I am pro Brandon Meriweather. He is not the "bad apple" he is being painted on this board and others. The ONLY off field incident he has deals with the shooting outside of his home/apartment where his teammate was shot to death. The police ruled it a legally justified act of defense of self AND others. He was outside his home with a licensed weapon and only discharged after shots were fired at him and his roommate. I am sure teams addressed this in his interviews. Hopefully for him, he was forthright and honest when addressing this matter.

His actions during the FIU brawl was unacceptable as were the actions of EVERY player involved. However, what separates Meriweather from all the others involved in the brawl, is the fact that he is the only person involved to write a letter of apology. He was remorseful after the fact. That showed a great deal of class IMO.

We are not talking about drafting a Pacman Jones here. He is not of that ilk. We won't know if he checks out characterwise until next month but I suspect he will be a 1st rounder and if not in Dallas probably New England or Philly.

I think it showed he had advisors telling him he just slapped the goose that laid the golden egg.

Possibly but a person still needs to be willing to listen to his/her advisor(s) and he obviously was open to the idea. From everything Larry Coker says about him as a person and leader I believe he may have done it through his own volition. I don't know for sure but no one else knows if he was "advised" to do so.

I love it. This has to be one of the most convoluted attempts at logic ever.

I have character issues because I don't have friends who hang out in areas or with people who might get shot, and I don't carry a gun in public areas even though I am licensed to and have plenty of them.

Thank you for the morality lesson.

Ok so you keep showing me that you know absolutely nothing about the incident, but yet you are still more than willing to jude the kid. The shooting happened at his appartment complex less than 5 miles away from the miami campass.

Do you know the specific location and situation where this occurred? i have no idea and if he didnt do anything illegal then im prone to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I know in Florida or wherever he was at you cannot carry even a registered firearm around in public. Thats for Texas.

You sound as if you know something though.

He doesnt though, thats the problem. The incident happened in the parking lot of Meriweather's house, not some night club shooting or anything like that.

I don't care where it happened. I know that he was just defending a friend. Admirable.

He still was in possession of a firearm in public which is a red flag for me. What was he doing with a gun in his pocket?

I am not a gun control freak by any wild stretch of the imagination. But when a group of guys is hanging around and someone walks up and starts shooting, and he can immediately pull a gun and return fire it just doesn't sit well with me. Drugs, or something else was likely involved.

He didn't do anything illegal other than have a concealed weapon. But the circumstances are questionable to me. Why did he have a gun in his pocket if he was at home minding his own business?

When this is combined with the incident where he was involved in not only a brawl but was kicking another man in the head it just is too much for me to push aside.

I don't care if his motives were heroic just like I didn't care when Keith Davis was shot the first time for supposedly trying to "rescue" a friend. When he got waived I agreed with it. If he had got waived after the 2nd time, I would have agreed with it.

Merriweather's story of the incident is similar to Sean Taylor's of his. I've been critical of Taylor. I should be a hypocrite and say Merriweather is justified? I can't do that.

If we select him unless he becomes a Darren Woodson as far as his personal character I will never like him. I want nothing to do with him regardless of his talent and I hope we avoid him like the plague.

so 31 other teams are all seeking 1st rd type talents to play FS or they can give it up?

sorry thats ridiculous

pass rush >>>>>> whoever plays FS, and its not even close

David

31 other teams dont have the worst coverage SS in the NFL on their team. I am not going to argue the importance of a pass rush. Anyone who knows anything about football understands that this is a given. YOU MUST HAVE ONE. I get that. But in order to cover Roy Bleeping Williams horrendous play in coverage, he needs an extremly talented safety to compliment him.

Uh, yeah I do. Never assume what I know and don't know. I do pay attention. Like I said, I don't care where it happened.

I think your selling the young man short. Sure he's no Pacman, but the dude has potential. Let's give him several million dollars and see what type of thug he can blossom into.
