The Cowboys may have found their bookend DE's

Mayowa has more potential than I thought. Maybe we look for an edge rusher but realistically find another 3 maybe a 1/3 DT. Like Taco, Lawrence, and Mayowa. I haven't given up totally on Gregory either although very long shot. He's had enough therapy he may surprise people IF he can still play which I think he can given a season to readjust.

Add Irving in the middle and our DL is in better shape than it has been for quite some time

Irving is a 5/3 more than a 3/5. JMO. But the key is versatile. We have two who can line up 7/9. We should probably concentrate on cover LB, S and CB on D. Swing tackle and WR on O outside receiving TE agains 6-5+ and fast. There are more of those latter around than previously. Add Hanna, Witten, and Rico and you have 4 good TEs. Add a scat back and I mean someone fast who can receive as well as carry while breaking arm tackles. Harder to find these days but you can find in R2-5 esp 3-4.

Musts......WR1, Swing Tackle, Cover LB
Needs......FS, WR2/3, WR field stretcher
Wants......Hybrid TE, RB3, CB, edge rusher wherever you find him

One of the positives out of this season is I'm stating to believe the Cowboys may have finally found two quality starting DEs for the future. Assuming Lawrence has turned a corner and not just playing for a contract and, of course, Taco continues to develop.

I just couldn't help thinking as I watched Taco play well down the stretch that this team's days searching for edge pressure are over. They still have work to do inside but the edges may be in better shape than it's been in years, in terms of starting players.

A lot of people have pointed out the two rookie corners and their future. Can't argue with that, they both look legit to me, but I'm more focused on the dogs that hunt. Lawrence was a revelation this year. The arrow is up on Taco and his skill set really is a perfect compliment on the other side.

Who agrees with me? Who thinks I'm just being an insufferable homer once again?
With the way he finished, Taco's trajectory looks very similar to Lawrence who closed his rookie year strong and followed up with a very good 8 sack season the next year.

Lets just hope he can avoid the lost year Lawrence had in year 3

This is like homework.

Lawrence is my RE, of course. Irving starts at the 3 and plays all over really. I would hope the starting 1 isn't on the roster right now.
I think Lawrence is the RDE because he is the better player right now. If Taco can grow into a 10 sack capable player, I think he isntuw better fit at RDE. There are alot similarities in athletic profile to players like Hardy and JPP. Taco would have the strength and quickness to be able to attack out of a 7 gap in a consistent basis.

Lawrence offers up somewhat of a unicorn at the left side. He has the power to play a close gap in the run game and rush through it, and he is almost unblockable when we split him wide in an 8 or 9 gap on the left side. In 2015, thats how he made his money in the second half of the season with Hardy. He did it this year too, but he was much more capable of rushing from more diverse gaps. Wasnt just that he was healthy, he made a huge leap as an overall player

Shouldn't stop us from jumping at the chance if some good pass rusher like Landry falls to us in the draft however. NYG and Denver both won SBs recently by having an abundance of pass rushing. This of course also goes without saying that our success will still ultimately depend on getting a decent, imaginative DC that isn't a walking dinosaur.

honestly I can't tell if you are being sarcastic. assuming you're not, I agree

Need to sign/draft a legitimate updrade at DT. Poe, Logan and Jernigan were all available this past offseason. Must jump on the opportunity if a similar quality player is available this year (2018). Then preferably draft another DE in the 2nd-4th round. Gotta be realistic and accept that the team won't draft another DE in the 1st after Taco last year, franchising Lawrence and placing a 1st round tender on Irving.

I haven't even looked at a FA list yet but I want LBs. I'd be very interested in a WR too.
I can agree with you there. Seems like the backup receivers will get some playing time Sunday. Not sure it will help much but either way I think receiver is an issue we need to look at.

I think if an edge pass rusher drops to them and is the best player on their board they should take him and not look back.

Lawrence is playing lights out right now, but he will be expensive to keep, has injury history and has been suspended.

Taco started off slow but does seem to be improving of late. That's too small of a sample size to conclude that he is the answer at DE.

I also think both of these guys are strong side ends. Having said that it looks better now than it has in some time.

Poe and Logan just signed 1-year contracts...
