You seem to be one of the only posters on this board that thinks "it didn't happen this way".

Jerry called Garrett a trainee and said we would benefit from "all of his in game mistakes" down the road.........................................................yea, it did happen like that.
Jerry said it was "unfair" that Garrett would not let Callahan call the offense the way he wanted to call it............................................................yea, it did happen like that.
Jerry said that Garrett was going to spend all his time of defense this year, even though he has never coached one down of defense..............yea, it did happen like that.

Now if you want to pretend this was all taken out of context, that is your prerogative. However, I think many more posters will agree with my assessment than yours.

Please. :) Let's not use the opinions of upset fans as the barometer for what did or did not happen. I've pulled the training quotes to put them in context the last time this became chum for a complaint thread. The quotes applied to Jason's time in Dallas, and were put in the context of all coaches learning on the job before going on to do really good things in the league. I shouldn't have to point that out every time you want to trot out your own negative interpretation of what Jerry said.

It's easy enough for you to support your context here in the age of the internet if you really care to. Otherwise, let's agree we find some basis for deciding who's right that relies on logic and a sound argument rather than on the hand-raising of a dozen disappointed teenagers on the internet.

Like I said, you can live in your fantasy world all you want.

However, I would think you would show a little more respect to the ones that don't share your fantasy interpretation. Calling other posters that happen to agree with my position over yours "disappointed teenagers" is you letting your emotions get the better of you.

I appreciate the permission to not share your intentional misrepresentations. That'll really come in handy if your opinion doesn't change in coming seasons.

And I didn't say every unhappy fan who agrees with you is a disappointed teenager. I'm simply commenting that some of them pretty obviously are. That's a function of how they communicate and not a comment on them being hopeful or hopeless about the current state of the Cowboys. It's not a callout by any stretch. Merely an observation.

"Jason Garrett’s growing power and influence over Jerry Jones"

I just find this hard to believe. Jerry goes out and calls Garrett a "trainee" to the media, he says that Garrett kept butting in last season on the offense and that was not fair to Callahan, and he says that Garrett will be spending his time with the defense this year and Linehan will have carte blanch over the play calling and offensive philosophy this year.

That doesn't sound like Garrett getting more power, that sounds like Jerry telling his trainee that the offense will be much better if he just disappears from that side of the ball (something he did not do with Callahan and that is what Jerry says was unfair).

Not sure how this equates to Garrett's growing power and influence over Jerry.

LOL @ your avatar!!! That is freakin' hilarious. Made my day, no doubt.

Good read on the state of things in Big D. Pretty good read if you want to read it all.

http://cowboyszone.com/2014/04/evolution-jerry-jones-garret-era.html

Article concludes with this:

An examination of the history of operations since the 2010 offseason reveals several distinct patterns and trends:

1. There has been a concerted effort to jettison aging players, overpriced players, players that do not fit Garrett’s RKoG model, and players that do not buy into the overall philosophy that Garrett has for his team.

2. The Cowboys drafting has improved.

3. Without sacrificing the level of talent, the roster has become significantly younger (from one of the oldest teams in 2010 to one of the youngest teams in 2013).

4. The frequency of terrible trades/signings has been drastically reduced, though some would argue that they have not been eliminated.

5. The tendency to overpay players out of loyalty or as payment for past performance has been curtailed.

6. Jerry Jones appears to listen to Garrett and company more when making decisions, and he is also ceding more and more control to Garrett. If the criticisms of Jerry Jones in 2010 were valid, then his recent track-record shows plenty of change and improvement.

I believe that there are signs of progress.

Has Jerry done a complete 180? No, but there are signs of progress.

Should Garrett get credit for all progress? No, but he is an influence in the right direction. IMO, Garrett pushes to do things the right way and is joined by Stephen Jones and probably others in the organization. I think Stephen Jones and the people that work for him on the salary cap issues have been in favor of being conservative for a long time. Garrett just adds 1 significant voice to their side.

I think the catastrophe with the Ratliff situation followed up by the drastic injury issues might have pushed Jerry over the edge and forced him to get on board with the Garrett/Stephen side of being conservative. My guess is that Garrett/Stephen were not in favor of the 2nd new contract that Jerry gave Ratliff a couple of years ago.

Since Garrett has been the Head Coach, they had been getting younger and shedding the big contracts.
Gone:
Roy (WR) Williams
Barber
Bigg
Gurode
Bradie James
Keith Brooking
Sensabaugh
Newman

Ware
Ratliff
Hatcher
Austin

The questionable moves during Garrett's tenure:
2nd new contract for Ratliff
Trade up for Claiborne
Signing Carr to a big contract
Romo's contract

IMO, I'll take those questionable decisions any day over:
Trading a 1st, 3rd and 7th (the 1st and 3rd were not enough, they needed a 7th).
Giving Roy Williams a new contract for 9M+ per year after the trade.
Trading two 1st for Joey Galloway
Giving Miles Austin a 9M per year contract when he probably would have received about half that much as a free agent.
Drafting Shante Carver in the 1st round.
Not drafting Randy Moss.
Drafting Ekuban in the 1st round.
Etc..

The only remaining players over 30 are Romo, Witten and the long snapper. I think Free is right at 30.

The salary cap situation is going to be better in 2015 than it has been in long time. The dead money will be at it's lowest in several years with an expected number of about 5.5M as compared to 30M just a couple of years ago.

Summary: Jerry is not going anywhere. It seems that Garrett is the best Head Coach for Jerry. A coach like Parcells causes Jerry to need to make a big splash to get attention (i.e signing TO, etc.). A coach like Wade puts up Zero resistance to anything that Jerry wants to do (i.e. trade for Roy Williams).

These sound like steps that should translate into more success. I'm excited to see the improved winning record and playoff victories next year.

Good post X. I also believe we have seen some progress, but the "Jerrry Sux" Club wont acknowledge it. What makes it hard for some to see, or accept, is that the PROCESS has been slow and the trainee HC factor make it seem pretty much a non existent.

Personally, I think Red _ should be gone after this year if we dont see significant improvement. I like the good things he's done, but it still comes down to wins, and 4 1/2 yrs will have been long enough to see if we have actually turned a corner. Jerry prob keeps Red no matter the outcome of the season, but at some point the bottom line has to factor in.
