The goal should be to win a SB, not responsible cap management

Its all about taking calculated risks.

The time to go "all in" was during our 3 straight 12 win seasons.

Its late in the game now, and I still hope we are aggressive but its more desperate than smart at this point. Imo

The argument to make is we still have a top 5 offense and bringing the defense up to par should net real results. I think Jerry feels like this is his last push as he and his qb age out.
You hit that right on the head the fact we didn't go all in during those 12 win seasons shows you right there where Jerry's priorities are.

He just wouldn't shoot the works and get us over the top and that was definitely the time.

You could look at those teams and watch them beat up on bad teams with that perfect storm of a defense that needed you to get a lead and couldn't stop the run and know that you were going to fail miserably in the playoffs.

We only get aggressive enough to stay relevant and keep the fan base engaged.

Jerry has no desperation in his life he has everything he could possibly want.

The Dallas Cowboys provide him every possible thing he needs.

He has his Super bowl trophies
He has generational wealth
He works with his family
He owns the most valuable team in all of sports.
He gets his gambling fix through the draft.
He gets celebrity status like no other owner
He gets to pass his legacy down to his family.

The only thing the Dallas Cowboys can't provide him is more time

Bob, I agree completely.

In the comments I copied above, there’s something implied but unstated, so I’ll say it now.

Doing those things are difficult and require a highly skilled and proficient front office that works together in an effort to be the best and compete every day.

Our front office isn’t highly skilled, isn’t effective at working together. It prioritizes personal comfort and financial success over building a champion.

I think it’s now obvious that Jerry and his entire organization don’t know how to do it. The only success he’s ever had was when Jimmy handled all of the coaching and personnel decisions.

Since then it’s been financial success and mediocrity.

Jerry just has no idea how to win and at this point, even in this “brand new” approach, it’s the same business as usual decision-making but it’s dressed up with the latest “this time it’s different” costume.

If he wasn’t a boat anchor around my team’s neck, I’d feel kinda bad for him because he’s clueless and has no one in his life that can call him on it.
Jerry has a plan on how to win and he does it every year it's just his game and priorities are different than ours probably because he is a billionaire and aspires to different things than we do.
The rest of the owners use their team to win Super bowls Jerry uses his to make money and he's very successful at it he has a plan he has ideas and he implements them to satisfy himself and his family

Every time Stephen Jones opens his entitled jaws and talks about being “financially responsible” I can’t help but laugh to avoid screaming with frustration.

If being “financially responsible” is the goal for this front office, congratulations.

But.. If winning SBs is the goal then start taking notes from the rams and eagles who have won 3 SBs between them in this last decade. And they’ve spent a ton of cap space, been in “cap hell” occasionally, completely retooled their rosters, and even had multiple QBs lead those teams.

If winning SBs is the real goal here, we don’t need to worry about “financially responsibility”. We need to start acquiring some major talent upgrades NOW. Not gradually. NOW. If being in a comfortable cap situation every year is the goal, then goodbye to contending - ever again.

And if we end up having a bad cap space issue for a couple years - good! That means we tried. That also would mean we get some better draft picks at the bottom of the league to reload.

Stop being careful and go for it.
What's Steven really means when he's talking about financial responsibility .

We are not spending my inheritance on accumulating more of those silver trophies that we already have a cabinet full of.

I mean really what do you think you're going to have more fun with Jerry's yacht or another one of them silver trophies and most people in this day and age don't even know who Vince Lombardi is LOL.

I have yet to see any signs that a super bowl is their goal.

Now, Stephanie was right that the cap was badly mismanaged when he took over. However, what he didn't add into the equation was needing a GM w/ excellent player evaluation skills. As opposed to what we have where those evaluation skills are nonexistent.

I'll boil it down Jerry's priorities and goals.

WORK WITH FAMILY

CREATE GENERATIONAL WEALTH

CONTINUE TO BE THE MOST VALUABLE TEAM IN SPORTS This is Jerry's Super bowl and has given him bragging rights for the last 10 years.

BY PRACTICING FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Jerry wins his Super bowl every year.

Fans priority and goals win a Super bowl

Acquire trophy with Packers coaches name on it have bragging rates for a year.

