Yes but this one borders on interference with the actual play. If there was ever a reason to enforce the rule this was it.

Borders is the key word here. He didn't interfere and it even looks to me that he was trying to get out of the way initially, moving up the sideline and out of Gallup's path to the sideline before he got excited and started celebrating. I don't know how often this rule is enforced, and the only time I've seen it enforced that I can think of is, like someone said earlier, when they get in the official's way. I remember it being called on us for that when one coach got excited jumped forward into the white and tripped an official (if my memory is correct).

I don't think MG ever saw him, as he was looking back for the ball.
Gallup seems to stop his feet and reach because he thinks he is closer to the sideline (while looking back at the ball). The proximity/action of the coach may have made him misjudge the sideline. You’ve still got to make that catch

I'm not saying Gallup shouldn't have caught it (he should), but that was a horrible pass. The replays I've seen don't really show it but the original live shot of it showed the ball fluttering all over the place and kind of knuckling almost a little. Again, should have had it, but not as easy of a catch as most are stating IMHO

I haven't seen the play but this is the most likely explanation. Rush normally nuzzles them gently between his hands and chest plate. They basically catch themselves. He saw this ball & had flashbacks.

(Ok, I added the last sentence just due to the contentious nature of the subject. Just kidding. Kinda.)

I saw the ball fluttering in real time, and I thought that was why he dropped it, until I saw the replay, and saw that he'd T-Rexxed it.

ARTICLE 5. MOVEMENT ON SIDELINES.

Lateral movement within the bench area must be behind the solid six-foot white border.
Clearly that should have been a penalty. In my opinion, Gallup caught that movement in his peripheral vision (even if he was unaware) and it startled him. I don't think the coach necessarily did it on purpose, but he affected the play and should have been penalized.

Looks like a Rams coach was clearly in the white line (safety area) area out of bounds.

Seem he was yelling at Gallup during the play

At the very least it was a distraction.

It that legal?

The ball was quacking all the way.

I noticed that too, but it's still on the receiver to maintain his focus

Yes, technically this should have been called a penalty. It is a flagrant violation of the rules. But I suspect if you watch games and look for this it happens quite a bit.

From the Rule Book:

ARTICLE 4. RESTRICTED AREAS
All team personnel must observe the zone restrictions applicable to the bench area and the border rimming the playing field. The only persons permitted within the solid six-foot white border (1-1) while play is in progress on the field are game officials. For reasons involving the safety of participating players whose actions may carry them out of bounds, officials’ unobstructed coverage of the game, and spectators’ sightlines to the field, the border rules must be observed by all coaches and players in the bench area. Violators are subject to penalty by the officials.

ARTICLE 5. MOVEMENT ON SIDELINES
Coaches and other non-participating team personnel (including uniformed players not in the game at the time) are prohibited from moving laterally along the sidelines any further than the points that are 18 yards from the middle of the bench area (i.e., 32-yard lines to left and right of bench areas when benches are placed on opposite sides of the field). Lateral movement within the bench area must be behind the solid six-foot white border.

Penalty: For illegal acts under Articles 1 through 6 above: Loss of 15 yards from team for whose supposed benefit foul was made. (Unsportsmanlike Conduct.)

I'm curious how often the coaches are on the white border. I don't pay much attention to it at games, but if they are regularly on it, then I can understand why the officials wouldn't throw a flag. However, this was the perfect opportunity to enforce the rule since the drop happened right in front of a coach who was violating it.
Lol all I know is we used to get told to get back 35 times a game at least

Expecting a call from the refs on that play is like expecting a stranger to give you the winning lotto ticket numbers. It ain't happening.
I believe I've only seen it called once in a 100 years and that was because they actually tripped the chain gang

Gallup was running down the field. The ball was thrown to the outside he changed his direction. And just missed the catch. That could’ve been a touchdown. Imagine Prescott made that through

No, during play no personnel are allowed on the white border lines and clearly this was missed by refs.
Please. Micah was getting mugged on seemingly ever pass rush , with the refs staring at it and they called , what 1 maybe two. You really think they would call something like that?!

Chris Simms said the same thing on his podcast.

I'm not interested in excuses.

The inconsistency from both Lamb and Gallup are serious concerns. They need to be better.
