The man gave his life to the NFL and it's players.

Is it really going to bother you to look at the patch all season?

Yeah, and that worthless scumbag is responsible for hundreds of NFL veterans living on the streets, under a bridge, broke as hell and disabled unable to make a living.

Gene is burning in hell right now, and he deserves it.

Brandon and Daboy4life lets try to talk about the patch on the jerseys. Come on guys.

Some of these comments are over the top.

I like the patch I don't think its to big I barely noticed it till I saw someone else complain about it.

The patch is huge, could have went with a helmet sticker for something smaller for a full season tribute. Yeah, Upshaw sure might have been a swell guy, but he wasn't exactly working on a voluntary basis, and he didn't really have to worry about his pension.

I agree that the patch could have been smaller.

Hundreds of veterans huh? Where is the list of all their names? So you work at the Players Association and you know the inside details of what went on right?

You have all the facts, lol.

Does the NFL need to create a better solution pertaining to making sure the retiring players have proper benefits in the future?

Of course and the Players Union has to work with them to implement this plan.

Do some of the players need to stop throwing around the money they make now so they have some put away for the future?

Of course and the NFL and the Players Union over the past few years has been implementing plans during the offseason to educate these guys on how to do just that.

Was Gene Upshaw wrong on some of his decisions? Yes, but you can't say he wasn't good for the Players Union overall. I can say that based on the simple fact that the man was in office for 25 years.

Given the way he ran a union, not sure I would want to wear a patch honouring him at all.

I don't think Pat Tillman contributions are as highly regard as Gene Upshaw but hey what do I know.....

WOW... i cant believe you even said that.........because dying for your country has nothing on negotiating player rights.....

I think he was being sarcastic but I think it is fair to say that Upshaw's contribution to the NFL, even if misguided, were more than Tillman's. Face it, Tillman was a nobody until he left the NFL to join the army and was killed by friendly fire.

I can't believe a patch is an issue.

Ok. Who hates the oval airholes in the newer helmets?

Anyone still pissed that Romo wears his hat backwards?

Still comes down to the rich and powerful get "honored" more than the little guy. Geesh, even in death, social status matters.

I read he made like 6.5 million to be the president of the P.U. Let me see now, get paid a king's ransom as a player and president of PU then get honored more than soldiers dying for the country. :bang2:

Also, I vote too large of an eye sore regardless for whom especially on our whites :D

The patch should be on the jerseys the first week, then for the rest of the season just have a sticker on the back of the helmets.

Aren't they suppose to have the patch painted on the field aswell?

Yes, it is. I think they said last night that it was only on the field for week 1. I could be wrong though, about how long it will be left on the field.

Hopefully not more than the first week.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for honoring Gene, but I think they should have put a sticker on the helmet like they did when Pete Rozell past away. It was a simple, small sticker that ust said "Pete" but to me it spoke volumes.
Just my opinion:)
