Do you still play?

If so what axes do you have now.

I remember way back in the late 80's I was going to go and buy my first NEW guitar. Up to that point I had only had a cort strat copy. All in all for a copy it actually did not sound bad but I just never felt comfortable with the thick C neck.

So I do some research, at that time it was just magazines as there was no net for most.

I go around 2 hours away and find a store that had two guitars in my price range at the time.

Both were more of entry level guitars.

One was a Charvel and the other a kramer.

Each were imports, each had One cheap factory humbucker and a licensed floyd.

I had read reviews of the Charvel that were pretty good for the money.

The finish on the Kramer actually looked a little nicer. I think it actually had a carved top on it but what turned me off about it was the humbucker was slanted and I just didn't like the look of it. So I wound up with the Charvel.
Still have it to this day...rarely play it but I still kept it.

I later got a Jackson Dinky, BC Rich Warlock, Schecter C-1 classic and last one is a Dean Razorback.

I am mostly playing the razorback and Schecter. The razorbacks neck is the best feeling neck on a guitar I have played. Just fits so well...it is a V shaped neck.

I play occasionally but playing so little, it is more frustrating than anything.

I have a takamine ef 341c that I basically stole from a guy on ebay 3 years ago...love that acoustic.

I also have a charvel model 4m...maple neck. I have a small marshall mini stack forgot the model number..but it is one of the ones from 87 or 88 still made in england...sounds great

The charvel is one of the japanese lines that they made that are good, but not like the san dimas charvels. I think it is an 86 or 87. It needs to be set up, the action is way too high so I havent played it in a while.

The first guitar I had my friend let me borrow for a year to learn was a takamine electric. It was a nice guitar to learn on, he put all emg pickups in it so it sounded good, even when I played it!!!!

I love some of the Elvis songs.

That is one I happen to love.

One of my faves is one that is not really one of his Huge hits...

I got a woman

I grew up listening to a lot of Elvis. I still remember my mother crying when we heard he passed away on the radio on a family trip in Canada.

I was forced to watch a lot of his cheesy movies growing up but the positive as a boy was that he had beautiful co-stars that put the Bond girls to shame. Juliet Prowse from G.I. Blues might have the greatest legs of all time.

Yes those movies were just terrible...but that was the Col. putting him in them.

However, as you said, some of them women were very nice looking.:D

Mine is an 1987 as well but the cheaper Model 2...crappy fake floyd and bad pickup but I always thought it had a very comfortable neck.

I will say part of the crappy fake floyd was what you brought up. I could never get the action as low as I wanted it.

I think I may see if someone can put a better floyd in it and upgrade the pickup though. I may even venture into doing a paint job on it sometime this summer. I have not painted a guitar before and If I mess the paint on this one up I would not be too upset.

Now as I mentioned the neck on the Dean I got recently...That V shape is the most comfortable neck I have played and I also can get the action lower than my jackson and other guitars. Just a very comfortable instrument to play.

The bad thing about it is it is not a sit back and relax in a chair with arms type of guitar lol.

Tesla...very under rated band back in the day IMO.

When rock started to go away with the Rap serge Tesla helped keep rock here..

Modern day Cowboy
Commin At you live
and Paradise are probably my favorites but I like them all

Wow. I find that absolutely incomprehensible. Out of morbid curiosity, what would your top 20 songs of all time include?

Well, I don't think I could come up with a top 20 really. Honestly I'm not all that into music to begin with. The only time I listen to music anymore is when my wife is in the car. That's all Christian Rock (at least mostly Rock). Stuff most people probably haven't heard of.

If I had a list it would have a few Metallica songs on it (One, Master of Puppets, and maybe a couple others), and maybe Guns N Roses "November Rain."

Outside of that I wouldn't even know where to begin on a list of my top songs. I don't care for the older stuff that much, even though a lot of it is much better than a lot of the crap that passes for music nowadays.

I have Taking Tiger Mountain and Another Green World and they are both excellent albums. Burning Airlines Give You So Much More, St. Elmo's Fire, I'll Come Running..some real classics there.

Warm Jets is definitely up there for me as well -- it was his first solo album -- on much of it he's really making fun of Brian Ferry -- he had just left Roxy Music following two excellent albums (Roxy Music and For your Pleasure).

3rd Uncle was how I got interested and why I first bought Tiger Mountain (back in 1986) -- Bauhaus does an outstanding cover of that tune.

My wife and I went to a Skynyrd concert while on our honeymoon. I love them.

My favorite song by them is not well known.

"The Ballad of Curtis Loew" which is about a kid collecting soda bottles for the deposits on them and giving the money to an old blues guitarist just to hear him play. To me, the lyrics are what love of music is all about. Especially at the end where he sings to Curtis after his death instead of about him.

The Ballad of Curtis Loew

Well I used to wake the mornin'
Before the rooster crowed
Searchin' for soda bottles
To get my self some dough
Brought em down to the corner
Down to the country store
Cash em in and give my money
To a man named Curtis Loew

Old Curt was a Black man
With white curly hair
When he had a fifth of wine
He did not have a care
He used to own and old dobro
Used to play across his knee
I'd give old Curt my money
He'd play all day for me

Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well I got your drinkin money
Tune up your dobro
People said he was useless
Them people all were fools
'Cuz Curtis Loew was the finest picker
To ever play the blues

He looked to be 60
And maybe I was 10
Momma used to whoop me
But I'd go see him again
I'd clap my hands,
Stomp my feet
Tryin' to keep in time
Well he'd play me a song or 2
Then take another drink of wine

Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well I got your drinkin' money
Tune up your dobro
People said he was useless
Them people all were fools
'Cuz Curtis Loew was the finest picker
To ever play the blues

On the day old Curtis died
Nobody came to pray
Old preacher said some words
And they chunked him in the clay
Well he lived a lifetime
Playin' the Black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life
That's all he had to lose

Play me a song Curtie Loew, Curtis Loew
I wish that you was here
So everyone would know
People said you were useless
Them people all were fools
'Cuz Curtis you're finest picker
To ever play the blues

If you are a Rock fan, you must own ELVIS PRESELY: THE COMPLETE SUN SESSIONS:

B000002W9S.01-A1ENAFVFVD7GP1._AA130_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

This is the Big Bang of rock & roll, the moments when Elvis Presley, guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black first twanged up their R&B and heated up their C&W, igniting an explosion that created the world we now inhabit. Rock & roll has never been as elemental, as jubilant or desperate, as the versions here of Arthur Crudup's "That's All Right" and Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon Of Kentucky." And just as significantly, on "I Love You Because" and "Blue Moon," The Sun Sessions include the beginnings of Elvis' earnest ballad style that would soon be nearly as influential as his creation of rockabilly
