They wore that "21" on their helmets all year for Sean Taylor. Taylor did not have near the impact on the league that Upshaw had. In fact up until about a year before his death he had been a punk and an embarrassment to the league. If he deserved a patch on the helmet for an entire year then Upshaw CERTAINLY deserves the patch on the Jersey for the year.

I don't think because you meant more to the league you should get a gigantic patch on everyones jersey for an entire year.

He should be honored like everyone else.

If you want to have the field logo thats fine too.

But the field logo and everyone wearing a gigantic black patch for an entire season is over the top.

I think everyone should wear black or white jerseys......everyone should wear Gene's number......on the back of every uniform it should say Upshaw......every endzone should be black with Upshaw in white....Every midfield should be a picture of Gene.....

Now this is how you pay tribute:laugh2:

I like it because it gives those people that like to piss and moan about every little inconsequential thing in life something to whine about.

Im not much of a complainer. Especially when it concerns something honoring someones death.

Thats how bad that patch is.

I dont know I am just going on what I have heard over the years. Based on contributions to the NFL. Its no even close with Upshaw and Tillman.

Tilman was more about country and Upshaw more about the NFL.

Actually makes perfect sense to me and I would guess that is their reasoning.

Quit whinning about a little patch on a jersey. Is it going to hurt your eyes or something. If you don't want it on the jerseys take it off whinners

I would if I could. I would put it on the back of the helmets.

The thing that bugs me most about the patch is that the NFL probably paid an ad agency an obscene amount of money to "design" it.

I coulda come up with some just as ugly...

No question about it.

Unbelievable.

Its more the principle.

So much for a guy who died of natural causes? Is a patch going to bring him back?

Whats next, postpone the games?

Football is what a lot of people look forward to all week to forget all that stuff

Why not a cancer ribbon in the same spot?

How about pink helmets for breast cancer?

Gene Upshaw would probably be embarassed by it.

This is their way of honoring the guy.

So should NHL rinks take out their ribbon in the ice for the 9/11 victims?

The people in this thread complaining about this is funny. Your logic and reasons to why its bad is funny.

I'm glad the patches are no longer on the jerseys. They are now on the back of the helmets. Much more classy.

For all the people who called me crazy I guess your in the minority.

Im shocked the NFL didn't stick to their guns but it was just so bad.

I am not starting an argument about what you said. However, I suspect those of us who didn't care one way or the other about it didn't email the league offices about how ugly it was. I suspect the ones who hated did.
