Seriously, a lot of also-rans have gone to the Super Bowl.
Going to the Super Bowl and losing is not that much a badge of honor.
But if you are comparing SB appearances, then clearly you and Rivera win on that point. :D
And if we include in that same resume, which DC's defense beat the Colts during the regular season, then I'd have to say . . . Zim. ;)

The truth is, Rivera and da Bears D did a lot of things right. They did give up 2 TDs, one of those was on a complete mental collapse by the safety. They also held the Colts to FG tries 4 times. Anytime you have to settle for 3 and then kick it to D. Hester, thats a win for the D.

Mike Zimmer didn't beat the Colts by himself. True, the Cowboys only gave up 14 points, but the Colts were only a couple of plays away from 28 probably, and the Cowboys beat the Colts with offense in the last 10 minutes, something da Bears couldn't do.

this stuff is getting silly. Rivera isnt subpar now after ONE GAME!!!

its funny how some are throwing out a great defense over the course of a whole season over one game...in which it really wasnt even the defense that lost them that game but a totally inept offense
Well, I guess we thne need to hire Zimmer as HC,right? After all, he beat the Colts, which is now the new litmus test on anyone's hireability. Or perhaps we should interview Houston's defensive coordinator?;)

You mean because they didn't have Bob Sanders when we played them? Other than that, yes it was the same team.

We pretty much copied the Patriots' gameplan when we played the Colts. It wasn't as if we came up with this all new way to beat the Colts when we played them.

I guess the difference between the Colts Defense when we played them and the rest of the regular season....vs the Colts Defense since the playoffs started has nothing to do with the games outcome...nor does the terrible play, possibly the worst starting QB in SB history in Grossman, has nothing to do with the game either.

Not saying the Bears defense looked good...but let's not forget some of the other factors in the game as well.

The Colts' defense played pretty well in Dallas. It was one of their best regular season performances. They created early turnovers and stuffed the run in the first half. Dallas had 39 yards on 13 carries(3.0 avg) in that first half. Even though Indy finally got worn down, they still allowed an average of only 3.3 yards per rush for the entire game. They also only gave up 225 net passing yards and 14 points to the Dallas offense.

The Colts defense didn't struggle in the Cowboys game like they did the rest of the regular season. Their performance in that game looked more like their playoff defense than the regular season version. The return of Sanders helped them play even better than when they faced Dallas.

The Cowboys defense was the big difference in that regular season match up. They pressured Manning, created critical turnovers and didn't give up the really big scoring plays that Indy has a knack for making.

The key stat that tells the story: The bears only managed to 3 and out the Colts TWICE that game. And one of those was with a minute to go when the COlts were just running out the clock.

That's not correct. The Colts went three-and-out twice just in the first quarter. They also went 1-and-out in the first quarter. They had four more possessions when they gained only one first down, plus three possessions when they gained just two first downs. On those 10 possessions, they totaled 177 yards and three points -- even though they started FIVE of those possessions inside Chicago's territory.

The Colts averaged 9.75 offensive possessions per game this season. They had a whopping 14 possessions against Chicago, mostly because the Bears' offense was incredibly inept (their average possession lasted only 1 minute, 40 seconds -- a full minute less than the NFL average). The Colts' offense also started with incredible field position almost all game. Given the Colts starting field position on 14 possessions, an average NFL offense against an average NFL defense would have scored 28.5 offensive points. The Colts scored only 22, which means the Bears' defense actually performed better than the Colts' offense when it came to scoring/stopping scoring.

Darn, they looked the same. A feller by the name of Manning even quarterbacked them! And someone by the name of Dungy was the coach.
Are you sure?????

what ZIMMER did?

I thought Parcells was running the defense this past season? Isn't that why Zimm wanted out? Cuz Parcells was calling all the shots?

As to who ran the defense. If one says Parcells' defense, then some lemming comes out of the woodwork to say it was Zim's. Never a winning proposition. :D

If the Bears had our offense (or just our QB) they win the game last night.

Not sure with our offense, because, truthfully, the Bears have been more consistent on offense all year than the Cowboys. But da barse would have been in better shape with Romo than with that Grossman feller, yes.

Hell, the bears might of won that game with Drew Bledsoe at QB.

It changes depending upon what foolish point someone wants to make.

Or they may have done worse.

It's possible, but it would be very difficult to outperform Rex Grossman in the "Crappy QB play" department.
