The Doldrums

I call this time in the NFL off-season calendar “The Doldrums”. Post draft and free agency, post OTAs and mini-camps but before training camp and pre-season games. It’s the most boring time of the NFL calendar.

And what makes “The Doldrums” period worse IMO is the avalanche of click bait fluff pieces by the margins of NFL media types.

Every draft pick, trade candidate, recovering injured player and new head coach is spoken of in extremes. They are either guaranteed HOFers, ahead of schedule in recovery, or the other extreme, “they all suck.” And most of the “writers” making this stuff know, if their story is on the edge of extreme, fans will click.

We can survive “The Doldrums”! Because we are all hungry for football we are vulnerable for some bad media. So the key to survival - for me anyway - is to patiently wait for September before declaring any player or coach or team a guaranteed anything.

We are 73 days away from REAL football. We can survive “The Doldrums”! In the meantime, beware of click bait, lol!

The doldrums are over for me when training camp starts.

yeah dead time for nfl, got no use for clickbait stuff, so just check in here once a day.
Waiting for PS games, just to see new guys.

..me & Jerry go back long ways. I introduced him to Cali steak burger, topped with Onion Rings. ..;)
If you see Jerry at TC, don’t ask for an autograph…ask him for a big favor. His retirement.

I agree there are too many negative stories being spun by the media this time of year. Meanwhile, Tyler Booker is back in here in his home state (CT) hosting a youth football camp this weekend.

In case anyone is wondering what our top draft pick is doing with his off time! :starspin:

How do you know they can’t stop the run? You don’t. You’re taking the pessimistic view on every single aspect. Horrible way to be IMO.
Well. It’s been a problem for a decade. Who have they brought in to help in that aspect this offseason?

Jay Toia?

Come on man. You can be optimistic and still a little objective. This team did nothing of note to control the line of scrimmage on the defensive side of the ball. I love the they got in the second, but he’s a pass rusher, so is Williams, so is Micah (not his fault the team is using him solely like that). Mazi smith has been terrible. Toia is a rookie, osa is also a pass rusher not exactly great against the run. Nothing to they have done says they care about stopping the run. Like at all. How can you straight faced ask me how I know they can’t stop the run?

Because they didn’t do anything to improve that facet of the team.

We don’t have any idea how this team will be. But this off season has been far more uplifting than last year. And gives us something to look forward to as TC and the season starts. Even if to see how they improve as the year goes along. That is the fun of watching seasons unfold. No mater if you like the team or hate the team.

Chances are they will be good, and can contend for a playoff spot.
They were a good team making the playoffs 3 years in a row. With injuries derailing the team last year. When they were considered a favorite to win the NFCE in spite of the off season inactivity.

They lost players and replaced players since those playoff seasons. But the basic core stayed the same even with the same type of players they brought in to replace the ones lost.

However with a good draft, and now with Pickens there is no reason to think they can’t be a winning team. Maybe not a SB contender yet, but just make the playofffs where anything can and will happen.

Of course many will not agree with that. Mainly because they just do not want to, they can’t think positive things can happen.

Because we don’t buy what this FO is selling.

Are you seriously just echoing the injury excuse that the FO did? You realize they said that because it was easier than saying “we set Mike up to fail to get him for less years” right?

They got you hook line and sinker.

Nothing about this offseason should have fans excited. Especially the head coaching search they did.

The only way this team makes the playoffs is if another few teams have major injuries. Otherwise, this team is on the outside looking in, probably winning games they shouldn’t just to mess up draft position. As per usual.

With all that being said.

The things I’m excited to see.

Adams offense
Reilly o line.
Milton
I have a feeling Murray is going to surprise people.

Problem is
I am not excited to see this team get run over on the ground all season. That happens, the offense being good won’t matter. And they did absolutely nothing to help that problem this off season. Still cheap at the DT position.

How does Pickens and this new look offense help a team when they lose TOP every game?

Can you answer that?

Just the type of answer I expected.

Yeah.

what an amazing response.

Exactly what I was expecting.
How am supposed to respond. Anything I post you will be against it as usual. You can’t acknowledge this team that has won games, can win again if stay healthy, like all teams.

Not going to waste my time. I already explained my thoughts about it.

What was their record last year before Dak went down? Before the injuries…

You also obviously ignored my positive notes.

LOL, you gotta love YouTube:

"Cowboys Set to Dominate!"

"The Cowboys are About to be Unstoppable!"

"Cowboys have NFL's Scariest Offense - Eagles Should be Worried!"

"The Dallas Cowboys Are Outsmarting the NFL!"

"Dallas Cowboys are Building a Sleeper Super Bowl Team!"

"Cowboys OTAs are Sparking Fear Across the NFL!"

You also think Dez and Mingo are the same player.

Stop saying this. It isn’t.

Sorry it is. However the only way this happens is with the injury bug not hitting the cowboys, and the injury bug hitting all of our opponents.

Only chance this team has at double digits.

They still can’t stop the run, and they are playing 10 teams that were playoff teams last year. What’s their record against those teams in say the last decade?
He’s built like Dez.

22 bench reps for a WR is impressive.

Sub 4.5 speed.

Now he has to play like him.

And put the puff pieces for "Schotty" at the top. I'm not saying he hasn't made an impression...but again...their original plan was to stick with McCarthy...so how impressive could he have been sitting there all this time on the team?

And do you think anyone was praising the culture in NE when Belichick took over? I bet players were somewhere between pissed and pleased...but the results speak for themselves. Players saying nice things about the new coach is par for the course.
Giving Shotty a chance.

But the place will turn on him if we start bad.