This requires actually shooting The works going all in being financially extravagant and getting whatever talent is needed to get you to that end goal of the silver trophy.
And on top of that being lucky which we are not.

You have to spend serious money just to compete in that game and there's still no guarantee.

Jerry has proven that it is much more financially beneficial to stay relevant hang around the rim and dangle the carrot in front of the fans while reaching his goal.

He's a billionaire he serves himself and his family our goal means absolutely nothing to him no matter what he says
What I want to know is what in hades are the posters thinking who are still proclaiming that Jerry wants to win? Schoonmaker would never have been a Cowboy(not to mention Mazi and Kelvin) if Jerry wanted to win. You don't take players like that high in the draft if you want to win.

There’s been plenty of talk about how they are finally going to open the wallet, but it’s not as simple as doing only that….they also must make the right decisions. Spending money doesn’t guarantee that it’ll work out. I’m.not so confident there.

The next couple of years are crucial. Other than the QB and cap situation, and having recently traded premium picks for players, Parker isn’t going to be here very long.

Either he fails, or fixes this mess and has a HC job within two years.

If these current coaches fail, the next move is a total rebuild, not still trying to patch around Dak for year fourteen with still not as much as a divisional playoff win.

Yes, NOW is the time. It’s so obvious even the two blind idiots can see it.
Yeah, a simple perusal of their big contracts shows you unequivocally that they are completely inept at figuring out who to pay.

And don't forget, we just paid a backup OL 6 mil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice.

It will be several years from now that we will have a better offense than we have TODAY. If the window is indeed "cracked open", the time to fight or flight is NOW. Poop or get off the pot.

It's not "your" team though, it's "his" and he......Will........do......whatever.......he..............wants.

I will continue the boat themed analogy - sadly us fans are all in this boat together drifting aimlessly until something happens to the captain.
Be careful what you wish for because when something happens to the captain the first mate could be a lot worse it's like a miserly version of Gilligan.

Long story short from everything I can see Steven is in no way wasting his inheritance on compiling more silver trophies.

He will use the Cowboys the same way his father did to make money except I don't think he will be nearly as good at pulling the wool over the eyes of the fan base and gaslighting them into believing there is hope

True, but the bigger problem by far is the extreme ineptitude of player evaluations. If Stephanie truly hires a competent GM as he has said he will, then he will be a thousand times better owner than Jerry.

We have to hedge on the fact he cant or hasnt won without Jimmy.

That's the final piece he needs to show the world. We are actually banking on his ego, in our favor this time.

Thank you.

We have unrealistic and ignorant fans that want to not only win the Super Bowl, but also the Salary Cap Championship, only sign players that are < 25 years old, expect their backup QB to be Joe Montana, et cetera.

I don't think you're giving Jerry credit for what he's good at evaluating.

Jerry's player evaluation is different than ours he wants guys that have his same thought process and surrounds himself with them.

He Wants money makers entrepreneurs marketers. He wants business decision makers that won't chastise him for not going all in and not trying to win a Super bowl guys that are just satisfied with collecting their big paycheck but are talented enough to keep the team relevant and fan base engaged.

Jerry evaluates players on their ability to help him generate wealth yes they have to be talented football players but they also have to have his mind set and understand what he's trying to do and that is generate wealth not win a Super bowl and they have to be satisfied with that and not make waves.

I mean does it get any more evident than Demarcus Lawrence saying that he couldn't win a Super bowl in Dallas and going to Seattle to win one.

I was in denial for a really long time but once you get past it you realize that Jerry is really very good at what he does it's just the total opposite of what we want him to do.

Seems like they're happy to pay guys that are athletic enough to keep the team relevant but are not going to squawk and make waves about not winning a Super bowl.

They seem to like guys that are just happy to collect the check and keep their mouth shut

Agreed. Plus, we had real, proven coaches in the building at the time. I know not everyone liked Big Mac and/or Quinn, but they had legitimate success in this league and plenty of skins on the wall. Now we’re rolling forward with very unproven leadership. Look, I like Schotty, he seems like a genuinely good guy, but is he the one to lead this franchise to the promised land? Time will tell….but I’d be surprised.

Possibly, but not w/o like 7 new players on the D.
