I'm baffled to be honest. McCoy was set to count nearly 12 million against the cap. Murray will count around 5. That's a huge difference. You mean to tell me we couldn't pay him that? Looking at his contract it's really affordable for a player of his stature. Unless he's great he's never going to see the big money that the contract appears show. It's very creatively structured with escalators and bonuses to make it look bigger than it is.

They stole him from us because he was pissed about negotiations. That's the only explanation for why he would sign that team friendly contract just so he can stick it to us.

If he signed only to stick it too us, tells me we didn't need a player like that with that attitude. And they did not steal him from us. JJ & company were the cooler heads and prevailed. For salary cap reasons if not for anything else.
And when Murray fumbles against us, and we get a TD to win the division again, that will be poetic justice.

Everyone says Jerry is coming to his senses in not overpaying. Others say Stephen is taking over or Jerry is listening to him more. I think its neither. I think Jason Garrett has more control than anyone since Jimmy and Jerry is letting him call the shots. That's just my opinion though. I've always thought Garrett was great at evaluating talent and picking the right player. I think Garrett has a plan and is not worried about this season as much as we are......

I don't know, bro. I think Garrett would have ponied up for Murray if it were up to him.

calm down. We wore him out and didn't want to pay for past performance. Move on man.

I love how the media portrays the Cowboys as "running Murray into the ground"...the best of my knowledge is Murray never wanted to come off the field. Which is fine and Garrett loved his toughness.. But let not be naïve. Murray knew exactly what he had to do behind this OL during a CONTRACT YEAR! He wanted to get paid. And boy did he.. I hope the best for him, but I refuse to root for an Eagle.

This is the key....and he won't need to do that again because this is his last contract year.

You do know that McCoy still counts $3.8 million against the Eagles' cap this season, right? They are paying more for a player that will suit up for Buffalo than Dallas is currently paying for their entire backfield. That doesn't include Murray's cap hit, Mathews' cap hit, Sproles' cap hit, and assuming that Polk has signed his tender, his cap hit. That's quite a discrepancy in salary cap allocation between the two teams.

The NFL on Sirius/XM has labeled Chip as a breath of fresh air and an innovater based on was he has done so far this offseason. UMMMMM..............OK? Not seeing it. He's brought in some players to replace good players they already had and got rid of. How is that innovative? Really sick of the Chip Kelly show on every NFL related media outlet right now.

People will tell you Chips a genius, but it sure seems like he is a collage coach operating under a pro salary cap and is not thinking down the road. A lot of his moves are head scratchers, can't get Gore, let's get Murray and Matthews, they are roughly the same. Trade for Bradford whos in the last year of his deal and also throw in a few picks. Over pay a legion of Boom member. Even the Shady deal seems to favour Buffalo.

Unless he pulls another move that blows my skirt up I'm saying he's just throwing poop at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Maybe we should call him CowChip.

He's done us some favors by lowering our cap, raising his, and showing his hand, which looks like he's been bluffing all along.

A program can accomplish a lot simply with discipline, and Chip has plenty of that, maybe to a fault, as these grown men (whose paycheck is bigger than his) may not tolerate much of his boot camp.
But compared to Jimmy, he doesn't have that Psychology degree which was important to Jimmy's art of personal motivation. And he does not yet understand the evaluation of assets at this level.

He's looking like a kid in a candy store, and that's good for us.

Chip just gives them something different to fill their dead air time. They have to create a story where there is none.

I think the only reason they avoided it was because they were able to go cheap at QB the past few years. It seems to me that money would have been better spent upgrading their secondary.

Bingo.

Does anyone here actually think that Murray will run anywhere close to 1,800 yards next season?

I think it could well be below 1,300 yards.

What people do not understand about the Eagles is that they paid because they could. They are risk taking, but I doubt they end up paying for it like Dallas has for their past mismanagement.

They assembled a "dream team" a few years ago and never faced a cap crisis.

Roseman knows how to handle their cap.

Do not make Stephen angry.

It still baffles me that the Eagles paid $8M to a running back that's going to be splitting carries with Matthews and Sproles. I can't believe they wouldn't just draft another RB.

I agree with the article. It was a knee jerk reaction from Kelly because he was catching so much flak over the McCoy and Foles trades. Everyone has calmed down in Philly after the Murray signing, but in a couple of years unless he seriously bucks NFL history this deal could be looked at in hindsight as far worse than either of those moves.

They don't have a playoff win since 2008. Maybe if they spent some of that money they would have done more.

The details of Murray's contract show a very matchable deal

PHI's deal- 5/40m 5m signing bonus 18m guaranteed

Base...........Proration...........Cap Hit
4m....................1m..................5m
7m....................1m..................8m
8m(2m)............1m..................9m
8m....................1m..................9m
8m....................1m..................9m

We could have gone 5/35m 10m signing bonus 18m guaranteed

Base...........Proration...........Cap Hit
2m....................2m..................4m
4m....................2m..................6m
5m(2m)............2m..................7m
6m....................2m..................8m
8m....................2m..................10m

I believe he would've stayed for only 5m less total, only 3m after 3 years

I'm still fine with it. I think that 2017 cap hit and beyond is going to be brutal for a player hitting the wall.
