Sometimes an offensive coordinator has to realize that his job isn't just scoring points. It's also about managing field position, time, and down and distance.

The Giants only had 1 timeout left(according to the gamebook NY used their second with 9:53 left in the 2nd qtr). With less than 2 minutes to go in the half there was no way they could prevent Dallas from running out the clock if we just ran the ball three times.

Those points, needlessly and foolishly given to the Giants, were the difference in the game.

:fact: :hammer:

If we ran the ball three times and they used their timeout, we still would have had to punt from inside our own 20 if we didn't pick up a first down. (There would have been 10 seconds or so left in the half.)

Personally, when you're ahead by only one point and you have to kickoff to start the second half, I'd rather not just run out the clock when I have a chance to score before halftime. In a game like that, a possession is far too valuable to just waste it on purpose.

Garretts offense scored more than enough points to win the game.

If only the offense hadn't also given up enough points to lose it.

My biggest complaint with Garrett is he has no feel for what is working. Why did he abandon the run at times when it was working over and over? Keep feeding the 3 headed monster. He also needs to get them involved in the passing game more, Romo needs check downs to keep him inline.

Again people, Garrett doesnt tell Romo where to throw the ball. Just like any team plays have designs on where the ball SHOULD go (ie, primary and secondary receivers) but ultimately the person playing QB has to make those decisions. Checkdown routes are there. Romo just chooses not to look at them sometimes.

Im not saying he tells him where to go with the ball. What I am saying is when you have 3 WRs out on routes and all are 15 yards plus down field bad things tend to happen as Romo will not eat the ball. You could see on the replay of his last pick, all his options were way down field, Romo rolls out and forces a pass. Garrett needs to provide Romo with a check down option on those plays.

Obviously Romo is the biggest problem he has to learn to chuck the ball out of bounds and move on, but he doesnt seem capable of doing that.

Even if we assume Dallas doesn't get a 1st down, giving the Giants the ball around midfield with approx 10 seconds and no timeouts is clearly preferable to what actually transpired.

I would contend that in a close game "wasting a possession" is infinitely better than giving the Giants an extra possession.

Given the fact that Dallas has consistently put up points in the two minutes offense the last few years, I have no problem with them trying to do so right before the half.

Romo........You have GOT to stop these damn turnovers. We will go nowhere until you do.

RW11......you are a complete waste of space

Wade......the only reason you are still employed is because you can coach defense. If you can't do that anymore, you might as well sell hot dogs in section 436. 2 games, 0 sacks, 0 turnovers.

Hamlin.....Good Lord you stink.

Ding Ding Ding.... we have a winner...

If Romo had been "on", maybe. Romo wasn't even close to being "on".

Asking a struggling qb to throw in that situation just isn't smart football.

Geez, get over this stuff. Romo isnt some scrub or a rookie, the guys been in two probowls. As others have mentioned we seem to run the two minute offense exceptionally well, and the Giants were getting the ball to start the 2nd half.

Quit making excuses for the guy. It wasnt the play calling, it wasnt the video board, it wasnt the weather. He played horribly and blew the game, period.

Awful hard to blame Garrett people. You need balance, the QB just blew it, period.

The Giants were missing two DT's and then Tuck got hurt. They were missing 2 of their top 3 CB's and both safeties were playing hurt. You have to go after that some.

The OL was pretty damn good. The run game was good. I saw people open on pass plays. The problem was the guy throwing the ball, nothing else.

No arguments from me. The OL played a great game, ditto for our RBs. In my opinion our D and Romo better get their acts together or it is going to be a long season.

I see an undisciplined team all the way around......guys fumbling, committing penalties, failing to apply pressure defensively and throwing easy interceptions.

This isn't Cowboys Football, even with Parcells it didn't garner the kind of respect we once had with the class of Landry or Johnson because Jerry wouldn't get his credit finger out of the grandure pie.

Since a real Coach like Bill Cohwer would never be given complete controll many rationalize that real Dallas Cowboys Football will never return.

Thing is, going forward, what do you do if you are Jason Garrett? The situation is what it is, Romo's not going anywhere. All that crap about his bad interception against SF in the preseason leading to a change in the way he plays was just wishful thinking.

Given that set of circumstances, it is not acceptable to me to just lay it at Romo's feet. The guy blows up for horrific games at times. It is a given, and it is not going to change.

Now, Garrett has to find a way to win within that constraint. I think he can do it.

I am not absolving Romo of the responsibility for making mistakes, but too many of us fans seem willing to give up the season because Romo is blatantly flawed, but that doesn't stop other teams with even more flawed QB's (see Joe Flacco).

Great post. great post. I think the team can win with Romo, but the coaches have to help him out.

Someone said in another thread that Romo threw 19 passes in the 1st half. IMO, that is entirely too many.

This team needs an identity, and with the amount of money paid to the o-line, and three good rb's, I think it should be as a hard-nosed, smash mouth, run it down your throat offense.

He continually kept putting the ball and the game into the hands of his signal caller who was struggling mightily when he shouldn't have.

He had a trio of backs that were dominating the game yet he stopped feeding it to them during multiple key moments. Three of those moments resulted in turnovers which lost the game.

Again only one person ever stopped the Cowboy running attack tonight and his name was Jason Garrett.

I didnt mind letting Tony do his thing. Just not that thing.
