Manning = completely predictable

Romo = completely unpredictable

But both are good and get it done

Remember both Manning and Romo play in offensive systems designed specifically to take advantage of their talents. Most OC would prefer to have something close to what Manning plays in. Romo's timing offense is somewhat similar but plays off Romo's personality which is very much attack attack attack. Romo would have problem in the conservative Parcells system if he continue play in it much longer. It would sapp his confidence after a while when he'd make a play that made Parcells uncomfortable. On the other hand, I think Parcells really liked Romo's play but he was too old to change his view of how it should be played.

I was thinking about it, and I think the difference might be that Peyton Manning is a student of the game. By that, I mean that Peyton's success is due to knowing how to read the defense, knowing who's going to be where and when, knowing when to trust his receivers and when to play it safe, etc.

Meanwhile, Romo is a player with incredible instincts. He may not always know exactly where a defensive player will be or what he's going to do, but once the ball is snapped, his instincts take over and he can make decisions quickly.

I guess what I'm saying is that while Peyton excels in knowing what's going to happen before the snap, Romo does his thing after the snap.

This is not to say I don't think Romo puts in a lot of work before games, but it just seems to me that he plays much more in the moment, kind of like Favre, I guess. Which also means that while Romo does his thing well, there will be at least a couple of throws where everyone will go, "What was that?"

I'm also well aware that Peyton has years of proving himself, so I'm not saying Romo is Peyton by any stretch.

What do you guys think?

I have read that ROMO is studying all the time......:cool:

Arr. Because Pirates keep such careful genealogical records.

He didn't say he could trace his family back to Blackbeard, but to the "days of Blackbeard". So can most people but your point was pretty funny.

Edward Teach (AKA Blackbeard) lived from @1660-1718 and worked mostly in the Caribbean and off the North Carolina coast.

I can trace my lineage (on my father's side) back to William Bradford (Governor of the Plymouth Colony) 1590-1657 and the Mayflower and even earlier in England.

I think both a very good at making the quick reads and finding the open man. The main difference I see is Peyton has the stronger arm and Romo is more elusive.
