The gloss is off of Rivera; he couldn't do what Zimmer did

It's possible, but it would be very difficult to outperform Rex Grossman in the "Crappy QB play" department.

If anyone can, Drew can. Vinny, too. Big Ben did last year. Plenty of crappy QBs out there still. Even Rex can actually play worse than he did last night, which was pretty bad. Could not even take a snap. Looked rookie Quincyesque. :lmao:

True. Rex was horrible last night, but he is capable of oh so much worse. The bears are actually lucky he wasn't himself last night. :D

Rivera couldn't do what Zimmer did?

Funny how Zimmer gets credit for a good game but Parcells was at fault in the minds of many for the bad games.

The truth is, the Bears did a solid job. They didn't let Manning beat them with huge plays. They had every opportunity to win that game until their offense gave it away.

And for the record, neither Bill or Zimmer are as bad as folks made them out to be. I was as ready for Zimmer to leave as anyone, but part of playing the Cover 2 is to protect yourself from getting beat by the big play. For the most part, it is a bend-don't-break defense!

My problem with Dallas' defense this season were the painful times when the team was supposed to be not breaking, and they broke anyway. I don't think you can blame coordinators for everything though. Your players have to make plays.

Didn't the Bears' defense also struggle the last three or four games of the season (after they lost Tommie Harris)?

I'm not really sold one way or the other on Rivera, but I do question whether he is as good as so many think or whether it is more perception because he's a "hot" name right now.

Is the Bears' defensive success this year a product of the talent they've drafted more so than scheme? Is the Bears' scheme a product of the head coach or Rivera?

What tangible evidence do we have that he can elevate our defense as the coordinator or run a team as the head coach?

It changes depending upon what foolish point someone wants to make.

To make that statement and be an arbiter of sorts. Or out of sorts.

This is crazy.

Another thread doubting Rivera...

The Bears let up 22 points to the Colts offense who had the ball for 38 minutes.

If the Bears offense didnt cough the ball up every other drive the defense wouldnt have to deal with 99% of the pressure.

All the offese had to do was take care of the ball and they might just win that game.
