I always start with, "I'm calling to inquirw about what I have to do to cancel service." I then wait for the beautiful, magic words "Why do you want to cancel?" When I hear those words, I know I'm in.

Who else offers ST? Wouldn't that be leverage, if you don't offer a better deal I will go with ______

That's just it- no one... DTV has and has had an exclusive rights contract with the NFL for Sunday Ticket. It's pretty much the only reason the majority of subscribers have DTV, and they know that.

Yep. If DTV dropped the Sunday Ticket, I'd likely get rid of DTV and use another provider.

Haven"t seen anything posted here on this yet so thought I would comment. Made the annual phone call to Direct TV to plead poverty over the price of the football package. I got the full package for free again...so folks, call away.

they gave me half off :(

Last season I made my yearly call. Usually it is a game of chicken that, as others have said, gets me at least 50% off and a reduction somewhere else on my bill. I am usually willing to see who blinks first and it has always worked for me. Last year the only thing they offered me was $5 off per month for six months. I told them to cancel and they did. Week one I was out of town and watched the game in a sports bar, so that wasn't bad. Before the next game, I called to see how bad they wanted me back and the only thing they offered me was $7 a month for six months. I couldn't believe it. I do have the East Coast Fox and ABC channels with the West Coast LA channels grandfathered in to my package (I am in the SF Bay area). I got all but two games on my existing package. Planned on calling this week to see about getting it for free.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Last year when my contract was up, I was able to get free Sunday Ticket, 3 months free movie channels and nearly every channel for $60 a month. Best part was I only did a one-year extension, so my contract is up again this year and I'm going to call this week.

Thanks for the reminder OP.

1-800-531-5000......after confirming security questions I said "Cancel service". I was redirected to a "retention specialist" Sometimes you have to call back 2-3 times until you get the right person.

Everything you said is 100% correct. Don't get what you want on the first call, call back until you get the right person. chances are you'll succeed.

Does Direct TV offer internet service as well or do you need to use a separate company?

They do a bundle service with CenturyLink (and Verizon wireless).

For the first time in years I didn't have Sunday Ticket last year. I called over the weekend to renew this year, but my call was originally about using a free upgrade to the wireless genie equipment. After getting that squared away, the call guy asked if I was interested in an HBO/Showtime package, and I said nah, I'd be more interested in Sunday Ticket. He said let me check what rate I can get you, and came back with $59 for 6 months -- but he offered a $30 credit applied for 12 months, and also threw in a random $3 monthly credit for 12 months, and a $5 credit for 6 months. So the Sunday Ticket package more than pays for itself over a 12-month cycle.

By upgrading my equipment I had to agree to a near 2-year deal, which I think was the reason I was offered the $30 credit. He started tacking on the others as I asked if there was anything else he could do.

I had Sunday Ticket for years and loved it and I still prefer DirecTV's menu etc.., but when I moved I went with the fastest internet available and the basic tv that came with it.

I live in the DFW market so of course it's easier, but there are so many nationally televised games I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Especially a team like Dallas, with Thanksgiving Monday/Sunday night games and several big 3:00 games at least 8-10 are national.

I wish they had a streaming only option.

This only works if you don't have the 2 year contract for free equipment upgrade.

EDIT: I did get 20% off, but I'm sure when I let the contract expire, I will have more leverage.

Yeah, I screwed up last year when I moved. I got new equipment and thus a contract. Leverage will be limited, but I'll see what I can do. I haven't paid for 4 or 5 years now.

I am still waiting for NFL Ticket to release details of this seasons streaming only options.
Last year you have to be a college student at certain universities, or live in an apartment in certain markets ect.
Hopefully they have some easy way to trick the systems again. Otherwise I will have to buy the European game pass.

They still have the student discount for 99$. If you are able to pay in bitcoins, NFL2GO is a nice option for 20 bucks

Never had a single problem with my Direct TV. They moved me fine & I have never even needed them for a service call.

I'll never switch!

Just called for my second time. Last time I was getting the Max for 160. This time they offered me either that or regular package for 240 and a 20$ credit for 1 year. No contract and HBO, Cinemax, and showtime for 3 months free.

I took it
