I don't know about that. They did manage to get drafted coming from some big campuses where they could smoke literally anytime they wanted.

It's a different level in the pros though,,, and you're supposed to be a professional putting in maximum effort.

Yea, I know it'll never happen, but what's Goodell going to do when a third of the league is suspended? The fans will be outraged and the league will have to react. Goodell and company can act as pious as they want, but when all is said and done, it's a league that's first and foremost about generating $$$$

I respect your decision in not ever having experimented with illegal drugs, but have you ever consumed alcohol in your life? That too was illegal at one point and yet no one thinks twice about it these days. There are approximately 88,000 alcohol related deaths in the U.S. annually (compared to ZERO marijuana related deaths), and yet the NFL freely advertises it during their broadcasts. What sort of message is being sent to our youth when they air these commercials that make it seem so cool?

May I ask where your stance on marijuana stems from? It's my belief that a lot of people's opinion of it is because they are simply told it's "bad", but please realize there was a lot of politics as to why it was banned in the first place and why so many are opposing the legalization of it to this day (mostly money related).

I hear you, I do drink, even before I was of legal age. The only issue I have with weed, is that it's illegal. If it was legal, I'd probably try it. As a matter of fact, I believe it should be legalized. Hell, now that I'm retiring and don't have to worry about losing my job I might give it a whirl. Lol

I'm pretty naive about this subject, but being around football for 41 years as a player and coach and having been around many HS, college and pro football players. I do know that many of them LOVE to party and feel invincible even before they get high. Those responsible people you talk about had to survive their youth without getting arrested for use or possession, if not they may not have their current job to work hard at.
I've worked hard all my life and did my fair share of partying that I was lucky enough to survive. I enjoy relaxing with a tall cold drink or two or even three in the privacy of my own home. Pick your poison. If you can control it. Salud! Or is it puff puff pass. Lol

I do agree with you that the danger mainly comes from the legality of it. Just pointing out the fact that just because someone likes to smoke pot when they don't have money means they're likely to pursue harder stuff when they do have money isn't necessarily true. Some personality types will, of course, but it's more likely they're just prone to getting high, whatever their substance of choice

You're right, I had a cousin that never drank, but got hooked on Coke. Had to go to rehab. Luckily he turned it around.

With whom are the fans going to be outraged? If that actually happened I'd be mad at the players & NFLPA and stop caring about the NFL. I've already done this with MLB since the strike in 1994. I'm not interested in watching a league that caters to ideological activist demanding their way or bust. If those are the options then I choose bust.

Outraged at the league. People love their sports and when their favorite players start falling like dominoes, they're going to react. And I see things a little differently in that I think the league is catering to the political and corporate worlds rather than best interest of the players.

My problem with marijuana is that it's still illegal in most states. That's where it can become an issue and a distraction. You get caught buying it or in possession you can get arrested, even if you aren't under the influence.

You should look again. More than half the states allow at least medical marijuana.

That's exactly right. And beer companies have a lot of influence on the NFL as well. Factor in big pharma, and the police and prison guards union, there's a lot of politics and money funneled into keeping the marijuana prohibition alive.

IMO, people don't love their sport that much. It's a simple rule to comply with. If a player has so much of a problem they can't complying then they don't need to be playing. If it's a third of the league then those players jeopardize the survival of the league.
