The Fowler offsides call. Was this a legal play?

Goes beyond this season. For much of McCarthy's tenure, this team has a bad habit of making dumb penalties. Last year was particularly egregious with penalties. You can't beat a good team doing dumb things like jumping offsides in that situation.

But I understand............. you struggle mightily with criticizing the Cowboys. You starting a thread somehow trying to justify Fowler's screw up on that play says it all.
Again you say this team and then you say it goes beyond this season. I wasn't trying to justify, I asked the question because it didn't look right to me when it happened, just like it didn't look right to me when they got screwed out of a first down or when the Eagles had linemen downfield on the RPO. I was just wrong on the offsides. Fowler was at fault. I do struggle with idiot fans that can't enjoy when they have a good team.

I saw the OL make twitch very subtle with his shoulder that's what Fowler jumped on and in slow motion everyone can see it but the refs didn't have slow motion,. the OL was sly and he got away with a penalty himself.

those calling Fowler names you can be called names as well

im thinking of many i cant say but for sure they arent nice. ..

He was off sides as the rules are written, but the rules suck as they are written.

IMHO, Unless the defender makes contact with an offensive player, they shouldn't be allowed to move AT ALL once set.
I don't even like all the pre snap head bobbing and arm pointing they get anyway with nowadays. And a OG can signal the C to snap the ball with a wave or tap? I think it's garbage.

I think Hendershot was the one in illegal motion drifting forward.

Thought I saw an Eagle LT draw one of our DEs offsides with a little head twitch. Then pat him on the head as a "Welcome to the NFL, Junior".

Eagles looked consistently smarter than us. So many dumb penalties. Diggs takes his helmet off for 15. Just a dumb dead ball foul.
Diggs' penalty actually saved us a point.

Completely awful play by Fowler. Stupid and selfish. Made me feel like Gregory was still on the team. That is the kind of play that explains Fowlers contracts over his career. People get sick of this kind of thing quickly no matter how talented you might be.

That TD run was totally on VanderEsch. He has his gap and then slides over to where he thinks the runner is going, creating the opening for Sanders.

You are forgetting that the OL knows the snap count so in honestly it is not truly fair when you have a QB can utilize hard counts and head movements and OL and motion guys can work in unison to fake a DL. If a DL does not make contact and is not even close to making contact, he should be allowed to get back just like it was forever. They are at a disadvantage to begin with. This is just another example of changing a rule that didn’t need fixing. OL know the snap count and are not allowed to move until the ball is snapped. Without contact or significant threat of being run over, the OL should not be allowed to move.
Hard counts are part of the game
It’s no different than a cb acting like he’s blitzing then dropping in coverage
A vet like Fowler should know the situation
They weren’t snapping the ball and it was obvious
They were setting up the dline and had no intention of snapping the ball because they didn’t have to since the period was running out

The reason teams try to do things like that is because there are people like Fowler out there. Fowler is not the victim. He is the sickness.

I said in the past. That could mean 1 game, 2 games, 5 games, an entire previous season. Are you denying this team had serious issues with penalties last year under the same coaching staff?

Oh... wow.... the lineman snapped his head to the side, in order to draw Fowler offsides. False start on the offense.

Fowler was an idiot on that play plain and simple. Everyone knew what Philly was doing there is no way Fowler can be that jumpy in that situation.
I was yelling at my tv watch the ball dont jump. Then he jumps i swear the god i wanted to smash my remote. Threw out a few mfs. Coaches should be yelling the same thing i domt understand. This is like high school basics here

No question. What Fowler did should never happen and everyone should recognize when they are just trying to make them jump. I was talking more in general. It was a situation and a rule that was fine like it was for 100 years and didn’t need fixing. OL cannot move because they know the snap count and it would simulate the start of the play. That would be like a balk in baseball. DL could always jump offsides and get back before the snap. No harm no foul. They don’t know the snap count and as long as they didn’t make contact or weren’t unabated to the QB, no penalty and there were absolutely no issues. It didn’t need fixing at all. There is no reason an OL five feet away should be able to just stand up, point, and draw a penalty.

It was a full and abrupt head turn right at the planned time. He turned his head from looking at the ball to looking to his left (fully) right when Hurts did the hard count.
