There was a time when Zack was the best player on the team. I couldn't really say that has been the case for several years now. Right now, it would seem to be Micah.
dude we have had a lot of people on the roster who had more physical talent than Zach over the years. Means NOTHING.
Micah has a great start but he has a LOT OF WOOD TO CHOP to make it to the HOF where Zach ALREADY has a spot waiting for him.

You clearly have not heard Jerry say several times that he regretted that pick.
He may have said that then. He isn't saying it now. It's irrelevant at this point. Black marks in drafts come from making bad draft picks, not from considering guys that would have been a bad pick but choosing instead a guy that proved to be a great pick.

It comes with the position he plays and his style of play. He's a guard. It's not a glamor position. Typically you know a guard is playing well because his name is not being called out. There are rare exceptions -- guys like Larry Allen -- who buck the trend because of how utterly they dominate their opponent physically. Zack isn't that guy. He's steady Eddy. Which is good enough at that position to carve out a legacy as an all-time great. But it also means that you'll go largely unnoticed and under-appreciated.
They probably get more noticed in the run game than the passing game, and since our running game hasn't been at the top for a while, his name isn't spoken as often.

Considering Jerry let others talk him out of drafting Manziel, and they didn't draft Manziel, I don't see how that is an ongoing black mark. No doubt teams every year have disagreements on players, but what matters is that the process worked where they passed on the player that ended up a bust and went with the better choice. The black mark is when they pass on the better player and take the one that turns out to be a bust
This is something that gets far too much attention.

Sometimes there are players that are so good, we either take them for granted or even forget just HOW great they are. An offensive lineman like Zack Martin is a good example of this.

Just look at Zack Martin’s accomplishments since he arrived in Dallas in 2014:
  • Five time First Team ALL PRO- 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021
  • Seven time Pro bowler
  • Get this- He has more pro bowl appearances in his career (7) than holding penalties!
  • In his entire career, he has FIVE holding penalties.
  • He has been very durable- did not miss a game to injury until 2020.
  • In his 8 NFL seasons, he’s only allowed 12 sacks!
  • In six career playoff games, he has never allowed a sack.
So the next time any of us wonder, “Who is the BEST player on this team?” Zack Martin is the answer. This guy is headed to Canton, Ohio.

Absolute stud from game 1 of his career. If you are drafting a guard that high you expect them to be great. I think Martin even exceeded those expectations.

And the GM wanted to take "Johnny Football", instead. Thankfully, no one in the room agreed with him and he gave in, grudgingly.

It's a shame Martin hasn't been part of much playoff success, but he wouldn't be the first HOF lineman in that regard. He can only do his job, and he does it very well.

Even before getting to Dallas he was the MVP of his bowl game.

As a left tackle. Yeah, happens all the time. (Sarcasm extreme)

And then as a rookie he not only was the best guard in the NFL but finished 2nd as OROY in 2014. I didn't remember this either but when ya Google him, sure enough, there it is.

Again, 2nd in voting to offensive rookie of the year...

As a right guard. Happens ALL the time. (sarcasm extreme)

Hopefully this new linebacker kid outta Penn State continues to follow Zacks path as he has begun his career doing just that.

I commented based on Bob's question "Who is the BEST player on this team?". At this time, Micah appears to be the most talented and best player on this team. Never said anything about Micah having a HOF career or comparing the two players in any other way than who is best right now.

I don't actually see Zack as a HOF'er just yet. I don't view his recent years as dominant. Very good. Better than average for sure but not dominant. He started off last year in a very dominant fashion but didn't sustain it thru the year. As Deion said, it shouldn't be the hall of very good.

He lamented in public about missing out on Manziel. You know this. So has the process ultimately been failing for 27 years?
