The downfall of the Southwest Conference: A College Football Story

I played in the SWC and was clueless as to what was going on in the background.
We did know politics played a massive part in things.
Same, played baseball at Texas towards the end of the conference. I didn’t know there was problems either :muttley:

when you think about it, there really was no good reason this happened.

I got in UT school of engineering, but they didn't offer me even a PWO spot.
Tech gave me half academic(tuition), half athletic (room and board) ride so I took that.

SWC doesn’t need to worry. At the rate it’s going, feels like there will only be a few conferences soon.

Or only two... At least at the top level.
I really do not see that happening. There are going to be four or five.
one super conference makes no sense and also means many fewer conference championship games and more games that mean nothing
and THAT will reduce revenues which is all that matters to those running things

I think it'll be basically like the NFC with its two conferences. Probably the SEC and the Big Ten.

The rest of the schools can still have their leagues and their championship games, but most people won't care about them.

Still too many. Legitimate contending programs you are looking at around fifty. Just too many for even two conferences.

Maybe four twelve team conferences each with two six team divisions

Fifty teams that can win the national championship? There aren't even 20.

dude, there will be that many wanting to try.
Schools thinking they want to go up against the big dogs.
Get it?
Does it matter that they'll want to? It's only going to matter what espn wants.

Unfortunately, this is all about money now. They're going to maximize every dollar they can, and that'll be by putting lesser programs in their own separate league.

I hope you're right, though. I don't like what's happening and has already happened. It's just what I think they'll do.
