The Herd: Trevor Lawrence Ceiling is Troy Aikman

I think saying that any players floor, is to be on Andrew Lucks level, is pretty crazy. Andrew luck was a great QB. He just got injured and was never the same after that.

Meanwhile, any player in the draft can bust. Any player.
We get to this time every year where these guys make these odd claims about rookies......knowing damn well that the majority of these 1st round picks will be busts. Pitts is Calvin Johnson and now Lawrence is at worst Andrew Luck and at best Aikman.....just wow.

So Trevor Lawrence can be a good QB who can win Super Bowls if he has the best RB in the game, the best OL in the game, a top 2 or 3 receiver and the #1 defense in the game? That's going out on a limb .. There has been a couple hundred guys with the physical tools to win championships with the hand that Troy was dealt. But the list of guys with the physical and mental toughness and mental acuity to get it done is quite a bit shorter. I'm not sure Lawrence belongs on that list. We shall see.

We’ve come to expect a lot of ignorance from you but this is a new low, even for a Dak groupie

If your hero can even win 1 SB you will never stop crowing but will try to poop on a guy who won 3?

ignorance at its finest

:facepalm::facepalm:

There's a lot of guys who didn't with similar hands dealt but yes, that is how I read it.

There's no shame in having Troy Aikman as Lawrence's ceiling, if that's actually true. That's a high ceiling in most anyone's book. Nevertheless, our chances of drafting him are almost nil. That shouldn't really concern any of us. We'll have too many other concerns to consider.

So the Low End comparison is Luck (1 CBA contract ago) and High End is Troy (3 CBA contract ago)

I just hope Sunshine can dance:oldcouple:

I have a controversial opinion but to me I would almost flip that for low and high. Emmitt was that offense, and Irvin was the second best player. Aikman was a very good QB, but at no point did I think he was one of the very very best in football. Andrew Luck was in that very best in football talk. He could take a team of nothing and win 8-9 games and then when that team doesnt have him they win 2 games.

If Troy was drafted by the Cardinals, does he still make the hall of fame?

floor is Aaron Rogers. Ceiling is never seen before QB play awesomeness that makes Mahomes quiver.

With the JAX Jags combo of Meyer and Lawrence...get ready for the league to showcase them in one SNF and one MNF game; add to that the mandatory TNF contest..they will get at least two nationally Sunday late afternoon game telecasts - vs. NFC West, their own division, or the Bills \ Colts.

Never mind he hasn't played one snap yet, he hasn't been drafted yet, and ole Cowturd has already figured out what his career will look like? Personally I will wait till the Parcels 3 year rule goes in effect.

Yeah the cult slinging mud at Troy is pretty mind boggling. They might wanna aim a little lower. The current QB isn't even Danny White yet.

the draft is a beast all its own man. It’s damn near a national holiday for football fans.

it’s a lot of fun. I freaking love the draft. But we often lose sight of the fact that like half the players taken won’t accomplish squat in the league.

It’s interesting because the Rams have almost bucked conventional wisdom and said screw the draft. We will keep trading picks for known quantities. They’ve been one of the better teams in the league the last few years. Despite their failure to get over the top (yet).

If the Rams win a Super Bowl. I could see other franchises trying to mimic their way of roster building.

It's not at all. Only point i was making is , its not as easy with the cap to do that again or we would be working on Super Bowl #10 by now. Jerry has plenty.
Jerry said as much in Dak's presser, too. Something to the effect that without the salary cap we all know who would be spending the most to win.

My point was that as with most of these proclamations, acting as if things occur in a vacuum is foolhardy. I have no doubt that had he been asked to sling it as much as other QBs were slingin it in the league during his time Troy could have put up fabulous numbers.. I just don't think he would have won as many games doing so. What made Troy special and successful was his willingness and ability to subjugate his own numbers and goals for the good of the team. Troy COULD light a team up if they committed too many resources to stopping Emmitt, but frankly for the first 5 years of Emmitt's career very few teams were able to force him to do so. Unfortunately by the time Emmitt and the line started to get old and we needed Troy to carry us Troy's body was also starting to break down. Anybody looking at Lawrence's physical tools for comparison is looking in the wrong place. They need to be looking under the the hood. We won't know if he has the same stuff between the ears as Troy until he plays some NFL games, gets knocked on his keester 20 times in a game and throws 4 picks while being blown out 48-3. That's when we'll find out if Trevor Lawrence is Troy Aikman or Jeff George. You'll see it in his eyes.. How he competes.. how he comes back from being beaten up .. How he leads and encourages the same linemen who are letting him get beat to hell.. all of that. There's no way of knowing it to this point because he never endured any of that in college and I seriously doubt he ever did in high school either.

Jerry is kinda talkin out both sides of his mouth here because as some of you might remember Jerry was one of the driving forces BEHIND the salary cap. He could see the escalating bidding war between himself and Eddie D. was getting out of control and the league wasn't yet healthy enough to withstand such a thing. Without the cap the Cowboys and 49ers would have simply accumulated all the great players and traded off winning the Super Bowl for a decade ... Jerry knew that wasn't good for the league.. but he probably also knew it wasn't good for him short term either because remember up to that point he had not successfully fought the league for all the side advertising dollars he would later get.

I'm sure you're right on every account. But I bet he'd like a blank check for just a year or three.

Those that discount Aikman’s talent are borderline braindead. He had a very strong arm, was one of the most accurate to ever play, and was a great leader. Just stop. You’re making fools out of yourself.
