The Foolishness of Big Contracts after Age 30

In the study after age 32, only 42% improved relative to the previous season. And from that point there is decline (for the majority of quarterbacks) every single season.

Let's remember that this is based on fantasy stats.

Ages 25, 27, 29, 30, and 31 also demonstrate a decline. These fantasy stats do not say what you think that they do. All that chart tells me is that most QBs don't improve very much.

It's also not as if there is a smooth curve demonstrating a maxima. It's up, down, up, down all over the place.

I really respect the responses you've posted in this thread, however, I hope you don't invest too much time into debating with this guy. He clearly has an agenda. This discussion should've been over after post # 37.

Some things are easy to quantify, some things are not. Extending a franchise QB in today's league is not something that is easy to quantify. The Alex Smith trade should show us all that. Teams with awful QB situations should also show us how lucky we are to have Romo (especially since we basically lucked into him in the first place).

Aside from the extreme exceptions, you cannot win in today's NFL without a franchise QB. We have one. Letting him walk or trading him for draft picks would be completely ********. The FO needs to focus around surrounding Romo with the best players so that this team has a chance to succeed before he really does decline. I liked the last 2 offseasons and if this one follows suit we could be in a position to make a run.

I am so tired of all of these "blow up the team" and "rebuild" threads. It's ridiculous.

I appreciate it, mang.

Yeah, I think I should stop. A jigsaw graph of fantasy stat changes is not very compelling. If it's not obvious to someone else at this point then there is not much else I can do.

I accept your resignation. Better luck next time.
