We probably have two months left with the quy who Parsons called a "father figure" the other day. I don't envy Quinn's replacement because the current locker room seems deeply connected to him on a personal level. I hope Jerry Jones realizes the urgency of the moment. The guy who hired Rob Ryan, Monte Kiffin, Rod Marinelli, and Mike Nolan finally struck gold on a DC hire. I don't care about the future, we have to go all in on winning now before this man leaves.
I hope the time is more like three and a half months, i.e., February 12th...

the good thing is that we have several in house candidates if he does leave. Edwards and Whitt are experienced and highly respected and are getting calls elsewhere for DC positions. even durde and harris are doing really well developing guys.

He pay resembles a head coach rather than just a coordinator. If Jerry is smart, he pays DQ whatever he asks for this offseason to keep him around. Wherever the guy goes as a defensive coordinator, the unit turns into something special. First the legendary Legion of Boom defenses, and now we may have our own version of the Legion of Boom forming right before our eyes.

I also would not take it for granted that DQ wants to even go be a head coach anywhere. He seems like he excels in the defensive coordinator spot and might acknowledge that himself.

Parsons has outright said he's going where DQ goes. If the Cowboys want to keep Parsons, they will work something out with DQ. Personally, I don't like the OC and I don't think MM brings a ton to the table.. so I'd fire MM, pay DQ what he wants and let him bring in his own OC, can only be an improvement.

I will admit that McCarthy has been better than I expected he would be as head coach. He's changed a few performance patterns that had been in place with the Cowboys going back even before the Garrett years.

At the end of the day though you have to ask, is the team better with McCarthy and a Quinn-less defense or is it better with Quinn as head coach with his defense and a new offensive scheme.

I feel bad because McCarthy is not a bad coach or a bad guy, but the defense has failed the Cowboys so many times, especially at key moments, going back many years. If forced to choose, I would choose to keep the defense over the offense.

The Cowboys have basically had the same offense for the last 15 years. If this season ends without a Super Bowl appearance, I think it is finally time to accept that it is time to move on from the offense.

Sure, the next OC may be bad, but they may also be great and bring excitement back to the offensive players and do for the offense what Quinn has done with the defense.
I would take Quinn over McC; however, the team has to perform poorly enough for McC to be fired or Quinn has to be OK with him being fired in order to keep him on as HC. I am not sure he would be OK with that.

No one knows what is in his heart because he has just about erased the being fired as a HC with his success as a DC and the job I think he really wants, Seattle, may not open up this off season. We also do not know about the relationship between McC and Quinn but Quinn has spoken highly of McC several times.

There is an unwritten rule in coaching, they do not interview for jobs while there is a HC employed. Cowher mentioned that and several echoed it. I wonder how that applies to this situation if Booger is faced with losing Quinn if he doesn't give him the HC job and would Quinn even go for that?

Dan was ok HC but he is top of the line DC. He smart to follow the money and not a HC job. Jerry can pay him HC pay and keep him at DC. Up to Dan.

Dan Quinn cannot be a "window". Either a team is built right or it's not, and losing an assistant coach cannot be the reason a team fails.
Mike McCarthy is the "window", and supposedly having a franchise quarterback who leads the team is a "window"
While not having a true franchise quarterback can be overcome, not having a true head coach cannot.
In great teams, all of the other parts must be interchangeable. Injuries cannot derail great teams, but the head coach must provide the leadership and instill the drive in his team that keeps them at a consistent level of performance.
So, too,the quarterback must also provide the caliber of play and leadership that keeps players focused and believing in their cause.
I think McCarthy is coming into his own and the Cowboys are beginning to feel his leadership.
As far as quarterback, the Cowboys are still coming up short in that area, but McCarthy, along with Kellen Moore's help, may be able to keep enough consistency in the Cowboys offense to overcome their limitations.

Just have to note this before people get too aggressive with the Quinn as a HC hate:

Super bowl appearances in the last 25 years:
Dallas 0
Quinn 1

Record and super bowl appearances in first head coaching job
Quinn 43-42 1SB
Belichick 36-44 0SB

If Dallas wins a super bowl this year I would still fire McCarthy and hire Quinn if faced with losing Quinn.

If Jerry can somehow keep Quinn for the defense and bring in Payton as HC and straighten out the offense (along with the cash rich cap to get a few players) this team would be a contender for a while

How do we know he leaves? Last year no one thought he would be back for 2022.

He has one of the most talented defensive units in the league, and jerry willing to write blank checks.

Maybe he really wants to be a HC again, but who knows for sure?

I don't see any very desirable jobs coming available this offseason. Last year was the year. I honestly don't see Quinn leaving unless for Pete Carroll retires or maybe the doofus in San Diego gets fired.

Sam Diego would be the one that would be interesting, but I also wonder if that wouldn’t be a perfect spot for a Sean Payton too, or up and coming offensive guru.

I predict DQ becomes the highest paid coordinator in the NFL
and becomes the next Dick LeBeau, or at least Wade Phillips.
