here are some 3-cone drill #s

Gaines Adams-7.17
CJ Ah You-7.06
Dan Bazuin-7.09
Adam Carriker-7.06 good gawd
Tim Crowder-7.28
Charles Johnson-7.5
Jay Moore-7.19
Quentin Moses-7.38
Brian Robison-6.89 good gawd, that's only .03 seconds slower than Ware's
Anthony Spencer-7.14
Tim Crowder-7.28
I'd take either one w/ our 2nd rounder; I prefer Crowder because I believe he has a little better instincts BUT I want either one in the 2nd round.....

I've read he's also known as a workout warrior. I just don't understand why people can have such incredible physical ability, yet disappear in the game.

He's a backup 3-4 OLB/ILB to me.

Wouldn't be interested before 3.

Anyone have Dan Bazuin's workout #'s?

Maybe it's the intangibles, like instincts?

Not saying Robison does or doesn't have them, but I guess that's what differentiates guys with similar physical abilities.

I mean, let's say one LB is marginally faster/quicker than another. But the slightly slower LB doesn't take false steps, can more quickly diagnose the play, has a "feel" for the game, how much is that worth in terms of tenths of a second? I'd guess a heck of a lot.

I think teams fell asleep on Crowder on the other side.

For 3 years he was known as a run stopping LDE.

Maybe teams shaded towards Robison knowing Crowder was 3 sack guy in 2005.

Crowder had 10.5 this year.
I believe BOTH will shine in the NFL as 3-4 OLBs. Played DEs in UTs 4-3 D but I believe better suited to the 3-4. Did what asked of them in college but are primed to elevate in the pros....

Bazuin wasn't very impressive at all. If we don't take an OLB in the 1st or 2nd we absolutely must take DeOssie in the 3rd. If we don't the Patriots certainly will. Heck, they may take him in the 2nd. I certainly wouldn't be upset if we took him in the 2nd.

Dan Bazuin:

Height - 6'3"
Weight - 266
40 Time - 4.77
20 Time - 2.75
10 Time - 1.59
Reps - 25
Vert - 30
Broad - 9'1"
Shuttle - 4.75
Cone - 7.09

Right. It's just a disappointing waste of physical talent. Who knows, maybe the guy would be more productive standing up.

Brian Robison/Anthony Spencer

Height - 6'3'/6'3"
Weight - 259/261
40 Time - 4.67/4.70
20 Time - 2.65/2.74
10 Time - 1.49/1.64
Reps - 27/30
Vert - 40.5/32.5
Broad - 10'1"/9'4"
Shuttle - 4.26/4.43
Cone - 6.89/7.14

Robison had a very nice Combine.

Both these guys are going to be very good pros. Too bad Robison isn't quite good enough to be picked at #22, he sure would make a nice bookend with Ware. Spencer reminds me alot of a guy whose going to get a gazillion through FA this year Adalius Thomas.

Unless the pass-rusher is unblocked, I'd say the three-cone drill is probably more important.

exactly i dont pay much attention to 40 times for DL or LB. let me know the cone times and ill show my happiness based on those times

LaMarr Woodley is the guy that remind me of Adalius Thomas.

Bazuin is either a bust Babin/MAC style or he's a football player with instincts and a relentless motor.

4.77 isn't the end of the world at 266.

4.75 shuttle is slower than any OL I saw.

If only Parcells were still here... ;) Pretty sure Steve played for him after the Cowboys let him go.

Robison is not just a workout warrior. I saw every game he and Crowder started, and there's no question in my mind that Robison was the better player. Crowder is a nice, solid defensive end who is sort of like a poor man's Greg Ellis. Robison is an explosive athlete who makes big plays. I don't think either is a future Pro Bowler, but Robison would be a much better fit for the Cowboys than Crowder, who I don't think can be an effective linebacker in the NFL.

The Belichecks and DeOssies are family friends. Belicheck tutored Zak when he was in high school (as a QB). He went to many of his games in college and in high school. His workout probably justified Belicheck taking him in the 2nd.

They want him in 2 they can have him.

From what I've seen and read his a 4-3 SLB.

Good in coverage but not very physical.

He's a very fast Greenway/Fujita IMO.

I've read just the opposite. He was basically miscast as an ILB and will project to DE/OLB rush specialist in the pros.

Negatives: Better athlete than football player. Doesn't play with the physicality or hand usage to remain at the inside linebacker position at the next level. Struggles to protect his knees due to his rare height for the position, and doesn't use his hands to disengage from blocks.

Not physical enough as 4-3 ILB equals no dice anywhere in 3-4.

Can he learn it? Sure but he'd be a 2-3 year project taking Fowler's spot or he'd be the 4th OLB.

We need an Ellis insurance pass rusher.

Don't forget to post the first part of that same analysis:
Rare combination of size and speed. Has the frame to be considered as a rush linebacker...

Because the postives absolutely make no sense given the negatives.

Positives: Rare combination of size and speed. Has the frame to be considered as a rush linebacker, defensive end or even tight end. At his best when he can target the ball carrier and use his surprising speed. Good overall athleticism in coverage. Reads the action well and has a quick burst to make plays on the ball. Good hands. Handled long-snapping chores on 2006.

Doesn't play with physicality or hand usage and struggles to protect his knees/use hands to disengage from blocks.

Sound like a defensive end or rush linebacker to you?

It makes sense when you realize they're saying he wouldn't make a good ILB at the next level.
