I'm still fine with it. I think that 2017 cap hit and beyond is going to be brutal for a player hitting the wall.

The cap will be 160m by 2017, we don't have to be so cheap we can't even sign our homegrown MVP. I would rather go to war with our own guys than some never was reclamation project.

It still baffles me that the Eagles paid $8M to a running back that's going to be splitting carries with Matthews and Sproles. I can't believe they wouldn't just draft another RB.

^^^ This^^^ I love DeMarco and I think he has some tread left on those tires, but the Eagles overpaid big time. I don't agree completely with the blogger though, I can kinda see a decent plan here by the Chipster. Multiple good backs that can pound the rock so he can rotate them liberally as they try to run the fast-break offense. IIRC Matthews and Sproles are decent pass catchers too. I like that Chippy is thinking outside of the box and trying new things, it's good for the NFL. Of course we could all live without his unearned smug attitude and hope he fails miserably, but it's going to be interesting!

Does anyone here actually think that Murray will run anywhere close to 1,800 yards next season?

I think it could well be below 1,300 yards.

No, but 1200 and being great at helping to protect your QB, great at being a check down, and being a great leader on and off the field is as good as 1800.

The details of Murray's contract show a very matchable deal

PHI's deal- 5/40m 5m signing bonus 18m guaranteed

Base...........Proration...........Cap Hit
4m....................1m..................5m
7m....................1m..................8m
8m(2m)............1m..................9m
8m....................1m..................9m
8m....................1m..................9m

We could have gone 5/35m 10m signing bonus 18m guaranteed

Base...........Proration...........Cap Hit
2m....................2m..................4m
4m....................2m..................6m
5m(2m)............2m..................7m
6m....................2m..................8m
8m....................2m..................10m

I believe he would've stayed for only 5m less total, only 3m after 3 years

As always, I'd like to be a fly on the wall for these negotiations. I'm sure some the back and forth would be amusing, if not surprising.

That whole thing completely baffles me too. I don't think Chip Kelly is done wheeling & dealing AND, although he says otherwise, I think he is still angling for Mariota.

The point is I think by then Murray will be Eddie George - and not the good Eddie George. He will be dead weight you don't even want on the roster, and be paying a substantial amount for.

In the meantime if we draft a solid back we will be paying relative peanuts for a guy just hitting his prime. Although this coming year might be tough, I would rather be where we are then they are down the road.

From what I read, bk (and you have to take this with a grain of salt considering all the false info floating around at the time) The Cowboys contract number were very similar to what the Eagles signed him to. The rub was the amount of guaranteed money the Cowboys were willing to write into the deal. The actual length and contract total, from what I understand, were almost identical.

Not saying that he will, coult, but if McFadden produced those same numbers this next season (he's already known as an excellent pass blocker) would you concede that the Cowboys made the right move with Murray? Serious question, not trying to get your goat.

That is why I tried to keep the 18m in guarantees equal. The rest is mainly for the agents to argue about. Dallas could have basically offered 3/21m with 18m guaranteed vs Philly giving 3/24m with 18m guaranteed.

I think Murray would have come back for that if they didn't disrespect him with such a poor initial offer. I guess we will never know, but I wanted to keep him since the offense was so strong last year. If they weren't going to spend to fix the D, at least keep the O together.

That's a fair perspective.

If that is true then you are right, no amount of money is worth it. The FO offered 6m, so I think they expected more of repeat of last year. To them it was all about the money.

People will tell you Chips a genius, but it sure seems like he is a collage coach operating under a pro salary cap and is not thinking down the road. A lot of his moves are head scratchers, can't get Gore, let's get Murray and Matthews, they are roughly the same. Trade for Bradford whos in the last year of his deal and also throw in a few picks. Over pay a legion of Boom member. Even the Shady deal seems to favour Buffalo.

Unless he pulls another move that blows my skirt up I'm saying he's just throwing poop at the wall and seeing what sticks.

At least He's adding pieces to their team that will help. And will help not losing guys, hurt as much.

With all these folks saying they can't believe the eagles are spending money on all these players, I have a question. What are we doing to get better? Please don't answer with we are not over paying players. At the end of the day

Absolutely. Not hard for me though. Because I've always been a DMC fan. I sincerely think he can succeed here.

My biggest problem right now is that we are not pursuing big time defensive help. I wanted to keep Murray, and hate that folks can't see what he meant to us. Saying he's worn out, etc. Murray was more than just a guy getting 1800 yards.

But again, my biggest problem with this FO right now is the total lack of a plan to make this defense better. We haven't made this defense better for years now, and it continues to haunt us! We have the flexibility to do anything we want in FA to help this defense. More now since we let Murray walk.

Dallas have brought in a running back and a couple of linebackers to help the depth and pad the roster. Free agency isn't over, declaring the season lost in March is sad.

Chips moves have been erratic and if you can't see that I can't explain it simply enough to comprehend. But let me try.

He let Maclin get away because the price was too rich in a passing league and now has serious questions at receiver. To recap, he let his receiver go when he believed the market was too rich, important to remember that.

Ask yourself this, they were rumored to be shipping their pro bowl Mathis, which would hurt their new power running game, does that sound like a man with a plan or a dog chasing cars?Think he might help Murray? Out of 9 seasons Murray/Matthews have completed only 16 games twice, he paid over market value for both and is trying to trade away the people keeping them off the turf.

They have Bradford in the last year off his deal costing 13 million and if they trade him on it they will forfeit a second round pick. So if he does go off this season he can walk to another team for more money because they have 18 million tied up in running back contracts and they spend two picks on nothing or he has a great year and they have to shell out a big deal a year after splurging on two running backs and a back up QB.

This is what people do when they get drunk and start a Madden franchise.

The E-girls don't have a real #1 WR so all teams have to do is stack the box and neutralize Murray, game over...

i think thats what they are banking on, you either stop Murray and guaranteed home run hitter, or you dare our WR's to torch you. I dont hink the qb mix brings this to fruition, but you cant deny handing it off to Murray will help.
