losses DEFINITELY can't be taken seriously.

I heard your favorite hotel to frequent is Coward Johnson's....

You do this dishonestly. Because you want it said EXACTLY as you type it.

Because you've seen this:

"This kid has basically carried this team the past three years," Faulk said of Elliott, before suggesting Prescott will be a "bum" once he gets paid and criticizing the Cowboys' recent decision to reward another player with a big-money extension.

That's HOFer Marshall Faulk correctly predicting Dak will be a bum once he gets paid, but because he didn't specifically say "Dak is a bum" you discredit it.

Do you think anyone cares if YOU take them seriously? You're one of about 5 posters on this site that's opinions aren't taken seriously because they're just full of emotion and name calling.

You can call the Cowboys a lot of things but cheap isn't one of them. They spend their capspace just like every other team. They just spent a massive amount of money in signing bonuses (Dak, Zeke, Dlaw, Lael, Jaylon, etc.) a few years ago.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cap/2022/

According to that, Dallas had $32m in dead cap last year which is money spent in the past which came due after the player left.

If you want to bash the Cowboys, bash them for overspending on their guys and then immediately regretting it (Lael, Jaylon, Jarwin, Cooper, etc.)
