exactly. Look at the Rams . They really screwed the pooch.
agree...and its there own dang fault. They were inept in doing business that. I think the arrogance of Mcvey may end him in LA too. Moves like that get lots of folks fired.A great example, especially with that Jalen Ramsey deal. They gave up two 1st round picks for the player, without getting a long term extension done.
Know what happens now? They have no bargaining leverage and have to give the player anything and everything he wants in a new contract. That GM will be fired as a result of that mistake. Mark it down.

mcvey gets too cute for his own good and they still haven't recovered and likely wont until he's gone. Sometimes change is needed to move things forward. He can learn from those mistakes at his next stop, when that day happens. I don't see them doing much at all this year. Their best player on offense is Cooper Cupp IMO. That's telling.Well I don't think the wunderkind has been the same since the Super Bowl, where the Patriots nearly shut him out. In fact, I think it goes right back to the Bears figuring out that he was feeding Goff information through the headset until it gets cut off before the next play. They now disguise coverages until that point, and Goff and the offense have never been the same since.
he also authored the Roy Williams Trade. and giving up two for Joey Galloway speaks of his idiocy in value of Galloway...Joey Galloway took away 2 1st rounders...fifteen years ago.
Jerry authored the Herchel Walker trade as well...
Think that Jerry doesn't full well know values of trades now?
doing this would be very much like the amari trade, you get 1 year then have to pay them big to keep them.
and they would be in same position of having to pay whatever he wants, or lose the player and the picks you gave up to get him.
Not a smart thing unless you think this would help you win a SB this coming season, and it is a season which possibly wont happen.
I dont think it is a smart move.
paying two first would be absolutely dumb....That is 100% correct.
I love him as a player and think he would immediately step up and lead this defense....one which desperately needs a leader....
But they want a LOT for him. Not just a first.
I would say two firsts would probably do it.
Maybe a 1st a 3rd and Gallup.
Maybe Zack Martin and a late pick.
He isnt going to be cheap at all. Cost prohibitive in fact. They cant sell one first round pick to the fan base, who expects to contend for a WC berth this year. He is their best player.
I wouldn't give a first at all. take that out of the equation and if that means they won't trade, then great, we move on.Would'nt mind if it was like a 1st and a 5th or so. I dont see them going after a safety though now with haha
wait, on the one hand we tout probowls for adams, on the other hand when people mention Dak made probowls people dismiss it...I am confused (sarcasm)….Here's some financial details from a real writer:
There’s a litany of paths in these high-stakes negotiations, but here’s the best road for the heartbeat of the franchise: A three-year, fully guaranteed $54 million extension to tack on to his existing two years.
Adams is scheduled to earn $3.5 million in the fourth year of his rookie contract. The Jets will pick up the fifth-year option. Under terms of the proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement that’s on track to be voted on in the coming week or so, fifth-year options are no longer tied to draft position. Instead, a player, who has made at least two Pro Bowls in his first three seasons, will get the guaranteed amount of the franchise tag value. The tag for safeties is roughly $12.7 million.
So, Adams is set to make about $16 million in 2020 and 2021. That jumps to about $70 million over five years when you include the three-year fully guaranteed extension. The Falcons employed a similar strategy before the 2019 season by giving Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones a three-year, guaranteed $66 million extension (with $64 million guaranteed at signing) with two years left on his existing deal. Atlanta essentially moved the money in those two years to the back end of the five-year window.

So you're talking about giving up your 1st round pick this year for the 'privilege' of having to reset the safety salary market. For a strong safety at that.
Not smart, on so many levels.
Guess it is possible although don't see how improves CB position or DE position nor cap because going to have to extend Adam's. He would be a force at SS but just not enough to improve to an elite defense. The Dallas Cowboys should go all-in for safety Jamal Adams
https://thelandryhat.com/2020/04/04/dallas-cowboys-go-safety-jamal-adams/
The Dallas Cowboys should go all-in to trade for all-pro Jets safety Jamal Adams this offseason. Securing Adams would be an immediate boost to the defense.
When the Dallas Cowboys were unable to finalize a trade at the deadline of this past season for New York Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams, there was speculation from people surrounding the organization that the topic would re-emerge in the offseason.
CowboyMaven’s Mike Fisher recently mentioned that he believes the Cowboys would be willing to offer a high draft pick in exchange for the star safety before the draft if they sense the Jets and Adams cannot reach an extension.
If the Cowboys can trade their first-round selection, the 17th overall pick, in the upcoming NFL draft for Adams, they should jump on the offer with no hesitation. The Jets originally wanted more than the Cowboys first-rounder during the season, resulting in the negotiations coming to an end. If the Jets sense they cannot reach a long-term agreement with Adams, they may be willing to lower their asking price...
The once was just 2 years ago, so that would be twice in a short period. Besides that, the guy you trade for 1st rounder for isn’t the only one to pay. There are plenty of others to pay that will eat up a large share of the salary cap without having to give up a 1st round draft pick (or more) to do it. When you add another high prices player to that, while at the same time eliminating the chance to get a top player on a rookie salaries, that exacerbates the problem. In general, no, you can't keep doing it. We've done it once. We can get away with it again. But no, it's not something we can continue to do routinely.

so no, he doesn't know value of a trades by now

I agree with that completely, and I would love to have Adams, but that doesn’t change the fact that teams don’t have an unlimited ability to trade for and pay whovever they would like to have, and if they don’t carefully manage the salary cap they can do more harm than good. All of this is true. But there is a level of certainty and a specific quality of player that you are almost assured of getting. You aren't getting a player of Adams ability at 17...highly unlikely
It just flat out cant be done. It's not good business.
Let's be honest...its NOT the final piece of the puzzle on this team.
The issue with him vs. McKinney is the old Let's Make a Deal dilemma.
Adam's is a handful of cash and McKinney may be canned salmon! We don't know.
